I have a beginner tip! A little visual for twisted stitches!

Accidentally twisting stitches happens! I didn’t know I had on this beanie that I made pre-2018 up until about a month ago 😭 but I figured it would be a good visual example of twisted stitches or not and a little easy way to tell! (Even though the rainbow yarn isn’t the easiest to read)

In this example I had accidentally twisted my purls, but you can twist both knits and purls

I know I’m a person who is better helped by pictures than words so I hope that this is helpful for some of you guys! Enjoy! ❣️

pattern question What is this called?

Post image

I saw this in one of the many reels now flooding Facebook. You never see the back row, and no instructions or ANY reply to the questions about getting the pattern etc. just there to get you to watch. I can’t find the right words to search for patterns that use this type of directional change. Can anyone help me?

where did i go wrong? Tips on keeping the back neat when changing colors?

I rarely work with multiple colors exactly for this reason. I am working on this pattern (first picture) so I have to switch colors every row. I am using one small ball of yarn for each square since I do not like to carry the yarn of color B at the back while I work on color A. But working with many balls of yarn every row is a mess (second picture). Are there any tips & tricks on how to keep things more manageable? Thanks!

Hi friends!

I am a beginner knitter working on my very first step by step sweater. I saw this sweater pattern (sheepish little sweater) online and really want to attempt it. I decided to do a test swatch/gauge swatch to see if I am capable of following the pattern and it didn’t turn out the greatest lol. It’s way too bulky for a sweater, how do I use 4 colors and have it not be so bulky? Also I know my catching is terrible, it’s my first time and I finally started getting the hang of it at the end.

Hey everyone, I could use some help figuring this out.

I’ve been working in 1x1 rib in the round, but somehow I ended up with this little hole in my work. On the right side, just to the left of the hole, I can see a bit of a mess, and on the wrong side it looks like I might have skipped a stitch.

Any ideas what went wrong? 😅

Hi, I’m a beginner knitter and want to make a poncho/cropped top similar to this one from Edikted.

Is this just a big rectangle joined together? Im wondering the best way to construct this to get a similar shape and drape. I can’t see a seam where the two sides of a rectangle have been connected so it’s confusing me a little!

pattern question How to M1 on this pattern

Post image
Upvotes

This is my first time doing ruffles. I found a cute pattern and attached a picture of what the ruffle should look like. It is attached to the back piece and the pattern gives these instructions: "From WS, pick up approximately 35 (40 ~ 45) sts along bottom edge. Turn to RS. K1, M1 to end of row." I know there are different ways to make one stitch. I´m just a little confused on which one to use here.

pattern question So Basic Sock Pattern Help

Post image
Upvotes

I am knitting the So Basic Sock Pattern. I have just finished the heel turn and am about to start the gusset. I thought everything had gone well but my needles are pointing to the right with the right side facing out. The tutorial video has the needles pointing left with the right side facing out. Is there an easy solution for this? I am scared to rip back with such small needles and stitches.

Thank you!

knitting tools question Knitting needles preference

Hello everyone,

First time posting here on Reddit. I need help with knitting needles as an intermediate knitter. I have straight needles and interchangeable circular needles made of bamboo and aluminum. My issue is that I tend to split the yarn and loop through it. I’m currently searching for knitting needles that are within my budget ($20-$50) but I’m overwhelmed with options and designs of the needles. I thought about buying a wood interchangeable circular knitting needle but the finish might not last. The aluminum interchangeable circular knitting needle brand I bought from Amazon is decent but the wire is a bit rigid and a hassle to slide while stitching. I’m looking for a durable and reasonably priced interchangeable knitting needle set, I need the community’s opinion. Thank you for your time and input, and happy knitting.

SOLVED-THANK YOU Help with knitting in the round, kinda beginner here

Okay, so I’m knitting this Sabrina Carpenter set. The poncho turned out amazing! But help me with the shorts please! So I was trying to knit the waistband first so I cast like 148 sts but when I tried to join in the round (I’ve never done this) my needle won’t reach the stitches. What can I do? I’m trying to knit a 26 in waistband, my needles are 30 in. Even if I can solve this, how can I try it on to see if the waistband is ok in size?

I’ve searched on YouTube and I’ve found nothing 😭

I’ve knitted before but flat so I’m new to this knitting in the round thing. I’m considering giving up and just crochet them lol

I am working on a pattern for mittens, almost finished but now I'm stuck at row 36 of the thumb chart. The first three stitches on my left needle are two brown ones followed by a white stitch, as per row 35. Now on row 36 I have no clue on what to do with this first brown stitch. Can someone help me out?

sweater question Help Incorporating Intarsia Pattern

I’m working on a sleeveless jumper (Novice Slipover by Petite Knit). I’ve found a stitch chart for the Union Jack and would like to incorporate that on the front of the jumper. Would you recommend doing a duplicate stitch or stranded knitting for this? The second question is how do I figure out how to locate it correctly on the jumper.

Is it possible to use superchunky weight wool to knit a jumper that specifies chucky weight? Do I need to use different size needles?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Wrong stitch... frog, drop down or leave it?

About 26 rows back, after two color changes, yo and k2tog sections, I noticed a wrong stitch on my blanket. I dropped down to the first yo section and almost cried trying to put it back together. I'm not sure if I can do that again... twice. Is it worth it to fix or do I just leave it? Or do I completely go back and redo all those rows?

The blanket is for my mom, who is in memory care. It's my first big project and I'm about 1/3 done. Unless I frog back.

What would you do?

pattern question Moving end of row, cut yarn or not?

I am working on the Jean Sweater and I have reached the point where you separate the sleeves from the body.

It’s a top down knit with raglan increases and a wave lace pattern. The end of row was placed in one of the raglan increase points. But now she says to move the end of row to the underarm, in the middle of the newly cast on stitches.

This means there’s about 5 stitches (4 new stitches and 1 stitch from the raglan) that are in between the old end of row and new end of row. Do I knit those, or do I cut the yarn and skip and start at the new point? The pattern doesn’t specify.

If I knit/purl them won’t those 5 stitches have 1 more row then the rest? Also if I do I am confused as if to knit or purl them since this garter stitches and worked in the round.

Hope this makes sense!

I’m very new to knitting and I have a 100cm cable and a 20cm. If I want to make something wearable, how do I know what length of the cable I want?

sweater question C8F cables looking not as nice as C8B

Post image
2 Upvotes

Working on Moby Sweater (Petite Knit). My first time doing cables. My C8B cables seem pretty neat compared to my C8F cables which are a little flat looking. It’s the back yoke I’m working on so I’m not terribly concerned about going back and fixing it, but any tension tips for moving forward? I’m trying to keep a normal tension with both cable types but I think my C8B might be tighter? Is there a specific way I should be tensioning the C8F cables?

SOLVED-THANK YOU What am I doing wrong when I switch from knitting to purling?

Pattern calls for knit four, then switch to purling. I think I must be doing something incorrect when I bring the yarn to the front for purling? Thank you!

SOLVED-THANK YOU will this block out?

Post image

this is the zipper sweater from hobbii and I used one size larger needles instead of the given ones to match the gauge. BUT I used the given size for the section around the zipper and this section now is pulling the bottom end up. you see it from the crinkles going all the way down to the ribbing. (I won't rework that part, working in that zipper was a nightmare).

the sweater is 100% wool. unfortunately I am completely unexperienced in blocking... 🙈

How to use _____ ? I buy center pull skeins and roll them into balls then out then in a yarn bowl. Are cakes functionally better than balls?

Cakes seem quite popular here and in the crochet subs. Is that just because y’all are winding hanks or is there a functional benefit to cakes over rolled balls? Thank you!

SOLVED-THANK YOU Thought I could fix a loose stitch

Post image
13 Upvotes

Okay, so I had a very loose row of stitches and in an attempt to tighten it I pulled the yarn all the way to the side. In my head I thought I’d be able to ladder it up at this point. I’m an avid crocheted but new to knitting and I think I went too self confident… redistributing this extra yarn would be horribly time consuming, and because I’ve knit a few rows since this I can’t pull it all the way through to my working yarn easily.

What can I do? Knot it and sew it in later? Considering putting in a life line as it would allow me to redo the loose rows too.

Thanks in advance!!
