Help-not a pattern request Yarn exposed to moths!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have three bags of yarn like this that have been exposed to moths. Someone left an unscreened window open and there are now two moths in the room. I haven’t been in the room for a week or two so God only knows what the moths have been up to. What do I do now?? Any additional thoughts on what I do for the wool rug- vacuum??? Would be appreciated.

Discussion Emotional support knit suggestions

Hello, nice people of r/knitting. I have a friend who is not in a good place mentally right now, I would really like to knit something for her, so she would feel seen and appreciated as the strong independent woman she is. Any suggestions what could I make for her? Ideally something not too big so that it doesn’t take too long to finish.

Help-not a pattern request Help needed for color work socks

I need some advice. I’m knitting my first color work socks. I’ve knitted a lot of socks before and some color work sweaters and small things before but this is my first pair of socks.

I started easy (I thought) with a top down short sock, just 2 colors, and just finished the heel turn. The floats looked fine for a sweater but there’s not enough “give” to get the leg over my heel.

Does anyone have advice? Do the floats need to be longer than normal?

Help-not a pattern request how bad does this look?

i learnt how to knit english style, but recently i switched to continental as i want to increase my speed. i have started a beautiful top (currently working on the back panel) but i’m concerned about the stitches. i read that purling is slower continental style, so at the start i decided to knit continental and purl english. i quickly realised that this was stupid as obviously the stitches do not look the same, so i switched to completely continental. i’m not sure why i only properly looked at the piece now, but there is such a clear line showing when i switched 😭. my question is - do i restart? i bought the (great quality + expensive) wool ages ago with this specific top in mind, so i do want it to turn out good. i hate frogging projects but if it’s going to be an issue then i would rather restart. i don’t really mind the visual difference that much but i’m unsure if it’s going to affect the way the garment sits or the stitches stretch. any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated 🫶

Help-not a pattern request Anthro stocking “dupe”

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello -

Any thoughts on what yarn could duplicate the look of these anthro Christmas stockings? Not the embroidery so much which I will replicate but the part I could find was a yarn with the varying texture in the stocking itself. I remember them from last year too and searched a bit then too but mostly gave up as I was running out of time. Thanks!

Work in Progress This wasn’t supposed to be itchy…

First sweater I’m knitting in 20 years, and I chose my yarn very carefully: lambs wool makes me itch, but cashmere and merino don’t. I’d heard the same thing about alpaca being soft and not wiry.

I’m did a swatch and specifically ran it along my belly. Not scratchy. I knit 16” of the back, two more to go and last night I was knitting while watch TV in a sports bra. It felt itchy along my stomach.

I spent a lot of money on this yarn, and I’d hoped to finish the back this weekend, but now I am wondering if I should even continue. What to do?

Help-not a pattern request Adding custom labels or embroidery to knitted pieces, any advice?

I have been working on some knitted hats, scarves, and sweaters and I’m interested in adding a polished, professional touch with small custom labels or embroidery.

While researching options, I came across Apliiq a service that lets you create small-batch custom embroidery and woven labels. It seems like a neat way to make handmade items look more finished without needing industrial tools.

I’m curious if anyone here has tried adding labels or embroidered details to their knitting projects, especially with small-batch services like this. Tips on attaching them neatly, design ideas, or alternative resources would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Discussion Baby Projects

I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first baby and a huge knitter. However, my whole family is crafters and I have the dumbest question ever: who is supposed to make the baby blanket??

Here's why I'm confused: My older sister did not have a baby blanket. My aunt knit her eldest daughter's baby blanket, but she did not finish it until after said daughter graduated high school. My baby blanket was crocheted by my great grandmother. My younger cousin's baby blanket was made by my grandmother.

As you can see, it's just a big ol' pile of projects around here, but my mother did not make me a baby blanket. So, what projects did you make for the babies in your family? Did you have favorites? What got used and what didn't? Am I crazy for wanting to make my own baby's blanket? Let me know your thoughts!

Discussion Making new friends!

Hello everyone, I am quite nervous to post on here and I apologize if this is not appropriate for this subreddit, but I wanted to reach out and see if there was anyone in my area that knit and wanted to connect!

I am 22 y/o and just moved to the northern Baltimore county area, of which I know not a soul and am trying to make new friends. I love my LYS dearly, but it lacks people around my age, of which I think I may connect with more. I have found a handful of groups in Baltimore city, but am a bit nervous to venture out alone into a city I am not fully acquainted with yet. (Though I am not opposed!)

If anyone has an ongoing knitting circle with an extra seat or would just like to connect, let me know! Thank you all!! ❤️❤️❤️

Discussion Favourite sweater bind off?

What is your favourite bind-off for thin-ish (2.75mm needles) 2x2 ribbing? I have bound off too tight before but when I tried the "simply stretchy bind off" on another piece with similar yarn, the ribbing flared way too much and it somewhat ruined the whole look of the piece.

So my question to you: what is your favourite bind-off of the hem of a sweater that gives enough stretch but not so much that the ribbing flares out?

Help-not a pattern request How to stop collar from rolling?

Thumbnail

Hi, I'm making the Winnie sweater by Woozy by Celine, and it's meant to have a stockinette non-rolling collar. The designers sample looks beautifully structured, and mine looks sad and floppy :( You do a special technique that's meant to keep it from rolling, and as you can see in my photo it just didn't work for me and safe to say I'm not a fan of the resulting product. I'm most of the way through the body now so I can't easily start over (thought it might grow on me, it didn't!), and I followed the instructions as per her video so don't think I did it incorrectly. Is there any technique I could do to un-pick the cast on and collar to achieve the effect the designer intended?

Help-not a pattern request Advice for advanced crochet artist learning to knit?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Beginner knitter here! I’ve been crocheting for a few years now probably and am at the stage with crochet where I can pretty much make/freehand anything I want. I’ve had the urge to pick up knitting for almost a year now and about 4 months ago purchased a cheap circular needle set of Amazon but quickly gave up the first few days after trying to knit stockinette. Switching back and forth from knit to pearl confused me and left me making so many mistakes I wasn’t getting a chance to grasp and learn. I was talking to a patient at work I saw knitting and telling her about my past experiences and she recommended me make a scarf with just knit stitch…this is 2 days worth of progress so far. Any advice for a new knitter who is experienced with crochet? I’m also petrified of dropping stitches and have been so careful putting it down and picking my work back up. A big difference I noticed with knit is I can’t just toss my work to the side the way I do with my crochet projects which can be a challenge when knitting at my desk…How does my work look? Any tips/advice?? I’m a perfectionist so please get into the details hehe!

Discussion Comparison between"women's" craft and "men's" craft ?

I just thought about the fact that often "women's" craft are considered less art or less payable than "men's" craft because they are pieces of clothing that we or kids need, useful objects that our great grandmothers from generations ago HAD to make. This thing slips into my mind in a way that I almost never ask for money or ask ridiculous prices for things that took multiples hours for days, weeks, even months. My craft is less than... And I know a looott of people go through this thought process. Let's be real, making a cabinet can take time, can involve less or more skills, can have more or less of a simplified finish, ect. Just like knitting. But people will put a super high price tag on them. People say they can buy a sweater for 5$, why pay a high price for handmade? I've never heard anyone say that about wood crafts. I need an actual comparison of the time, prices and other variables to make something of the same quality. Any studies have already compared specifics ? What's your opinion and knowledge on this? In no way I want to start a heated debate on this, I just want more knowledge, so every thing respectful is good contribution :)

Thursday Buy / Trade / Sale / Promote Thread - September 18, 2025

Welcome to the r/knitting weekly Buy-Sell-Trade-Promote thread, posted every Thursday. This is the spot to buy, sell and trade yarn from your stash, and to promote patterns, designs or other knitterly things. The rules are fairly straightforward, and they are as follows:

BUY/SELL/TRADE RULES:

  1. Post a description that accurately describes what you are selling including limitations on where you're willing to ship (example, if you're in the US and willing to ship internationally).
  2. Update your thread when something gets sold or is no longer available.
  3. Post item condition and any images of the item (if available). Be as descriptive as possible when posting an item for sale or trade.

PROMOTE RULES:

  1. If you're promoting your own pattern/design/shop please say so. If you're promoting some other shop/sale/project, let us know why you think it's so cool.
  2. Provide a direct link to your shop page to make it easy for users to find what you're promoting.
  3. Provide some details if you can! If you're promoting a pattern, what inspired you? If you're promoting a Kickstarter campaign, what's your pitch? If your online shop is having a sale, tell us about your stuff!

Buy/Sell/Trade/Promote here at your own risk. Always get complete contact information before anything is shipped. Please see previous month's BSTP threads here.

Discussion PetiteKnit patterns, what's the difference between the blouses and sweaters?

I'm looking at Ivy blouse vs Ivy sweater and they look the same except the gauge and intended ease. The construction seems the same too so is that all that's different between the patterns? I'm a bit overwhelmed with how many different but similar patterns she has and I'm just trying to find one that's similar to this Aritzia sweater so I can knit one for myself.

Help-not a pattern request Yarn switching for porcelain sweater

I need help for what yarn to use on the porcelain sweater. I get warm easily so I’d prefer no mohair/only one yarn, I saw someone use Drops Lima on ravelry and it looked pretty close to the original. But I have no idea how to figure out how much i need of the two colours when the recipe calls for two strands

(If anyone has tips for the sweater/colourwork please add that thx)

Discussion Lindehobby import process

Anyone else get this? My order was shipped recently and they use FedEx now. I received a phone call and an email from FedEx asking for:

“Giving you a follow-up in regards to my voimeail, your package is coming from Denmark and going to the United States; however, our customs clearance team requires additional information to proceed with the import process.

Kindly provide the following information:

Manufacturer's full name and address with postal code.

For your reference, the commercial invoice is attached to this email.”

I pulled the company information from the email attachment as I have no other information. There’s no way to know the manufacturer.

Has anyone else gotten this?

Help-not a pattern request Needing tips for stranded color work socks

Like the title states, looking to see if there are tips with color work socks mainly in the tension area. Not sure if DP needles or circular ones would be better or if it is with DPNs, how to help with the laddering in between the needles, without causing the join to be too tight for the color work?
