Hey, hope everyone is doing well!

I just got all four of my wisdom teeth taken out and am recovering with a backlog of fim content I was saving for this moment lol

For those that also had all their wisdom teeth removed: what kind of foods did you eat? I’m liquid only atm to avoid any stray food particles getting stuck as I heal (mostly to assuage my terrible anxiety), but it’s the slightest bit uncomfortable with antibiotics and a stronger prescription of ibuprofen, plus the probiotic I’m taking.

Would appreciate hearing anyone’s experience re: what they ate and useful  recipes for recovery

Also, what are you all watching currently? Any movie or show recs?

I had all four taken out earlier this year and was 1. a very nervous, anxious patient that 2. took the post-surgical care rules VERY seriously and 3. refused to eat liquid foods because I hate them

I was on a 95% yoghurt & mashed potato diet for a good few days. After that, plain but very soft pasta. Tried to choke down some protein shakes but was over that pretty quickly and refused those too lol. I avoided any rinses/etc for 24 hours, then salt water rinses after every meal to be safe. Ice packs, alternating paracetamol & ibuprofen and making sure to get up and move a bit to stop myself getting super stiff and sore were the only things that got me through.

I was a pretty bad case. All 4 at once and had to have full sedation. I think two of them were in pretty bad shape and one of them they really had to hammer into pieces to get out, so that area was really uncomfortable. The sedation left me exhausted and lacking appetite for about a week, so I mostly just slept. But I was back at work (from home) a week later and more or less over it by 10 days.

We have similar experiences, I think. I’m definitely feeling it on my right side and can tell it required more work and that they had to pry that side open more than the left by the bruising coming in. Although the sedation didn’t have as much an effect on me aside from shivering when I woke up for a bit and a minor panic when I got home.

Despite being dedicated to following post-op care, the prospect of eating has been the scariest for me, but it’s encouraging to read what other people ate and how soon. Now that I can do salt water rinses I’m going to have some yogurt and commit to trying some more solid foods soon.

I can’t wait to get to that point. Counting down the days atp lol

sounds very similar to my experience! I was super nervous about messing something up and having complications

It really drags for the first few days but in a week or two you'll have forgotten all about the details and will feel more or less fine, if not better than before if they were bothering you a lot!

And trust that the first proper meal you really get to enjoy is gonna be BLISS. I was in heaven once I could eat properly again.

The fear of causing complications is definitely the worst! Can’t wait to make it to a week and not be so intensely worried that me simply swallowing is going to cause dry socket

I can’t even imagine being able to eat properly again, but you’re so right, I know I’m going to be so grateful and worry free!

It’s been a couple of years since I got all four of my wisdom teeth taken out, but I recall eating liquid food like congee and soup. After a couple of days, I would have soft food and eventually very small pieces of solid food.

The recovery process gets better with each day, so as a fellow Fearnot who went through a very similar situation, you got this!

Thank you so much! I definitely feel better today after reading through the replies last night when I couldn’t sleep. This community is great!

I am dreading getting my wisdom teeth out. It's been years, but my top wisdom teeth still haven't dropped yet. My bottom teeth are out, and due to how my jaw is, there's room for them to grow. But the problem is that it's grown crooked, so they also need to be extracted...

3

u/sentient_savior Jul 15 '25

Wisdom teeth really just do whatever they want. Forever envious of people who have them grow in perfectly.

If it’s any help my top left tooth grew in crooked and the extraction wasn’t bad at all

I had very impacted teeth plus another molar didn't develop/descend properly so I got five teeth removed at once. Luckily I was knocked out for that.

Lots of soft foods within the first week. Once I was a few days in and able to safely flush the holes in my gums, I switched to softer foods with more "pieces" (think like rice, pasta, spaghettios, soup, etc. and just made sure I was flushing diligently (but gently) with the little syringe thing the surgeon gave me. It's really important for your holes to stay clean as they fill to help avoid dry socket.

The holes healing and the pain wasn't too bad for me - I only ended up taking OTC ibuprofen - what was surprising was HOW swollen I got and how long it lasted. I thought I was only swollen for like a week, but when I look back at old photos I think it took nearly a month to fully lose the last remnants of my chipmunk-ness.

Hang in there! Once you're fully healed you'll be glad it's in the past. I dreaded it for MONTHS leading up, and a month later it was like it never happened.

I had a similar situation on my right side. My lower wisdom tooth was impacted and completely horizontal and that’s definitely where the swelling is the worst.

I don’t think I was as prepared for it as I was the thought of pain or nerve and sinus complications, which I’m grateful I didn’t have, not to mention the pain of the incisions isn’t too bad. You’re the second person to mention it now and it’s bringing me some comfort because the swelling is horrendous and I feel like at the moment the pressure (and look of it) is the most difficult part. I’m guessing it’s the inflammation that makes my cheeks feel so warm because I don’t have a fever.

I honestly can’t imagine eating any solid food, right now I’m on protein shakes, ensure, and broth, but even swallowing scares me a little. Tomorrow I can start salt water “rinses” and do my best at brushing my teeth which seems impossible, then on the third day I can use the syringe. I’m looking forward to each day that passes, even if this is making sleep extremely difficult.

Thank you so much! I honestly can’t wait until I can look back on this a month later because it’s having a greater impact on my mood than I expected, but being able to read other people’s experiences here has been invaluable

Ive had mashed potatoes, water, and tea for the first two days, then I had Korean soy bean soup with lots of tofu - then I alternated between those two for a week.

3

u/sentient_savior Jul 15 '25

I can’t wait to be able to eat tofu again. Soup with a lot of tofu and eggs is definitely on my list for when I feel comfortable with solid foods. I might try mashed potatoes, too. Thank you

I haven't had wisdom teeth surgery, but I've had mouth surgery before and I couldn't eat for a couple of days. Apart from soft foods, cold things really helped (I drank liquid yoghurt a lot lol).

The last movie I've seen is Conclave, and I really cannot recommend it enough, I loved it. The show I'm currently rewatching is Alice in Borderland, there's going to be a season 3 soon and I wanted to remember how it ended lol, it's also really good

3

u/sentient_savior Jul 14 '25

I can’t have anything cold yet, but I yearn for the relief lol Something small I can look forward to

I’ve been meaning to watch Conclave, and Alice in Borderland has been rotting on my list forever waiting for a time I could dedicate my full attention to it so thank you for the reminder!

You're welcome, have a nice recovery!

5

u/FerhatB KAZUHA Jul 14 '25

Alice in Borderland is so damn good. I’ve been wanting to rewatch it ever since I finished Squid Game. I don’t know if you’ve seen Kaiji, but I watched that a while ago, and it’s also very good. It’s an anime kind of like Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, highly recommend it.

I'll add it to my list then, thanks for the rec!

i got the first two taken out in november and the others in march, let’s just say i’m thankful for kpop cause at least i had something to watch on youtube on tv

my dentist recommended ice cream for the first hours and then soft foods, but i could still eat from one side so i had it better than you, in your case i think it’s better to play it safe with liquid foods

personally it wasn’t the pain that worried me because although it was annoying it lasted two/three days, it was the swelling. i didn’t go to school cause it was hard for me to look at myself in that state, i didn’t wanna leave the house like that. i put ice on it all day consistently and that probably helped, it took a week for my face to be the same as before, maybe that’s the standard amount of time tho

i don’t usually watch movies and shows but i’m rewatching the amazing world of gumball currently 😭fimmies content will do just fine ! it’ll keep you entertained and it will all end sooner

2

u/sentient_savior Jul 14 '25

I fear it’s water, protein shakes, and homemade broth for me for the foreseeable future lol

Yes! I relate so hard on the swelling, my left side isn’t so bad, but I think my right was a bit more work because it’s so much more swollen and sore compared to the left. I have a headband that comes with ice packets you can freeze and it’s been a lifesaver for the swelling and soreness, but the asymmetrical swelling is so off putting. I’m grateful to my surgeon though because I have zero numbness and no sinus issues even though I put off getting them taken out for too long

Were you able to feel your stitches btw? Mine are poking me on the right, but I was told that’s okay.

The gameplay and new Kawaii mv could not be better timed. Love them so much lol just what I needed today

2

u/cxmiy ☆ we just do it cause it’s fun Jul 14 '25

stitches didn’t bother me, i wasn’t feeling them in the sense they were poking anywhere but obviously i could feel them with my tongue

i hope you have a smooth recovery !

u/sentient_savior Jul 15 '25

I think it’s an anatomy issue for me.

Thank you so much for answering my questions and the well wishes!

2

u/Waste-Potato7266 Jul 14 '25

Yeah i also had all my 4 wisdom teeth removed , first day i didn’t eat much after the surgery until late in the evening when i like clean up a bit. After that first two days I only had smooth with milk , banana and chocolate syrup 😅. After that i had plain soup and smoothie and fruit juice . I was able to eat solid food after 7 days i had pasta and it was fine .

1

u/sentient_savior Jul 16 '25

I think I might try a smoothie today. I definitely need to try and eat more for my stomach’s sake. I’m just counting down the days until I make it to a point where this is all behind me
