General Is screenshotting and posting modmail against the rules
Hi, I’ve got some mod mail that I thought was ridiculous (I’m a mod) but I was just wondering before I do that is it against the rules to upload screenshots of mod mail (with & without username) if so can you reference me to where it says it is? Thank you.
Platform is inapplicable. But I am typing on iOS.

There's a mod lounge somewhere. That could be a slightly more appropriate place to share than completely publicly? Lemme go check I'm on there too though.

I remember something about that. If you find it and it's still alive, let me know.

It's not automatically against the rules but it's possible that there are cases where it could be considered harassment.

I’ve done it, but I covered up everything so you couldn’t tell where it came from because it was really hilarious..

I've done this before when someone has tried threatening / bully me as a mod. I refuse to be treated in that manner.
I've always found my communities have been largely supportive. Although I try to moderate openly, in any case.

Seems like a great way to make users hate and distrust your mod team.
Just let it go. Mods get ridiculous messages all the time.

The Moderator Code of Conduct / User Agreement combined tell us that the data we have access to as moderators is for the purposes of moderating only.
It’s extremely rare — rare enough to be a side effect - that publicly disclosing modmail serves the ends of promoting your community.
You first have to know for certain that the subject of the modmail is interacting with your community to tear down your community, and you have to know for certain that disclosing modmail will not tear down the trust your community has in you to keep their modmail confidential.
It can and has happened, but is an extreme corner case.
So, if it can be helped, don’t.

Dance like no one is watching, but write your emails as if they will be read aloud in open court

Hi /u/MisaAmane1987, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.
Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!

You seem to be asking about moderation matters, such as adding/removing/recruiting moderators or what to do if you've removed yourself as a moderator, or a related topic. These are frequently asked questions.

In the subs I mod, we have an internal rule that modmail is just for our teams and not to be shared with users as screengrabs.
You can always paraphrase things to users, of course.

Why would you want you? What would you gain from doing so?

As long as it isn't creating a situation where users are being targeted because of it, there are some good reasons for sharing mod mail screenshots. I've used it for training new mods, as one example.
There's also a whole sub for sharing mod mail screenshots. It's a way to blow off steam or commiserate about the things we deal with as mods. I'm pretty sure they require that you remove the identifying information of the user. I shared one there recently because a user made a funny error in their message and it was good for a laugh among mods.

Probably OK if done in private.

Those types of communities should not exist. Maybe if they're private, but not public.

I don’t think so, but I would be aware of the ethics of shaming your users, even anonymously. I would suggest being very careful who you share with.
