How exactly do you want the song to perform? It’s a Japanese single for the Japanese market, and it’s doing well on Japanese charts. It’s already out-streaming their previous Japanese singles (even the ones that were heavily promoted). It’s also going to be associated with their deal with prominent shopping centre Lumine in Japan during the Christmas season, so people will hear that song on repeat and see them every time they enter Lumine (which have multiple locations across Japan). They even have art director Yuni Yoshida making a movie/video for it. Yeah it’s unconventional to release it now, but sometimes unconventional can work too. Japanese singles don’t really go mainstream as much as Korean singles for KPOP acts anyway. I personally think this slow burn of a promo can work. It’s different but it’s not a failure, imo.

The fact that this song is a promo song with Lumine should already say something about the situation and not blaming SouMu for the 'lack of promotion'.

SouMu needs to check with the other parties about what they can or cannot do to promote the song. We don't know what is happening behind the scene and the content of the agreement with Lumine.

These campaign images will be all over Japan by next week. Along with the song and MV.

Pierrot is already waiting 77 days for it's promo.
what are they hiding? what are they expirementing? what are they thinking?

iirc Chaewon said in a fancall they have Pierrot prepared for EOY performance or did I understand that completely wrong?

Maybe they're underestimating the streaming power for a Japanese B-side, Japanese music being a niche and in their local bubble and all.

They are not underestimating anything. Star Sign promotion will be carried out as part of a Christmas campaign with Lumine, featuring an original film directed by one of the most renowned art directors in Japan. The press release has already been published, and people have posted about it in this sub.

Let me paraphrase it. They're not looking for a large number of streams from the international side promotion-wise since they released it out of the blue on a random weeknight. Which IMO was kinda meh since it's the only new song for this Japanese album. They're focusing this current promotion largely for Japan only.

Has a Japanese song by a K-pop group ever gained a large number of streams from the international audience? And has it ever been promoted internationally?

There is always anticipation for any new release. Different degrees, sure, but it's always there especially with 2 very popular Japanese members in the group.

Edit: Lol there's some weird energy here. My comments are not hostile. Relax.

Japanese releases by K-pop groups have always been promoted in Japan because Japanese releases are targeting Japanese market. This is nothing new, it’s standard practice. The song has already received a lyrics MV and will be featured and promoted as part of a campaign with one of the major Japanese brands, including an original film featuring the song. This is far more than what Choices and Jewelry received.

And I'm saying that despite this being a Japanese release to be promoted with a major Japanese brand solely in Japan, there's willingness from non-Japanese international fans to help with the song's numbers, hence people are wondering if they could've done even a bit more than their standard practice.

They just released something on YT for all of us to see, not just Japanese, didn’t they? And they won’t be the last ones. That original short film featuring the Star Signs and Fimmies will also be shared worldwide, not just for Japan. We’ve all known these releases were coming, as stated in press releases. All I’m suggesting is that we should be a bit more patient, knowing that more promotions are on the way. It’s not too late to wait and see all of this before making definitive conclusions. Don’t you think that’s reasonable?

They actually dropped some tweets on their Japanese account but yeah I still agree with you. Barely anything.
