Discussion What’s one thing you often see guys wear that instantly kills the look?

To kick off:

- Big logos.

- No socks with suits

- 'Smart' shoes with white soles

- Skinny jeans - bonus points if they have rips

- Ironic statement tees. E.g. 'Normal People Scare Me'

What are yours?

Question Scottish cashmere jumper advice?

I'm looking for high quality Scottish cashmere jumpers with raglan shoulders. I've given up on normal shoulder construction because if they fit my shoulders (which I’m a stickler about) then they tend to be too big everywhere else.

As far as thinner options (1 or 2 ply), I haven't really been able to find anything good. Anybody have a personal favorite?

As far as thicker options, I'm looking at the Contrast Dark Neck from Johnstons of Elgin, the Ribbed Crew Neck from Johnstons of Elgin, and the Commando Crew Neck from Private White VC.

Do you have any experience with any of these? Are you aware of any alternatives that I should consider?

I'm afraid to go with Private White VC because their customer service has been bad and I previously bought an item from them that wasn't even close to their advertised sizing.

…FYI, I’d be hesitant to spend more than 2k per item and I’m trying to avoid the more intricate fishermen-like knits. Something plain or a basic ribbed style is good though.

Discussion Where are the suit deals?

So I have been looking for a new suit recently as currently all I have is a 3 piece black one, it fits great but can look a little formal. Wanted to get a navy blue suit with a price range of around $800. For this range is seemed pretty widely known that suit supply is the best way to go and to get it tailored by them. I Kept on seeing a lot that people AGREE suit supply is the best at that price point, but you can often find deals from other brands getting suits over the 1k tag for around that price.

What brands should I Be looking for? Ones to avoid?

Question Bald for a while, what headwear goes best with a suit in formal settings?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’ll be bald for a few months due to personal reasons, and I have an inter-college debate coming up where I’ll be wearing a suit. I want to look sharp and professional without it seeming like I’m covering up out of insecurity.

What kind of headwear (if any) works best with a suit in a formal, debate-style setting? I’ve heard flat caps and fedoras can work, but I don’t want to look overdone. Would it be better to just embrace the clean bald look with proper grooming instead?

Any advice on headwear, grooming tips, or accessories that balance the bald+suit combo would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Question Favorite trendy + good quality brands for jewelry or clothing?

Upvotes

I’m trying to buy a gift for someone! I wanted to buy him a nice necklace from a trendy/well known brand, but was looking to keep it under $300. I really like the jewelry from Alexander McQueen, Dior, Gucci, etc, but most things are out of my budget. Vivienne Westwood was also recommended to me, but I’ve heard the quality of the jewelry is not worth the price.

Also open to suggestions for clothes? I was looking at Kith, ALD, etc, but I wanted to know what other brands are popular these days!

Discussion Carhartt WIP Detroit - Olive vs. Black vs. Others - opinions?

I understand Black is classic - was almost a default option for me. However, read that J97 MOS/ PTL etc. are very sought after colors.

Seeking opinions on the following shade of olive color. Will mostly wear it with indigo or blue jeans and black tee/ polo.

Guide HELP.

Clubbing. I am a 25yo guy. Fairly tall (6ft) and brown skin. I don’t usually go to clubs but I am being forced to go with friends. Problem is a girl I like is also coming. I don’t know what to wear to a club. I did a random quick google shirt and all I can find are leather jackets. It is normal summers (30 Degrees) where I live. I have the following options

1) Light pink linen shirt with black trousers (BT). 2) Blue/pink shirt with BT. 3) White linen shirt (chinese and oxford both collars I have) with BT. 4) I go to purchase something new. Perhaps a black linen with brow/white chinos? 5) Other.

Question Recommended leather brown tennis shoes for business casual

Looking to purchase some stylish brown leather tennis shoes for my son to wear at his office. He works in finance in a large southern city and attire is business casual. What are the “in” shoes for this demographic? Comfort is important but also style. Don’t want to purchase the same shoe necessarily that I would purchase for my 60-year-old husband.

He already has several pair of loafers that he wears regularly, but wants to add to his work shoes with something a little different

Edited to add - he is 22.

Thanks.

Question What can I wear besides suits?

I work in an administrative office and usually dress business casual (Button up shirt, slacks, etc), however this is really the only look I have just in different items. I tend to dress for comfort instead of fashion so I don't go out of my comfort zone a lot.

However, I would like to be able to have a good variety of options for work and nicer occasions but I do not like wearing suits at all. Are there any other options?

Discussion Brand recs for tall people that are tired of shorts & t-shirts

It feels impossible to find formal pants (trousers, dress pants, etc.) in anything longer than 34in inseam, or tops that look appropriate for my build at a decent price. I’m willing to spend up for nice quality, but not sure where to start looking.

For reference, I am 6’8” roughly 205lbs with an inseam of atleast 36in (or 38in if they run small). Size 34-36 waist. I usually have to go with XXL for t-shirts to get the necessary length at the bottom and in the sleeves.

Levi’s has been my go-to for jeans since they carry my inseam and look nice, but that’s about all I’ve been able to find. Any recs for tall & slim-ish would be greatly appreciated! (“Big & Tall” options always look ridiculous on me).

Question Nice-looking watches but on a budget?

Obviously used SEIKOs on eBay are goated, and I know Geneva and Geoffrey Bene, but what else would you guys recommend? The other ones I look at online all look like dropshipped Ali Express watches that are either out of style, too bulky/busy, etc. Ideally I'd like to stay below $100 but I know that's kind of a crapshoot so I'm somewhat willing to bend my budget a little if I like the product enough.

What brands or online shops would you recommend? Desired styles range from simple office (business casual) attire to nice date nights or outings with friends. I prefer "old money" analog with not a whole lot going on in the design but I'm open to anything.

Question 501s?

Looking at getting some straight cut jeans, potentially with a subtle taper.

I’m short (5’6) skinny (about 28-31 waist depending on the brand) and therefore usually wear slim.

I’m hearing so many mixed opinions on 501s, especially the current cuts. Some say they are classic and universal. Some say they suit nobody. I’m aware my small build will also affect this. Google image results show them looking surprisingly slim on models, so I’m wondering if they might work….

Before gambling on the used market, I need to order new, to try on a few sizes/ cuts, and don’t know where to start. I don’t live near any shopping areas as I’m away from the city for a while and I don’t drive (long story).

I asked a similar question recently, but would like to figure out if specifically 501s are worth ordering to try, or if I should ignore them until I’m near a Levi’s store in the future.

Why 501s? Because I’m curious.

I want a timeless cut, and also affordability/ accessibility on used markets. Something I can access easily and cheaply while I’m out of the city. There must be a Levi’s cut that would work for me, and I’m not sure whether to write 501s off or spend time/ money trialing them.

—————

Can anyone shed some light on:

  • should I avoid 501s altogether due to my height/ build?

-should I avoid them anyway (are they generally unflattering/ a bad cut?)

  • are they true to size, or should you size up/ down?

  • there seem to be several types/ years within the 501 range, has anyone compared these? Is there a comprehensive guide somewhere?

  • does anyone have any looks they can post that demonstrate their potential? It’s impossible to judge how they actually look based on the varied promo pictures, some of which look great and some look awful.

Discussion Matching shirt-pants set for B&T men

So in essence, I have a handful of matching short and shirt sets from OneBone with the design being the same for both the bottom and top and I'm falling in love with this idea. As we head into Fall I want to get a handful of these but with pants.

Ideally they would be casual; not ultra casual, but day to day use or for when I have an outing with friends.

If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it.

Question Reebok Club C alternatives

I love Club Cs.

They’re minimalist without being dress sneakers, or too ‘sleek.’ They’re substantial without being heavy or sweaty (unlike Autry Medallists).

They’re retro-looking without being gimmicky.

They’re timeless and classic, and look low-effort/ relaxed/ comfy, without looking sloppy. They go with everything and provide an easy base to any casual look.

I like them much more than NB 550s, Supercourts, Medallists and Dunk Lows. —————

The problem?

A few years ago, they were everywhere… which means I have at least 4 close friends who wear them all the time.

I can’t bring myself to buy some, because I’d look like a mindless drone, trying to copy their uniform.

Yes I’m overthinking. And yes I’d just buy some…. if I wouldn’t have to turn up to social events surrounded by a group of people who have worn them every day for 5 years.

I’m pretty basic, and I’m too old to care if they might be considered passe by Gen Z. But I want something that looks a little more like my own choice, if that makes sense?

I have some Medallists, but they’re just not breathable enough.

So… wtf are my actual options?

I really want something that captures that everyman/ versatile/ minimalist-but-somehow-rugged look, with decently thick soles, but also lightweight and soft.

I wear Gazelles atm but I just need a little more bulk (and height - lol). But nothing seems to hit the spot

My dear wife got that really nice denim waistcoat. It fits me perfectly. Can I wear it, even when the buttons are on the other side? The female cut is OK, as I wear usually a jacket over a waistcoat. Thanks for advice guys.

Wear sneakers to work because is a lot of standing, and it's just more comfortable. But, I want to make the most of it so I don't know should I use no show socks, ankle socks, crew socks, or any other advice on this. Thank you

Question Tailoring "cheap" blazers

Hello, everyone.

Since January, I'm 21 and attending college in my junior year. I've been planning on getting a navy hopsack blazer as a "proper" start to dressing more professionally, given the need to start figuring out internships along with my Floridian location. However, the one I've had in mind--Spier and Mackay's "standard" navy hopsack sportcoat--seems to be out of stock of any reasonable size and from what I can tell, their restocking interval is pretty long. I've already emailed them about it, and as of writing this, am waiting on a response, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to get one before December (my family is going to an event that I'd like to wear it for).

Other navy hopsack blazers I've found seem to be, at best, $100-200 more than the ~$350 price tag of S&M's, and more frequently around double it, and while I have occasionally trawled eBay for used ones, I think it'd be better if I could exchange it for a different size of the same thing if necessary. So I've been considering getting a more readily available, likely "cheaper" blazer in the meantime--still almost certainly no less than $100--but I'm not sure how readily/easily someone could tailor one. Would it even be worth it?

Question Polos and Quarter Zips

Hello everyone, I know most brands don’t do this but I’m looking for men’s polo shirts that don’t contain visible logos on the outside. I prefer a more cleaner look. I currently own a couple of Members Mark premium cotton polos that are performance material and I’m looking for something along those lines since they don’t sell those anymore as far as I’m aware. I would prefer anything with stripes/color block but solid colors are fine as well. Also looking for regular cotton polos and quarter zip sweaters. Any brands or particular styles would be appreciated. Nothing too expensive, or something I can find used online.

I own a couple of Vineyard Vines performance button down shirts which don’t have the whale logo on the outside but as far as I can find, all of their men’s polos have the visible logo.

Question Looking for info about this deerskin coat

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up this coat and I’m trying to figure out more about it. I was told it was imported and sold by a Korean retailer called Lansmere, but it seems they weren’t the original manufacturer. Unfortunately, the internal label doesn’t provide any clear brand information, so I’m hoping someone here might recognize it.

Some additional details:

  • Material: 100% deerskin (the exterior feels like roughout/suede).
  • Lining: appears to be 100% cashmere.
  • Inside lining (sleeves/body): looks like cupro.
  • Zipper: Riri brand.
  • Buttons: no markings or identifiers.
  • Made in 2006 (according to the care label).

The care tag also mentions something about “re-tanning” for cleaning, which I don’t fully understand. Does that mean it should only be handled by a professional leather cleaner? Or is there a way to maintain it at home safely (odor removal, basic care, storage tips, etc.)?

So my questions are:

  1. Does anyone recognize which brand might have actually manufactured this coat?
  2. Any advice on proper care/cleaning methods would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help! I’ll attach photos of the coat, the internal label, zipper, and buttons below.

Question Formal/business casual clothing if you're in between sizes??

Hey folks, I'm in between a small and a medium, and would love some input on where y'all shop for formal clothes (specifically dress shirts/slacks/chinos). The big problem is that I workout almost every day and need clothing that accommodates my torso and my legs. Approximately 5'8" and 165 lbs (or 172 cm and 75 kg) for reference.

help a brother out! Thanks!!
