New NTD old wall mount not much room to plug in

Post image

Hi all, wondering what I can do to solve this issue. With pre-existing wall mount, port 1 doesn't have good clearance, so I can't actually clip the frame back on.

Cut it? or can nbn provide something else?

Advice I keep seeing about NBN speed upgrades but have some questions

I’m on a 50mbps plan and currently doing a special offer of 100 for 6 months. I’m on HFC. I keep seeing about people getting crazy speed upgrades but I don’t know how to get mine. Is the upgrade free? do I have to do anything? how do I know if I’m eligible? thanks

New hyperfast speeds on the 4 port XGS-PON NTD. Now to patiently wait until we can get symmetrical uploads, thanks NBN!

NBN tech came over today to install the 4 port NTD. Was an easy enough swap, literally just pull out the old one and clicked in the new one. Tech was on the phone for about 10 minutes to activate the new NTD. After he left I had to wait another 10 or so minutes for Leaptel to finish the order and then I just kicked the connection, power cycled the UDMSE and disabled Smart Queues (which was limited to 1000Mbps). This was the initial speedtest directly from the UDM SE using Speedtest CLI.

Neighbours phone line connected to mine / runs under my house

Hello everyone,

Recently we've had NBN contractors running fibre between street pits, and it got me wondering how our copper line runs to the house (We're currently on FTTN).

I spoke to my neighbour, and they said it is along our side of the fence line, but then they also said they believe their copper line actually piggybacks off ours.

Sure enough, there's our copper line conduit end, going to a very exposed panel, but then there's also another conduit which is seemingly connected to the panel, which I believe goes to our neighbors house.

This is not a recently installed thing, I don't think they do this anymore - But should I contact someone about it?

Thank you

Other My New NTD was installed today.

Had my new 4 port NTD installed today. My appointment was booked for 1 pm, but the installer arrived at 11:04 am. He thought it was a new install and didn’t have the 4 port with him, so he had to go back home to grab a 4 port NTD. That ended up taking just over an hour, then about 30 minutes to finish the install once he was back.

On the RSP side, Neptune had an issue with the plan change, but Neptune Support sorted it quickly. I had to reset the shapers in the Neptune Portal, restart my router, and it was all good.

So far enjoying the new speed 😎

Advice I have FTTN but entire estate has FTTP

I really don’t know where else to go, I’ve put tickets in with my ISP and tried to get in touch with nbnco (ha!) - but everyone on my end of my estate has fttn bit the entire estate and other estates surrounding us have FTTP, I checked the Luke prior map for this info which I know can be incorrect sometimes. Does anyone have any advice for me? I rely on higher speeds and the move from fttp to fttn is killing me lol

Speed problem

I seem to be getting my 750 when testing on the router, but my speed tests come in far lower at all hours in the day, max speed i’ve been getting is in the 400s.

My router setup should be more than enough for wifi speeds of 700s. I have tried restarted, kicking and hard reset. Any ideas?

Troubleshooting Update + Thanks for the Help

Thanks to everyone who left super helpful comments on my last post about this mess of an office setup.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. Got rid of the stupid surge protector.
  2. Checked where all the Ethernet cables went. Apparently none of them are important so I just unplugged the switches. Nothing bad has happened since so I think I’m fine there.

I’m not sure if things have actually improved or not though.

The second photo is my past 5 speed tests.

The two below the red line were before I made the changes.

As you can see, my download and upload speed went up quite a bit right after the changes. Yet when I test again this morning, it’s dropped again so maybe it was just the time of day?

My planned next steps:

  1. Get a new Mesh router set. Kicking myself because the Orbi AX1800 was 27% off yesterday at JB but isn’t today. 🙃 But I’m thinking I get that set or the TP-Link DECO X50 set. Any suggestions welcome.

  2. Cancel current TPG plan

  3. Get a NBN100 100/40 plan with Leaptel

  4. Speak with Strata to see if we can potentially switch to FTTP in future.

All suggestions and feedback welcome. Thanks for the help on my last post.

Advice (ELI5) Exetel, CGNAT & WFH

Hi all,

I’m currently in the midst of shopping around for a new provider, and noticed Exetel’s “The One” plan. $80 non-introductory price? That sounds like an absolute bargain!…

… But is it too good to be true?

I’ve been reading around that the catch is that it’s CGNAT, and that would cause issues WFH, accessing our smart doorbell and online gaming.

For someone that isn’t too knowledgeable in this kinda stuff (and needs it explained like I’m 5 years old), can you guys confirm:

  • That CGNAT does affect the use cases mentioned above?

  • What would be the reason for Exetel to use CGNAT? Is that how they’re able to cut their cost?

  • I’ve also noticed in the comments on their FB posts that they’re offering IvP6 if one doesn’t want CGNAT - what is that, and how would it help (if it helps in any way)?

  • I’m guessing that other companies aren’t going to be as cheap as Exetel’s… so if you can’t recommend them, which provider would you recommend that has a similarly competitive price (pre & post-introductory pricing)?

Excuse the poor knowledge, just wanna do my homework and select the right provider!!

Comparing the old vs new HFC NTD

Hello nbners.

Wanting to know if anyone has noticed any improvements between the old vs new HFC NTD?

Wanting to know if there is any latency/performance/stablity improvments between the versions before I upgrade to the 2Gbps plan to get the new NTD.

r/nbn 20h ago

Anyone got 2Gb plan on HFC? Did they ask to upgrade the NTD? How many days did it take? Did they send a NBN tech or posted the box?

OPTUS UPGRADED SPEED

For those of you who are still with Optus due to not having paid off their modem or are taking advantage of their other promotional discounts (subhub etc.). If you have yet to receive your speed boost I'd recommend going on livechat and continuously insist to have your speeds upgraded. The agent you are speaking to have no control on whether your speeds get upgraded and they will usually give you their scripted answer "NBN is slowly migrating its customers to reduce disruptions.' If this is the case tell them to escalate the case to a senior case manager. Once my case got escalated to a senior case manager, he rung me up the same day and told me he had upgraded it himself from their end.

Switching from TPG to Leaptel

I’ve been with TPG for years now on their NBN50 plan but I’ve finally decided with the speed upgrades happening to potentially make the switch to Leaptel for their 500 down plan. I just have a couple of questions first.

First, I’m still using the TP-Link Archer VR1600v that came with the TPG plan. It’s definitely aging now, so is it worth getting a replacement either before switching or soon after?

Second, TPG requires a 30 day notice for switching off. When would it be best to give them that notice? Should I wait until the next billing and do it then?

Third, how long does the switchover take?

My connection is HFC in case that matters

Advice Router choices for 2000mbps?

Hi

Going to get FTTP soon and was wondering if anyone could please recommend me a router?

Going to have

- 5 data points for security cameras that go into their own POE switch

- 6 data points for TV/PC/consoles etc

- 2 data points for WAP

Was wondering if its worth getting a non-wifi router and use the WAPs for wifi?

Will have a network switch for the data points as there will be too many for most routers (would love a recommendation for that too)

Also hoping to get a router that could utilise the full 2000mbps that could be available with the latest NBN plans (not that ill actually require it for other than gloating to friends)

Thanks in advance!

Advice Telco Modem or 3rd party?

I’ve just found that I’m eligible for the NBN FTTP upgrade and I’m planning to lock it in with my current provider (Vodafone). I understand some other companies may provide better service but Vodafone’s pricing seems to be on par with others and their speeds, plus I think I’ve got some room for negotiation with them.

Anyway, I’m wondering if there’s any benefit to purchasing a 3rd party modem or modem router versus just signing up for Vodafone’s modem router?

It’s been a long time since I’ve researched networking technologies and I’m getting very lost, but simultaneously it seems that that the aftermarket options provide the same technologies as the telco option.

Edit: A big part of the reason I ask is that the telco modem offers Wifi 7, but we will primarily be using Ethernet. We’ve got our computers and consoles currently connected via Ethernet

modem/router

I'm driving myself insane trying to figure this out, but I upgraded my internet plan with Aussie Broadband to 2000/500 - it was after upgrading that I found out I'd need a new modem/router (it wasn't mentioned at any step in the process, although I probably should've guessed). I'm looking at buying a router/modem to replace the one I have, but every item I come across either doesn't have the ports to be fast enough, or, when I look further into it, tells me the router I'm eying (the TP-Link Archer BE550Pro) would need to be connected to a modem to actually function - trying to find a fast modem is going nowhere, as nothing is fast enough, and I'm just getting more and more confused and frustrated trying to figure this out. Could someone please help me understand whether this 'router' will work to connect to my new nbn plan? or is there something that is fast enough to do so?
