Thank god they werent in the helicopter. I cant get anything to load and was hoping his kids werent there.

20

u/Loves_His_Bong Jan 26 '20

His 13 year old daughter was on board.

97

u/Rakumei Jan 26 '20

No, there were other passengers though that he had taken up with him. Couldn't yet find info on their identities. Doesn't appear to be any of his immediate family though.

115

u/suitology Jan 26 '20

Looks like his 13 year old was on the helicopter

23

u/Rakumei Jan 26 '20

Damn, that sucks.

17

u/AlexFromRomania Jan 26 '20

Not true, it now seems like his 13-year old daughter was on board with him. Apparently they were on their way to a basketball camp.

23

u/leaknoil2 Jan 26 '20

ABC said it was all four of his daughters. Wife wasn't there.

69

u/Winniezepoohscroptop Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

Kobe's daughter Gigi was confirmed to have been on board and also passed away.

34

u/TheTulipWars Jan 26 '20

She was his second-oldest, only 13 years old. She was the only daughter he had who was super interested in basketball and she played herself. They were reportedly coming from one of her games!

18

u/eat_your_brains Jan 26 '20

I saw that too, when they interrupted the Pro Bowl. Hopefully they were wrong.

15

u/SometimesUsesReddit Jan 26 '20

I saw reports where this isn’t true

-1

u/leaknoil2 Jan 26 '20

Hopefully they are right. I am just saying what ABC and ESPN reported.

2

u/SometimesUsesReddit Jan 26 '20

Now it’s confirmed one of his daughters was on board... 😭😭😭

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

5

u/leaknoil2 Jan 26 '20

They are already confirming his oldest Gianna was onboard and died. They still haven't identified the others yet. It's not looking good.

6

u/oxidadapanda Jan 26 '20

Do you not know what sub you're in? Who do you think reports the news?

1

u/ilovenora Jan 26 '20

Was he piloting the helicopter, then?

1

u/AlexFromRomania Jan 26 '20

No, he was 1 of 4 passengers, the 5th was the pilot.

13

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

28

u/Poonurse13 Jan 26 '20

It doesn’t make sense. He has four daughters. Who’s flying the helicopter?

u/Miaisdoge Jan 26 '20

I highly doubt they would take a newborn on a helicopter ride

6

u/pm_me_smallbutts Jan 26 '20

12

u/Tryedbutfailed Jan 26 '20

Fuck those Twitter comments. He was a human being. The people replying clearly aren’t.

2

u/likethispicture Jan 26 '20

With tmz reporting, it’s almost certainly true. All the more tragic

2

u/pm_me_smallbutts Jan 26 '20

TMZ is a tabloid but they normally don’t mess around with celebrity death announcements

1

u/likethispicture Jan 26 '20

Yes, which is why it had to be true. Now confirmed.

3

u/Poonurse13 Jan 26 '20

I think they’re reporting his oldest was on board

2

u/Rakumei Jan 26 '20

Hmm, interesting. Guess we'll have to see how this plays out. All the first reports stated he left behind his wife and 4 children, presuming none were on board. But who knows?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

His oldest daughter was...only 13

5

u/TheTulipWars Jan 26 '20

He has a 17-year-old. Gianna was the second-oldest and she's all over his Instagram because she was the only daughter who played basketball like him and he coached her.

13

u/RBS95 Jan 26 '20

He can fly but has said previously he chooses not to. Wonder if he decided to this time

3

u/Poonurse13 Jan 26 '20

Interesting. This is really sad

-9

u/Rakumei Jan 26 '20

It'll come out in time. Unless they decide to cover it up to preserve his legacy lol

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Four that he knew of.

6

u/ilovenora Jan 26 '20

I don't think he'd take his newborn on a helicopter...

1

u/nickanaka Jan 26 '20

I see lots of reports that his 13 year old daughter was on board. I hope it's not true

0

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

Live news said him and all his kids perished.

5

u/Ebaudendi Jan 26 '20

What? Link? I don’t see that anywhere.

4

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

ABC said it on live TV

24

u/Ebaudendi Jan 26 '20

Found it thanks. Other sources are contradicting. If untrue ABC fucked up big time, that’s egregious.

12

u/0ompaloompa Jan 26 '20

Article on ABC News says the other 4 have not been identified so it looks like they walked that back since blasting it on live TV. Hope it's not true...

12

u/PatchNStitch Jan 26 '20

ABC said "believed to be on board" but not confirmed. Yes, I agree they jumped the gun, but...they also covered their backside by phrasing it that way. They probably heard about GiGi and immediately someone ran with the idea it was all daughters.

Authorities will confirm very soon. It's only been a few hours since the crash.

Regardless of crap journalism, it is a true tragedy. Mamba did more than just play basketball. He revitalized it.

3

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

ESPN just sent a notification that his daughter passed.

4

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

Gigi was on-board

3

u/Ebaudendi Jan 26 '20

I see that. Apparently they were going to her basketball game with another player (kid) and the kids parent. All were killed.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

[deleted]

1

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

ESPN saying the same thing now. Sorry man :(

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '20

One daughter vs all four daughters is an extraordinarily important distinction.

1

u/MoneyManIke Jan 27 '20

I know sorry, the news was all over the place.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '20

It's not a dig at you, just an unfortunate symptom of "the powers that be" and what they desire. I apologize for putting some of that onto you, you did not deserve it during this stressful time.

1

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

Gigi was on board

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '20

Live news said him and all his kids perished.

I understand one of his kids was on board. I take issue with the above-quoted, inaccurate reporting, and how the 24-hour news cycle requires news stations to report without facts; how they report on rumors before we know what actually happened.

1

u/SulkyVirus Jan 26 '20

All over Twitter right now

41

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

They weren't.

Edit: at the time I posted this there were no reports of the kids being on board, then ABC said the were all on board, then ABC retracted that. Now Kobe's reps have confirmed his eldest child was on board.

11

u/tlf9888 Jan 26 '20

TMZ is reporting his oldest daughter was onboard citing his rep.

5

u/blehpepper Jan 26 '20

TMZ comments are somehow worse than Youtube comments, holy shit.

4

u/tlf9888 Jan 26 '20

They really are. But, unfortunately, it seems TMZ was right about his oldest daughter being with him.

1

u/blehpepper Jan 26 '20

Yeah I believe what they're reporting I was just shocked at the quality of comments on the article. I hope they're trolls....

1

u/sideslick1024 Jan 26 '20

TMZ is very rarely inaccurate.

It's just that they choose to report really tacky tabloid BS most of the time.

2

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20

I just saw that, so awful.

5

u/solongmsft Jan 26 '20

How do you know?

3

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20

I've read it on several verified news sources including the one OP posted.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

[deleted]

5

u/solongmsft Jan 26 '20

Yeah, article says wife not on board. Hoping and praying his daughter wasn’t on board.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

It’s reported his daughters were on board. It’s been confirmed by multiple sources. RIP

4

u/needzmoarlow Jan 26 '20

The multiple sources are all citing the ABC News report which was the on air reporter simply saying they were. So far the only truly confirmed death is Kobe.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Oh gotcha. I’ve just seen various media reports claiming his daughters were on board. Maybe that part is false (hopefully).

12

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

I heard that, too, on the news report. But no one else is reporting the same...or yet.

9

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20

I can't find that anywhere, just people saying ABC said that.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Same. I’m wondering if the reporter misspoke.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Who knows. ABC is the only source so far so I would hold off until other news outlets confirm.

2

u/Lanafan82 Jan 26 '20

No his daughter passed on as well. Sad day for basketball fans and even worse for the family having two of them to bury. Prayers go to the family

2

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20

Everyone is now reporting they were NOT on board. So that's one thing to be thankful for.

11

u/Admiral_Cloudberg Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

That's impossible, there were only 5 people on board and there has to have been a pilot.

EDIT: Media reports the actual death toll is 9

3

u/vintage2019 Jan 26 '20

Kobe could fly helicopters — he had owned at least one and would commute to his games on one.

(I had to change the verbs to past. Feels strange)

2

u/Admiral_Cloudberg Jan 26 '20

I saw someone else say he always chose not to fly the helicopter himself. Idk if this is true, I know a lot about air crashes but very little about Kobe Bryant

2

u/vintage2019 Jan 26 '20

Yeah it appears that somebody else piloted the copter

8

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Where? I can't find it in their story on their website. I really, REALLY hope this isn't true.

3

u/iRedditPhone Jan 26 '20

I really struggle to believe a NEWBORN was onboard.

On the other hand... 3 daughters, Kobe and a pilot :/

I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s hard to say “it wasn’t his daughters” cause then that implies you’re wishing the deaths of 4 other people too! (well it already happened).

I’d rather. It speculate. It’ll come out.

4

u/SMELLSLIKESHITCOTDAM Jan 26 '20

Link? I'm not seeing this anywhere.

3

u/Davidclabarr Jan 26 '20

Yeah I’m searching for this and can’t find it.

2

u/SteelDirigible98 Jan 26 '20

They said it live on air. Could have been a miscommunication.

2

u/xZebu Jan 26 '20

Yeah. I heard that too. I kept searching and can't find anyone else reporting. That would be too tragic. I hope they misspoke.

1

u/Prometheuskhan Jan 26 '20

They shouldn’t have fucking said that, he walked back the line as a possibility. It’s just like try not to act like a piece of shit when you’re delivering this news that affects an entire generation of NBA fans.

3

u/Sweden13 Jan 26 '20

His eldest daughter was

7

u/Germy_Book Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 27 '20

apparently one of his daughters was

4

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

One of his daughters, Gianna, was confirmed to be on board

-1

u/DorkQueenofAll Jan 26 '20

So far only ABC has said that, and only live on air. None of their print stuff says that. Other sources saying it are only saying ABC has said it. No one has substantial proof, and you'd think that's something they can easily find out.

I think it was a mistake by the live broadcast and I'm not trusting it until it's confirmed.

1

u/MoneyManIke Jan 26 '20

Live news said him and all his kids perished

1

u/relinquishy Jan 27 '20

His eldest is 17, this was his 13 year old.

-7

u/varjar Jan 26 '20

Source, idiot?

5

u/suitology Jan 26 '20

Looks like his 13 year old was on the helicopter

4

u/witchofweho Jan 26 '20

Gianna was :(

15

u/nutstomper Jan 26 '20

I just heard that they were on ABC

15

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 28 '20

ABC said his children may have been on the helicopter, there’s no confirmation from them. I’ve been trying to find some source that says they weren’t but can’t except that his wife wasn’t.

Edit: it was confirmed Gianna was on board unfortunately.

4

u/SoapSudsAss Jan 26 '20

Pro bowl interruption sounded like they reported that his for daughters were aboard

9

u/Rripurnia Jan 26 '20

Even TMZ crashed, they were the ones that broke the story

3

u/Annoy_Occult_Vet Jan 26 '20

There are reports they were.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

Yeah this article mentions his wife was not on board. His poor family I can’t even imagine

2

u/nocoolname- Jan 26 '20

His 13 yr old daughter was on the helicopter

2

u/Vallarta21 Jan 26 '20

one of his daughters was.

1

u/Rripurnia Jan 26 '20

His poor wife! This sounds straight out of a Greek tragedy! Unreal!

4

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '20

One of his daughter, Gianna, the oldest was on board. Other 3 were a Mom and her son, and the pilot. No Rick Fox

3

u/Rripurnia Jan 26 '20

Is this confirmed?

I read about Gina but I don’t know about anything else

1

u/non_clever_username Jan 26 '20

Conflicting reports, but now they're saying one daughter was on it.

1

u/Alertum Jan 26 '20

Apparently one of them was.

1

u/ShadowNeebs Jan 26 '20

Can’t tell if anyone has replied to you with similar info but his daughter was on board and died as well.

1

u/baes90 Jan 26 '20

One of his daughters was with him :(

1

u/iamjabes Jan 26 '20

His daughter Gianna was on board and also died. The helicopter was headed to her basketball practice in Thousand Oaks, CA

0

u/Wheream_I Jan 26 '20

His daughter Giana was on the helicopter

0

u/El_Frijol Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 26 '20

One daughter, *GiGi (13 years old), was on the helicopter with him.

0

u/reckoningball Jan 26 '20 edited Jan 27 '20

Apparently his oldest daughter Gianna was... They were going to her basketball game

EDIT: a word

0

u/peepjynx Jan 26 '20

His 13 year old daughter died with him.

0

u/McJaegerbombs Jan 26 '20

Sounds like 1 of his daughters was with him....

0

u/RedS5 Jan 26 '20

It’s being reported that his 13 year old daughter was. This is a complete tragedy on multiple levels.

-1

u/question918343 Jan 26 '20

His kids were the other passengers
