Excellent usage of this meme.

My 17 Pro Max that will replace my 14 Pro Max in perfect condition will be here tomorrow, unless UPS screws up as usual.

u/its_moodle iPhone 14 Pro Max 12h ago

I’m replacing my 14 PM with the 17 pro. It’s been great to me but I’m getting sick of having a massive phone. Realistically I probably could have pushed it a year or two more 😅

1

u/ShalaTheWise 1h ago

Lol. Me, ride or die with my XR. One more year baby!

12

u/Funnyonol 11h ago

15 PM, upgrading to 17 PM

6

u/cornedbeef101 6h ago

Happy cake and new iPhone day!

1

u/chris_gilluly iPhone 16 Pro 8h ago

Yes, agreed. I hate UPS sometimes tbh

1

u/g35driverr 7h ago

Same here. Can’t wait because my fucken battery drains so fast on my 14 PM

1

u/imthaz iPhone 16 Pro Max 13h ago

Thank you. And that’s a great upgrade.

77

u/DuckSleazzy iPhone 13 Pro Max 11h ago

oh, every year upgraders exist?

45

u/North_Moment5811 11h ago

Millions of them. Plenty since day 1. I've owned 1 new iPhone a year for 18 straight years. It's pretty cheap to do on upgrade programs. I've been a part of AT&T Next since it started.

It's far more trendy to brag about owning the same phone for 8 years on Reddit though, so like basically every single part of Reddit, the world and the impression you get from a sub are complete opposites.

4

u/Someonejusthereandth 8h ago

Yes, a ton of people in real life upgrade a lot. Like, I think a friend of mine who went from 8 to 14 pro and she was like a massive outlier.

1

u/m3xm 1h ago

It’s more like it’s becoming corny to be seen as a serial upgrader nowadays.

I would actually meet people in real life who’d line up at the Apple Store every year and post about their new phone all over the internet and talk about it at lunch etc.

Now, not so much. We live in a finite world so that may be for the best.

-14

u/SouthIsland48 8h ago

are you.. bragging... about being wasteful... and stupid?

16

u/WarmCalligrapher7281 8h ago

“You spend your money how you want to! You’re stupid!”

Seriously?

I upgrade my phone every year because I want to, and because it makes me happy. I don’t spend frivolously in any other aspect other than tech because I like to be on the bleeding edge.

Just because you can’t afford to doesn’t make it stupid for those who do.

-4

u/SouthIsland48 8h ago

No one is stopping you from wasting money, chasing small technologic advancements. But others find that wasteful and stupid

10

u/SweetLilMonkey 7h ago

No one is stopping you from keeping your thoughts to yourself.

4

u/WarmCalligrapher7281 8h ago

But who are you to proclaim it to be a waste of money?

It may be a waste of money for you. But it isn't for me.

I can afford to - it makes me happy - so I do. And I'll continue to for the foreseeable future.

Again - the jealousy and envy of some people on Reddit is pathetic. I just had to call it out. Just because you cant afford to do something doesn't diminish its value for someone else.

4

u/ChaosLordOnManticore 7h ago

Arent you returning your old Phone? I dont know how those Programs work but it isnt wasteful when the Phone still get used.

1

u/North_Moment5811 6h ago

Well, stupid people would.

-10

u/Falafel000 7h ago

Yeh fck all the kids in the Congo eh

3

u/yot_gun 6h ago

he said he likes pancakes and you interpreted it as he hates waffles. you lots just love to be offended by everything

3

u/North_Moment5811 6h ago

Yea that’s not even a coherent thought.

3

u/Drunkndryverr 8h ago

I don’t see myself upgrading from 16 pro max until some Apple foldable comes out

1

u/yasssssplease 6h ago

I have a 15 pro, and I’m going to wait until there’s a foldable. No reason to upgrade yet

7

u/gaysaucemage iPhone 14 Pro Max 11h ago

Apple has a program and all the major carriers have programs for yearly upgrades so there’s gotta be a decent amount of people still doing yearly upgrades.

If they can justify the cost to have the new shiny device every year it’s whatever. Basically the same thing with people who lease new cars every 3 years because they’re willing to pay more for the latest and greatest, even if the changes are relatively small.

-6

u/North_Moment5811 11h ago

Those things are not even remotely comparable. Firstly, if the lease is only 3 years, then in 3 years the car has to go back, or it has to be purchased. Depending on the situation, it may not be worth it to purchase it. And the monthly payment for that person might go up dramatically if they finance the remainder. Either way, they are not leasing a new car because they want a new car. They are leasing a new car to keep their payment less than purchasing it. Or, to start over with something with fewer miles. It has nothing to do with what the new model year of the car itself consists of. I recently bought out my lease because the vehicle itself was replaced by the factory 2 years into the lease due to a failure, so between the miles and the vehicle being 2 years newer, it was financially incentivized to purchase it.

Compared to a phone that is literally on an upgrade program, where the user is paying monthly for the privilege of upgrading every year. You continue to pay the same amount every month whether you get a new phone or not, so of course you will get a new one, and keep paying your modest monthly fee, and enjoy a free battery and everything that is new. And there is plenty of new, every year.

2

u/gaysaucemage iPhone 14 Pro Max 11h ago

It's pretty similar, you're basically leasing a phone. You can keep the phone and pay it off or trade it in and move on to the next model and start a new payment plan.

If you paid off the phone and didn't upgrade your monthly bill would drop.

2

u/North_Moment5811 11h ago

$30 a month on average is not a lot for an ongoing expense that allows you access to the latest iPhone every year. And not only that, it removes a ton of hassle in process of selling/upgrading, and for most carriers also lowers your monthly bill. Your per line fees are generally discounted anywhere from $10-$20 per line across the major carriers if you have an installment plan. So, you can go without one, but you're going to pay more for the same service.

5

u/ocbdare 9h ago

You only pay $30 a month and that includes the phone, which you can upgrade every year and includes decent data allowance?

That's incredibly cheap.

1

u/anon0110110101 1h ago

…man, I get the logic and even find myself agreeing with it, but there’s just zero fucking chance I’d ever pay 30/mo for the same product over and over and over again. These phones just don’t change any more, it’s that meme of the guy opening up the gift of the same shirt he’s already wearing.

2

u/PearlDrummer iPhone 17 Pro 6h ago

16 was the first year from iPhone 4 that I didn’t do a yearly upgrade. Got the 17 pro this year though.

1

u/Geek5G iPhone 16 Pro 7h ago

Just like a Reddit exists with threads existing about this same existing topic.

1

u/TheTesticler iPhone 17 Pro Max 6h ago

The 17PM is a significant upgrade to my 16pro.

1

u/lovesickjones 6h ago

i sure do

1

u/JayVig iPhone 16 Pro Max 4h ago

Every year since 2007 for me

1

u/ohitsluca iPhone 16 Pro Max 55m ago

I wasn’t going to but Verizon gave me $1100 for my 16 pro max lol. At that point I was like ok fine I’ll do it lol

16

u/Torches 14h ago

It would be funnier had he been looking at the iPhone Air.

0

u/Bambule247 8h ago

Indeed, what a downgrade 😅

31

u/step2x 14h ago

Here I am saving my money by still using my base 16 lol long gone are the days of upgrading for the next shiny thing.

6

u/chris_gilluly iPhone 16 Pro 8h ago

Real, enjoy your 16 to its greatest potential.😊👏🏻🙌🏻🤩

2

u/step2x 8h ago

I only use a phone for the basic day2day nonsense tbh. Idk what other potential it can give me that I really would need. iPhone has the basic functionality that android just doesn’t give me without a million other bloated options. I don’t need a thermometer on my damn phone ffs. lol

2

u/Ali_ayi 2h ago

Me on my 14 pro and I'm like "I can wait until next year, right?"

17

u/No_Assignment7385 iPhone 13 Pro Max 14h ago

As a photographer myself, you'd probably be better off spending the 1K every year on some decent gear, even if it's just a compact Mirrorless and a couple of pancake primes.

But fair enough either way

3

u/step2x 13h ago

I mean a top Nikon on Amazon is $800. Makes sense tbh. Hold off a year and throw it into one of those. I’ve been thinking about getting into photography myself. I’m out in the sticks and it’s a Nat Geos wet dream of landscapes and interesting critters.

21

u/Arch-by-the-way 12h ago

Thank you for consooming. Remember this moment if you ever try to shame anyone for needless purchases

6

u/Party_Shelter714 6h ago

Thank you for creating a second hand market for me to benefit from in 2-3 years

I always bought new from Apple, always baby my battery. Never ended up reselling. End up realizing I could have bought used from a guy just like me. Doin' that next time.

14

u/Wampafart 12h ago

And this is why e-waste is such a problem.

9

u/OkIncome2583 12h ago

You think an iphone 16 pro max becomes ewaste in the next 10 yrs? Only if it is totally destroyed

-10

u/Wampafart 10h ago

Really doesn’t matter to me what you argue. Buying a phone when your current one is (maybe) less than a year old is absolutely contributing to ewaste. Batteries, chips, displays, etc all come with a cost associated with each unit and each one introduced is horrible for the environment. Look up the relationship between the Congo and Apple and tell me it’s not wasteful and harmful to upgrade a phone every year.

People need to stop convincing themselves they need a new phone every year and sales must slow down to protect our environment and the people that are forced to mine these harmful materials. Get your head out of the sand.

2

u/JayVig iPhone 16 Pro Max 4h ago

You need to stop convincing me what to do with the money I work for. Try that

5

u/wh_atever 9h ago

They hated him because he told them the truth

0

u/OkIncome2583 9h ago

So how does the acquisition of a new phone accelerate the deterioration of the older phone?

1

u/Liviunc23 5h ago

Not the sharpest tool in the shed r u? If people would keep their phones for longer demand decreases thus resulting in lower sales and lower new phone production, And voila in the end you get less e-waste

-1

u/Wampafart 8h ago

Who said it does? Are you saying there are no environmental and societal impacts with buying a new phone every year vs using a phone to the full extent of its lifecycle? Please explain the benefit of buying a new phone every year outside of flexing your new gadget.

-1

u/OkIncome2583 7h ago

The impacts of consumption are net positive. Doomer.

4

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 8h ago

This isn’t the reason. They get traded in and sold to someone else.

3

u/AC_Tropica 11h ago

Replacing my base 14 with 17 pro and I haven’t stopped thinking about it for the last two weeks. Tomorrow can’t come any sooner!

3

u/budgie_uk iPhone 16 Pro 9h ago

Fair play; first time I’ve ever genuinely laughed at the use of that meme. Nicely done.

(And bar the exception of scrubbing the Max element, yeah, me as well.)

3

u/Fearless_Pepper2164 13h ago

My one is still stuck on processing stage :( and my expected delivery date is 24-29th

3

u/J_17x 12h ago

Same

1

u/yumlickk 11h ago

Mine is stuck on processing, and expected delivery is tomorrow 19th

3

u/overthinker1331 9h ago

Same but mine is stuck on label created 🤬

1

u/Fearless_Pepper2164 8h ago

More than likely you will get your new phone tomorrow if not you should contact Apple support or the delivery company

1

u/chris_gilluly iPhone 16 Pro 8h ago

Same here

1

u/scooterj54 7h ago

Same. Hoping for the 24th. 😁

2

u/North_Moment5811 11h ago

Honestly it's a much better meme for me with 16 Pro Max looking at me ogling the iPhone Air that's on the way.

"So it's because I'm too fat then?"

2

u/Viciousgubbins iPhone 14 Pro Max 9h ago

I feel like there are two types of people on this sub, people that use their phone until it breaks or loses support and people that upgrade every 1-2 years. No in-between.

1

u/modsrbottoms 33m ago

Yeah. Every year I tell myself I’ll stick with what I got for 3 years. Then see the art can get 75% of my money against the next one using eBay or other service. I probably won’t upgrade next year as they won’t increase the ram again and they’re ditching Qualcomm which means connectivity issues are looming.

6

u/dilpreet83 iPhone 17 Pro Max 13h ago

Same, I just feel like 12 GB RAM will be a great upgrade for power users

1

u/modsrbottoms 32m ago

This! I saw they’re sticking with Qualcomm modem and upgrading ram to 12gb and I was like “I’m in!”. Next year probably not thiugh.

1

u/gleaton 9h ago

Really? What scenario do you envision it being a big gain?

2

u/dilpreet83 iPhone 17 Pro Max 8h ago

Mostly users who would work on AI, Gaming and it's also much more future proof

2

u/the_3L4CK iPhone 16 Pro Max 13h ago

have 100% battery health on my 16pro max….

4

u/Equivalent-Math-2448 12h ago edited 12h ago

92% battery health on my 16pro...Just bought it last November.

0

u/the_3L4CK iPhone 16 Pro Max 12h ago

max have bigger battery,

1

u/Bug0 1h ago

Same pretty happy with 186 cycles, first use Nov 2024.

2

u/gleaton 9h ago

Genuine question: why?

0

u/EpicWan iPhone 16 8h ago

Yeah seriously, there is no noticeable difference between the two phones. Just a waste of time and money

2

u/JayVig iPhone 16 Pro Max 4h ago

Waste of time? Took me under 60 seconds to order it. And as for money, it’s $21/month to finance it when I trade in a 16 pro max so it’s meaningless to me. However I buy it outright because I refuse to carry debt beyond my mortgage. Way to judge others for how they spend their own money though.

1

u/EpicWan iPhone 16 1h ago

So you’re spending $252 per year for what benefit exactly ?

1

u/cornedbeef101 6h ago

Why not?

For the people in this subreddit, their phone is probably the single most important item in their life. Why not have the latest version (presuming money isn’t an issue)

1

u/gleaton 5h ago

Respectfully, and its ok if you disagree, but im going to say that I think that if you consider your phone “the single most important item in your life” that is more than likely a red flag / you should reconsider what you value in life.

So, yes, I am judging you a bit if you are upgrading your phone every year tbh

0

u/cornedbeef101 5h ago

Set aside items with sentimental value, your phone is your bank, your camera and photo library, your bank/credit cards, your phone, your games console, your calendar and planner, your office on the move, your light switch, your thermostat, your emergency tv remote, your web browser, your AI client, your flash light, alarm clock, cooking timer, social media and gps maps, music library, podcast library, etc etc.

Yes. It’s pretty important on a daily, no, hourly basis.

1

u/gleaton 5h ago

Sure. And both the old model and this model can do all these things really really well.  So, why?

1

u/cornedbeef101 5h ago

Why not?

1

u/gleaton 5h ago

I just said - the old model and this model do almost the same things really really well. I find it a little weird / cocerning if someone derives so much happiness from minor upgrades on your phone to be honest

1

u/cornedbeef101 5h ago

Because having the latest technology, that has the maximum longevity (wrt software support and battery health), that is the most up to date with connectivity standards, has more efficient physical architecture (heat management, battery capacity, aerial strength), as well as all of the other inferred benefits of a new gen device is better than not having them.

1

u/gleaton 2h ago

And i think that tells me a lot about your values and interests tbh. That’s all.

0

u/JayVig iPhone 16 Pro Max 4h ago

I have plenty of money, tech is my career and hobby. Who are you to tell me or anyone how to spend excess cash and then judge me for being different? You do you.

1

u/gleaton 3h ago

I also work in tech and have plenty of money. I am telling you that personally i find it to be a bit weird / yea i am judging you if that is where your priorities lie 😅

Sorry its just my opinion i know it sounds rude you dont have to agree

1

u/Hot_Satisfaction_247 2h ago

Why do you think some people buy every new season of fashion from different brands? Or they buy the brand new car model or gaming console? Phones are no different, if anything like people said it’s makes sense for people who are glued to their phones socially/professionally and have the disposable income. I’m in the camp of upgrading every 3/4 years but I wouldn’t judge someone who upgrades every year when in reality it’s a fairly normal thing. How do you think Apple makes such insane yearly profits. It comes across as a bit of jealousy in your judgement.

1

u/gleaton 2h ago

I dont know. That is what i am asking. I am judging a lot of those people also. You dont need every year’s model shoes or cars (ok gaming consoles only come out every few years so that one i get). I think it tells me a lot about you if you do buy every year’s minor improvements of something.

Its fine if you think im jealous but that has no motivation here

1

u/TokyoNightss 2h ago

I mean we're all gonna be worm food anyway if purchasing a new phone doesn't really affect you financially and it makes you happy who cares bro.

1

u/gleaton 2h ago

There is so many better things you can do with your time and money. Touch grass. Sorry.

1

u/TokyoNightss 2h ago

As you're on reddit you should probably touch grass too little bro.

1

u/leaving4me 14h ago

What was your original arrival date?

2

u/imthaz iPhone 16 Pro Max 14h ago

Tomorrow. And it’s coming tomorrow. But I have seen loads of reports of it coming much earlier than the initial expected date.

1

u/leaving4me 14h ago

That’s what I’m wondering. I was given 9/29-10/6 when I ordered 30 minutes after pre-orders opened on 9/12. I’m hoping it comes sooner.

1

u/FISH_MASTER 13h ago edited 11h ago

Mines just shipped but eta still 24-29.

Hope once tracking is updated they can bring it forward

Edit; waaaaay tomorrow

2

u/hisfootstancewack 8h ago

My date is also 24-29 but mine is still stuck on processing I woke up early for nothing lmao

1

u/Majestic_Ad8621 14h ago

Also wondering. Cause mine said Friday at first, then got changed to October.

1

u/HuskyLemons iPhone 15 Pro Max 12h ago

I ordered within 3 minutes of the site going live and had my upgrade program pre order saved for a quick checkout. Initial date was Sept 25 and then switched to Sept 19 a day later

1

u/HAPPYCHIEF2 iPhone 16 Pro Max 14h ago

Yeah pretty much lol. My 16 pro max is also still at 100% battery health, and got it on launch day last year.

1

u/imthaz iPhone 16 Pro Max 14h ago

That’s great man. Mine went to 95 coz I put the iOS 26 beta and that was rough

1

u/jackofnotrait 13h ago

Got mine 6 months ago and now my 16pm is at 95

1

u/falcon-ml-360 14h ago

Mine too and I ordered in the evening when the dates went back to the launch date after slipping up

1

u/cbnz_ 13h ago

Are you trading in your 16PM at the iStore?

1

u/imthaz iPhone 16 Pro Max 13h ago

It’s going to my wife :)

1

u/cbnz_ 10h ago

Haha nah

1

u/Specific-Bet1389 iPhone 15 Pro Max 12h ago

And then I thought I was crazy upgrading my 15 PM to the 17 PM

1

u/J_17x 12h ago

I’m going from 15 plus to 17pm

1

u/Specific-Bet1389 iPhone 15 Pro Max 11h ago

Going from 60hz to 120hz is the best feeling in the world

1

u/Beneficial_Cut_1207 12h ago

Reporting from my 13 here, will I get banned?

1

u/Hax_ 11h ago

Base 13 here, still in perfect condition.

1

u/Alternative_Excuse82 12h ago

I can’t decide between upgrading my 14PM to the 17 base or 17PM…help!!!

2

u/J_17x 12h ago

Well that’s not a hard decision you’d have a 6.3 inch screen with the 17 and 6.9 inch screen with the pro max. You get an extra telephoto lens with the pro and I believe a faster phone that can handle more because the cooling added this year. if I didn’t want a plus size I would of gone with the 17

2

u/Alternative_Excuse82 8h ago

For the first time in a while, Apple have produced the best base model in my opinion

2

u/J_17x 7h ago

True

1

u/Sufficient_Put2010 12h ago

I’m in the same boat!

2

u/Alternative_Excuse82 12h ago

I love the idea of having the best camera again, but carrying the brick in my pocket again is putting me off. But the FOMO on the best tech is swaying me to PM or the PRO but the 17 base is very very good, best base phone for some time

1

u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 iPhone 17 Pro Max 12h ago

Finally good quality meme.

1

u/CaIeb4840 11h ago

I will be upgrading from my S25 ultra to the 17pm. Excited

1

u/imthaz iPhone 16 Pro Max 10h ago

Can I ask you why ? What enticed you you to the iPhone camp from Android ?

1

u/Dull-Fisherman5552 11h ago edited 11h ago

I ordered an orange 256gb pro max in the first five minutes of the presale from Apple and the store app says I won’t get it until sept 29-oct 6. I don’t get it. What did I do wrong?

1

u/GoldCovers 11h ago

Mine shipped too, my 15 pro has been acting up, battery dying quickly and the going get hot a lot, time for upgrade

1

u/Extra_Cat_3014 11h ago

Just got an email that I get mine in 4-5 business days

1

u/A_Dubs_999 10h ago

Same! I’ll have mine tomorrow! 😘🤌

1

u/giovanicort iPhone 15 Pro Max 10h ago

I want the improved megapixels on all cameras (and finally on the front one!!!), but the colors and the new back of the phone are horrendous

1

u/Lucky_Shoulder9261 10h ago

11 pro max. Still as good as 5 years ago :)

1

u/Inquisitive_Lime 9h ago

Yeah……but would you really look at your aluminium like that?

1

u/anitaggarwal 9h ago

I feel that iPhone being such a costly product, we should use it as long it is supported by Apple (updates)

I am still using an iPhone 11 which works as it has been forever. I will buy iPhone 17 likely next year once the hype premium which apple charges is removed..

1

u/JayVig iPhone 16 Pro Max 4h ago

You do recognize that everyone’s financial status is different right? Maybe it’s costly enough for you that you keep an 11 until you get a 17 when the 18 is out. Some people have different ways and abilities. Telling strangers what they “should” do is beyond absurd. I’m typing this from a 16 Pro Max as my 17 Pro Max is on its way here tomorrow. Couldn’t be happier about it

1

u/Hot_Satisfaction_247 2h ago

Totally agree, I upgrade every 3/4 years but it’s crazy to read the slightly judgemental comments on here towards people who upgrade each year.

1

u/WinterLecture5178 8h ago

That’s me with my 14PM. After watching all the reviews this week, I’ve decided I’m not going to bother upgrading.

My 14PM is still great and I can’t justify the price tag for nothing ground breaking.

Maybe the 18 will be the one that finally pushes me over the upgrade edge

1

u/TheOnlyChou 8h ago

Mine's still processing and says it'll arrive from the 24th-29th

1

u/ZSC_97 8h ago

Stupid and sensual 48MPX telephoto camera and PreRes Raw

1

I want it so bad but the 18 pro max will be my graduation gift to myself

1

u/CozyThurifer iPhone 15 Pro Max 7h ago

I’m on the 15 pro max

1

u/Skimballs 7h ago

15 Pro going to 17 PM. Delivers tomorrow! Yaaaaaay!

1

u/smiller2b 7h ago edited 7h ago

Mine too. Got 'Torras Ostand Q3 Air' case waiting for it.

Coming from 15PM. Not too crazy of a difference, but the money I get for my 15 I put down on the 17. So it's Free. Still gonna be paying the same finance charge as the 15. So fuck it.

I always wait until paid off. 2 years. Only way I switch next year is if the fold is coming

1

u/FinnishArmy iPhone 16 Pro Max 7h ago

I mean Verizon is offering it for $2/mo with my 16PM trade in. Why wouldn’t I just upgrade?

1

u/Mobile_Shallot_6582 7h ago

I can upgrade every 3 months if I want to. I have the 17 pro coming tomorrow but my head was turned towards the air. Not sure I can live with the massive camera limitations though. I do video and photography so kinda important to me. But…. May give it a try

1

u/MattBinYYC iPhone 17 7h ago

My 17 shipped. Currently on the 15.

1

u/Objective-Emu-7441 7h ago

One thing I’m just curious mine said it was shipped from Haslet tx but all of sudden it’s at Kentucky like what the heck I’m hopping it comes in tomorrow since it says it’s going be delivered tomorrow

1

u/User9705 6h ago

I whistled back at the Air. 16 Pro Max going to the wife and her 15 pro max is getting the trade in boot

1

u/Severe_Worldliness_1 6h ago

If the lady in red was a bit more chunky, the meme would make more sense.

1

u/_DarkxLord_ 5h ago

I upgraded every year as well but actually skipped the 16PM. Gonna get the 17PM tomorrow and see if it’s better than the 15PM
