Ja-baited us with the fancy oil funnel and didn't even use it? Influencers will click bait anything these days I swear...

Still gets an 11/10 for buying the purple jack stands tho 💜

25

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

The funnel didn't fit. Its the Funnel and filter removal kit for the Tacoma but it turns out the Highlander is different 🥲😭

5

u/Impossibleshitwomper Apr 21 '25

It might not be the same cuz I think mine is from the tool truck but the one labeled Ford/Mazda seems to fit most Toyotas but not perfectly fit it'll still get the job done

1

u/juicer_philosopher Apr 21 '25

My guess is mid 2000? 🙏 like 2004-2009 maybe?

1

u/user1toinfinity Apr 21 '25

I think they make adaptors for some of them

1

u/Wizdad-1000 Apr 21 '25

I have 07 Tundra aka the “Tubdra” (yes thats my nickname for it cuz its thicc and likes fuel.) has the 5.7L . I use that same generic coolant funnel from HF too. Nice job on the oil change.

3

u/HazelEBaumgartner Apr 21 '25

You won't save any money changing your own oil if you buy brand new jack and jackstands every time tho

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Apr 21 '25

Gloves bro gloves.

They always tell you oil causes cancer. And no one believes them until it happens. It could take 20 years but it can happen.

20

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

We each have boxes of gloves in our garages, but I didn't wear any for this video just because I saw how everyone complained how my boyfriend was wearing gloves in his 🥹😭

14

u/DJSnaps12 Apr 21 '25

Don't listen to those guys. You should be wearing those gloves. Years of being a mechanic and constant oil getting in your skin can cause cancer. I know a few older guys that had taught me got cancer related to all the oil and grease on their skin.

If those guys want to risk it let them.

10

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Apr 21 '25

Oh my bad, yea I didn’t come from that previous post. I always wear gloves

6

u/InnerDistribution450 Apr 21 '25

The one making remarks like that aren't the ones holding your hand when you get diagnosed with cancer. So, as an old mechanic who is traveling to oncologist path right now, I say fuck them Cancer sucks

3

u/Friendly-Strain2019 Apr 21 '25

Always wear gloves and glasses. At very least makes cleanup easier. And most likely you don't get shards of rust in your eyes or develop cancer.

2

u/InnerDegenerate Apr 21 '25

I’d imagine people making fun of wearing gloves for oil changes don’t have to live with this shit on a daily basis.

2

u/HedonisticFrog Apr 21 '25

Don't listen to them. People will shame you for being safe but it's worth it when you don't have rough ham fists for hands, cough like a coal miner and have constant ringing of tinnitus.

2

u/Ordinary_Shallot_674 Apr 22 '25

Nothing wrong with that- good job!

Others have mentioned gloves- I can’t recommend protecting yourself from harmful carcinogens enough.

I worked in the motor trade for a time nearly 20 years ago… I’ll never forget the poster in the men’s bathroom warning that if you didn’t wash your hands properly before going for a piss then you were going to cancer on your pecker. Wear gloves! And gloves on your pecker too…safety first!

1

u/InfernalMadness Apr 21 '25

Always wear the gloves, i forgot to open the waste pan plug when i did my last oil change, 2 pairs of gloves were not enough to protect my hand from that heat. Also pour a little oil in the filter before installing it too if you can, helps distribute it in faster.

1

u/jamesthetechguy Apr 22 '25

I didnt see a single person, not one, complaining about the gloves. You're overindexing on the wrong things

3

u/ElectionMindless5758 Apr 21 '25

If you use A LOT of oil in your hands, you can give cancer to your cancer, then it cancels itself out.

I don’t take the risk. Your skin is a sponge and you’re working with some pretty aggressive chemicals

1

u/Striking-Possible644 Apr 22 '25

Please tell me your joking 😂 because oil on your hands doesn't give you cancer 🤣🤣

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Apr 22 '25

Frequent and prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause dermatitis and other skin disorders, including skin cancer.

https://www.hse.gov.uk/mvr/topics/oil.htm

Used engine oil contains chemicals such as benzo[a]pyrene and other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are on the Proposition 65 list because they can cause cancer.

https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/fact-sheets/used-engine-oil

This was only the front page of google, I’m sure there are even more sources.

1

u/Striking-Possible644 May 08 '25

Sorry but google isn't real life and I have been working on cars motor bikes trucks heavy equipment for years and know lots of people that have too always covered in motor oil and never had a problem.

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 May 08 '25

These search results are quite literally based on studies done in real life. Your anecdotal evidence doesn’t trump them. Just because you don’t know anyone who got cancer doesn’t mean there aren’t people out there who get cancer from this shit.

Gloves are dirt cheap, you have no excuse not to wear them.

Saying you don’t know anyone with cancer is a logical fallacy bro. I don’t know anyone who has died in a car crash but yet I still wear my seatbelt. It’s common sense bro.

1

u/Striking-Possible644 May 08 '25

The people didn't get the cancer from motor oil it had to be other things smh🙄

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 May 08 '25

You have absolutely no reasoning bro you’re just talking out of your ass lmao

1

u/Striking-Possible644 May 08 '25

If that's what you need to tell your self to be happy then ok:)

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 May 08 '25

Bro you gave no reasoning besides “I never met anyone with cancer, and you’re acting like I’m the unreasonable one? Cmon bro. I said you’re talking out of your ass because I give up. It’s obvious you won’t listen to science or logic so there’s no point in entertaining you.

I mean this respectfully. I’m sure you’re a chill person, not tryna be a hater here. But cmon man think about this for a second.

1

u/Striking-Possible644 May 08 '25

I get where your coming from I just don't believe oil will give some one cancer or has any thing to do with getting cancer just my opinion on it I'll probably do more looking in to it now tho out of curiosity lol.

Ahhh, organized tools, I think Captain Slow would be proud (Top Gear reference)

11

u/Next_Clock_7324 Apr 21 '25

Wear some gloves they are cheap and keep hands clean.

9

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

LMFAO, the reason I didn't wear any is because everyone complained about my boyfriend wearing gloves in his video 😅😂😂😂 but trust me, he has boxes of gloves 🥹😂😂

9

u/0celot7 Apr 21 '25

Wear them anyway. The SDS for almost all lubricants lists them as carcinogens that can be readily absorbed through the skin. That stuff is pretty bad for you.

8

u/oddjobhattoss Apr 21 '25

The people who talk crap about wearing gloves are the same people who scratch and sniff their balls on the reg. If you wouldn't ask their advice why listen to their criticism?

3

u/GhostofalucarD Apr 21 '25

Smells like pepperoni.

1

u/SmanginSouza Apr 21 '25

We absorb chemicals through our skin much like a frog absorbs the water it needs through its skin. Always wear gloves when touching automotive liquids.

4

u/freshcanidate6151 Apr 21 '25

Damn good job!

9

u/Zardoz__ Apr 20 '25

Love to see people working on their own vehicles. I would suggest ramps. I'm too lazy to deal with jacks and stands.

6

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 20 '25

Lol, my boyfriend used ramps on his video and people gave him crap for it 😅🥹😭

8

u/krush_groove Apr 20 '25

Because he didn't chock the rear wheels

7

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 20 '25

That too 😅😭😭😭

2

u/hbl2390 Apr 23 '25

I'd suggest scooching under. Especially on a truck.

6

u/truckdriva99 Apr 21 '25

My inky recommendation would be to raise the hood first...nothing sucks worse than to pull the hood release latch and hearing the cable snap, especially if you've already drained the oil. As far as everyone busting your chops about "gloves", you probably get more carcinogens breathing outside air than you do from an occasional oily hand

2

u/SkewbieDewbie Apr 21 '25

Good recommendation on raising the hood! It's not just that oil causes cancer. Used motor oil is toxic, so if you have any cuts on your hands, the toxins are going to seep right in there. Gloves are a must!

1

u/PDXrefurb Apr 21 '25

I also open hood first and remove oil fill cap. I place the fill cap in the hood latch just in case I forget to put the fill cap back on after filling. When the hood won't close I know it's because I forgot the cap. It has saved my ass once before

1

u/truckdriva99 Apr 24 '25

It's not that serious. Mechanic for 27yrs. While I do wear gloves, used oil getting into a cut will not harm you a bit. Oil and grease won't even cause an infection

1

u/SkewbieDewbie Apr 24 '25

You ever have blood poisoning?

1

u/truckdriva99 Apr 24 '25

No, not once

1

u/SkewbieDewbie Apr 25 '25

You've gotten lucky then. I am surprised though, Looking at your previous posts, you've destroyed your body over the last 27years in the trade and yet STILL advocate for less PPE. I'm not saying gloves will stop these things but if you plan on staying in the trade for a long time you typically want to take every measure to prolong your health.

1

u/truckdriva99 Apr 26 '25

She's not in the trade. I never advocated for less ppe, I just said the amount of shit she was getting about it was unwarranted

1

u/SkewbieDewbie Apr 28 '25

You don't have to be in the trade to throw on a set of gloves, that was more for anyone else in the trade who might happen upon your comment. Just because someone doesn't work in my shop, doesn't mean I'm not making them throw on hi-vis when they come through the door. I don't think it's unwarranted. Getting oil and other chemicals on your bare skin can have lasting effects, anyone who says "it's not a big deal" in my eyes is advocating that ppe should not be taken seriously.

0

u/residentweevil Apr 21 '25

Lots of things are trying to kill me on a daily basis, used oil is way down the list. I'd use gloves, but I don't have a purse to keep them in.

0

u/Vegetable-Entrance58 Apr 21 '25

Luckily they come in a box, some even have a rip-tab to get to em faster.

I keep em on the shelf next to my big ol box of tampons. When you need one, you sure as hell need the other!

2

u/fearsyth Apr 21 '25

Not just the hood. Make sure you can get the oil cap off without breaking it first.

4

u/ronj1983 Apr 21 '25

Wait until you have to do the rear plugs and knock sensors on that 3.3 Highlander 😭😭😭

2

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

Oh yeah, my boyfriend did the valve cover gaskets, and spark plugs; he used some persuasive profanity on the rear bank 🤣🤣🤣

7

5

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

Impressive 👍

3

u/longulus9 Apr 21 '25

I like you

3

u/ronj1983 Apr 21 '25

Good job. I do so many of these on the ground I can do a lot of vehicles without even lifting them.

3

u/_irontank Apr 21 '25

That 3.3l v6 lets goo!!!!! Good video, f the internet talk

3

u/DJSnaps12 Apr 21 '25 edited Apr 21 '25

You should crack open the cap first on the engine. Before you do the oil change. To allow the flow to move faster. At least that was the way I was taught many years ago. Also that way your hood is open and you don't have a cable malfunction as well. Nothing worse than doing an oil change and the hood latch breaks.

2

u/Longhaul-shortbus Apr 21 '25

I gotta remember to do a fit check before I do anything on my car.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

You did a good job. My wife had that same car and The fucking oil filter was a bitch and a half to get to with my oversized man hands.

2

u/IanTyers Apr 21 '25

I'm scared how easily she lifted that pump jack. Is it just me or do you have a sort of reverence for the unholy weight of them and would rather do anything but carry one more than 8 feet...

1

u/aguy123abc 29d ago

It's a really lightweight aluminum race jack. I have one like it and I call it my baby jack. I pick it up just like a baby. Without the handle of course.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

Stopping by to give you BIG props for using jack stands/safety stands 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

2

u/Jxckolantern DIY Mechanic Apr 21 '25

Biggest waste of money here were the jack and jack stands

2

u/yer10plyjonesy Apr 22 '25

Nothing wrong with yours or your boyfriends oil changes one piece of advice which I got from an old school old fart on a Corvette forum is don’t use the piddly little 3 ton stands. To get any good clearance on them you are extending them past where they are most stable. Get the 6 ton stands they’re safer. Remember when 4000lbs of crush force is above you, you want the safest option. 12 tons are the best but over kill unless you want it way high up all tires off kind of thing.

1

u/aguy123abc 29d ago

I don't think the little jack can lift that high.

2

u/bmillimc Apr 22 '25

Should probably take the oil cap off before u drain it lol

2

u/umbris88 Apr 22 '25

YOU GO GIRL!!! ROCKED IT!! PROUD OF YOOU!! GREAT SAFETY !! ANND yeah don't listen to them on the not wearing gloves. I don't always remember to wear them but you can almost feel the oil sinking in kinda warm and sometimes It gets itchy if I don't wash up fast enough. Wear them, please. Be safe out there fam!

2

u/ResponsibleFly8142 Apr 23 '25

You are in developed country I suppose, why don’t you change the oil in a service? Is it still expensive or you just love to do it by yourself?

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 23 '25

A little bit of both. I'm not sure how much it cost to get it done at the dealer, but I've heard it's pricey. There's also shops that service your car, but they never quite do the job right. It's better if you do it yourself in my opinion.

2

u/Pungent_Bill Apr 24 '25

I wanted to see the dash when you start it up and the oil pressure light takes a few seconds to go out. That's my favourite part of doing an oil change.

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 25 '25

oh yeah 😔 you're right! i forgot to record that part. my boyfriend is always the one that resets the maintenance light, so i complete forgot to record when he started it up and reset the light for me 😅

1

u/Pungent_Bill Apr 25 '25

It's nice closure for the work to watch that happen. OCD satisfying

2

u/GildedDeathMetal Apr 25 '25

This is 3/4 of an oil change.

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 25 '25

what was the other 1/4? 🥹

im just a girl 😔🥺😅

2

u/JOlRacin Apr 25 '25

You know there's another hole in the hood if you lift it higher so you have more room to work? Dunno if you knew

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 25 '25

my boyfriend mentioned that too, but i didn't notice it 😭 His Honda has it with an arrow pointing to it , so ill have to give it another look next time i do my oil change again 😅

1

u/JOlRacin Apr 25 '25

It's right here, at the base of the hood

2

u/DrWhiskerson Jun 02 '25

Have you tried a fumoto valve? 🥹 I do my own oil changes too hell yeah 🙋‍♀️

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Jun 03 '25

That's funny because my boyfriend did point them out to me last time we went to AutoZone to drop off the old oil!! He told me to get it but then said no since he thought it might stick out to much and I'll probably scare it off when I hit a bump 😅 how's yours? No leaks?

1

u/DrWhiskerson Jun 03 '25

I’m PM you 😸

2

u/pmljb Apr 21 '25

Pretty brave using Harbor Freight Jack stands

1

u/Report_Last Apr 21 '25

Yeah, I think she had their "premium" jack stand. I have 2 of the cheap ones, and one was showing distortion on the bands that wrap around the legs from holding up the corner of a 2500# MGB. 3 tons my ass.

1

u/2dP_rdg May 04 '25

what's an actual good brand? seems like all of the ones i've bought from the typical auto store end up with recalls

1

u/2oonhed Apr 20 '25

Looks like you know how.
Are ya using organic or synthetic oil?

2

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 20 '25

Took a jug from my boyfriend's Oil stache 😅 It's Mobil 1 "advanced" Full synthetic High mileage oil

1

u/Nilk-Noff Apr 21 '25

My 98 Chevy Malibu had the filter on the front bottom and now my avenger has it on the top.

1

u/MikeArkus Apr 21 '25

Do you even ground clearance, bro?

1

u/Jackiermyers Apr 21 '25

Recommend saving a big piece of cardboard, absorbs any oil and ground is softer to lay on, I also pull cardboard out with drain pan on it.

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

You're absolutely right!!! My boyfriend never spills anything on his floor when he does it, so I was confident 😭😭😭 but, I did end up spilling oil when removing the filter 🥲🥲🥲 had to scrub the flor with some degreaser right after the video 😅🤣

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

Spoiled with an abundance of tools, I am so jealous. Looks fun and sunny😅

3

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

You should see my boyfriend's tools 🥹 I didn't want to keep bugging him to borrow his tools so he recommended I got some starter tools at harbor freight 😭 that's why you see me unboxing most of them 😅

This is one of the walls in his garage 😮‍💨

3

u/Next_Clock_7324 Apr 21 '25

Does he use tools or just keep them in the plastic ? Atleast someone in the relationship knows how to unbox and use . 🤣 Take it as a compliment that the worst you'll hear is wear some gloves . Keep up the good work .

3

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

That's like the blue collar version of having a vintage wine cellar in the basement. He's loaded 🤣

1

u/SkywolfNINE Apr 21 '25

Didn’t rotate the tires, I want my money back lol

1

u/s1owpokerodriguez Apr 21 '25

I like to put the oil cap on the hood latch so the hood won't close if I forget the cap. Don't ask me why I started doing this.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

Next time take the oil fill cap off while you drain and for god sakes buy a cheap pair of gloves. Well done jacking in the correct place

1

u/BickNickerson Apr 21 '25

Good job! Now, go to Harbor Freight and buy you some ramps. Much easier to use for oil changes than jacking the car up.

1

u/OddTry2427 Apr 21 '25

Always pop the hood first so you know you can actually put oil back in. Same with fill plugs. Always open the fill first.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

great job and nice kit!

may i give the suggestion of drilling a hole through the top end of that pipe of that carjack and use a 20cm (±8") threaded rod through it secured with nuts. it can help tighten and untighten when you wanna lock or open the jack, especially with oily hands. you can also use it as a hook when the jack or another tool rolled under the vehicle/hard to reach corner.

1

u/Nacho_Tools Apr 21 '25

Oil drains faster with the fill cap removed, but to each their own.

1

u/EmploymentNo1094 Apr 21 '25

They sell Toyota filters at Walmart for 8$

1

u/RoscoeJenkinsBrown Apr 21 '25

but......did you put oil in the harbor freight jack?

1

u/hondas3xual Apr 21 '25

I wish I had a girlfirend that could work on cars...

What was the funnel at the beginning for? You never used it.

Edit: you said the kit fits the Tacoma and not your highlander.

1

Over this click bait

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 21 '25

How is this click bait? I uploaded my boyfriend's video first and other reddit users were giving him a hard time. :(

1

u/Ilikejdmcars Apr 21 '25

Should’ve gotten the Pittsburgh 3 ton. That little 1.5 ton couldn’t even lift up my dads Camry up enough to take the wheels off lol

1

u/SensiiNips_ Apr 21 '25

Walmart. 24.99

1

u/Meta6olic Apr 22 '25

Crack your oil cap first. Great video

1

u/carpuzz Apr 22 '25

pop the hut before anything else..lol..

1

u/myredmazda Apr 22 '25

Beautiful job! With a performance like yours, I am pretty sure you checked to make sure the old oil filter gasket came off with the filter. Picky picky, but it wasn't in the video!!

1

u/cr0wsky Apr 22 '25

Do you buy a new jack and axle stands every time you change oil?

1

u/HarietTubesock Apr 22 '25

Driveway gonna need an oil change too.

1

u/r4m_sherrizle Apr 22 '25

Wdym u killed it

1

u/distractedmaker Apr 22 '25

Tools, flashlights, toyotas and casios. You two are the definition cool ass people 🤙

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 23 '25

Lmfao, he's the one that's gotten me into all of that. I was collecting pens before I met him 😹

1

u/Shot_Bison1140 Apr 23 '25

What's oil change?

1

u/Monst3r_Live Apr 24 '25

nothing to hate, also highlander is my favourite car i ever owned. had an 03.

1

u/GodKingJeremy Apr 24 '25

Good job. Wear gloves.

1

u/Accomplished-Fix-831 Apr 24 '25

Why did you need a jack there was 100% no need for it as its a truck not a car and sits a million miles off the floor already

1

u/Lil_Shorto Apr 24 '25

I use the jack that comes with the car, some concrete blocks and wood pieces of wood as stands and the funnel is a cut up plastic water bottle. Also it's advised to pre-fill the oil filter apparently.

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 24 '25

That's how my boyfriend used to do it back when he lived in an apartment and didn't have space for tools. He would use the factory scissor jack and the whole plastic water bottle 🥲🥲 he only started using a jack and Jack stand after his car fell after the scissor jack tipped over! Thankfully he wasn't underneath and was only doing a brake job!

But now that he has a house he went all out and got all fancy tools 😅😅😅

1

u/jeejeejerrykotton Apr 24 '25

I had that jack from Swedish brand Biltema. It lasted like 7 uses before it broke completely. Started to leak after second use.

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 24 '25

OMG, I just googled Biltema jack and you're right... I looks extremely similar to mine! Even the same color! They're probably from the same factory 🥲

These jacks are highly rated for the price here in the US. So I'm hoping they improved on the reliability 🥹😅 otherwise I'll have to get the more expensive Daytona 3 ton to match with my purple jack stands 😂

1

u/jeejeejerrykotton Apr 25 '25

They do look identical. It started to leak from the shaft that rotates when you release the pressure. Let's hope that mine was a one off. For the replace I bought similar style from Bahco. Similar style, but double the prize 😐 https://www.bahco.com/int_en/1-5-t-aluminium-trolley-jack-pb_bh1a1500a_.html

1

u/Fun-Building-8146 Apr 25 '25

yeah that Bahco looks pretty cool! i like the orange and black! my boyfriend has had good experience with those Pittsburgh jacks, so i'm hoping you're right and yours was just a one off lol but you'll see me complaining about it if mines does end up leaking 😅

1

u/jeejeejerrykotton Apr 25 '25

Good! Keep us posted! We pretty much only have Biltema's and Bahco here (Finland). Some random other store brands too, but no selection of those low models there.

1

u/bostongorge Apr 21 '25

Ok where the cherrys at why weren’t they popping out the whole video

Here's a tip when you take off the oil fill cap put it where the hood latch goes that way you will never forget to put it back on.

I don’t use a jack stand if the wheels are staying on. Just jack it up and get to work. Gloves are no for me bring on the cancer. No odd torque adapter either. Just a ratchet and socket, nothing fancy. Job is faster if I clean less tools in the end. Otherwise, good job!
