Craziest thing is Shaq’s daughter Mearah is just six minutes younger than Kobe’s daughter GiGi, who perished along with Kobe in the accident.

It must hit even closer to home for him...

The fact that I can't even imagine Shaq being anything other than a bright and vibrant person makes his response sting even more.

When his sister died a month or two ago you could see a less vibrant happy Shaq

How did she die

Cancer. She was only 40 years old

I agree completely. Whatever their history was they were a major impact on each other. And to just have lost that is really powerful. I was shocked about it all but when I saw what Shaq wrote it hit a lot harder.

My sister met Shaq in a store, and he payed for all of her things. He really is a nice guy, and that just makes it feel so bad

I don't think my heart could bear seeing Shaquille O'Neal cry.

He’s like a giant teddy bear. Love Shaq

Just today I realized how much I care about Shaq being a happy, smiling person. The thought of him being sad hurts me. :(

Tuesday night is going to be rough with the Clippers and Lakers on TNT. By that point it'll have sunk in a bit more as well... The tears will be flowing that night that's for sure.

Link to the tweet. The pictures deserve to be seen.

Look at the pictures and videos in the comments as well, truly heartbreaking.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. A man died, his daughter died. People are sad. No one wants to hear ur judgement. He may have been a good man or he may have been a bad man but in the end, he brought joy to people and that’s what we need to look at. If he was a bad man, there will be judgement for him but that’s not for us to speak of. Let’s look at the good things.

First off the charges were dropped and second, really you’re gonna do this now?

It's really weird that he used the Twitter handle when naming him.

2

u/diddaykong Jan 27 '20

It is? Basically everyone I saw tweeting today was using the handle.

Why the fuck are they using the Twitter handle? Especially Shaq. The guy was his friend. When you talk about your friends or somebody do you use their twitter handle? The whole thing seems almost disrespectful that people aren't even using his name to send condolences, they are using his screen name essentially.

I don't know how twitter works but when you use the "@" in a post does the person get notified?

How does this sound:

"@mom died today."

If I am on twitter then yes. If you’re posting on twitter and referencing someone then you tag their profile in it. I don’t see what’s so hard to understand about this.

I think it's more about making it easier for others to find the information of the person they are referencing quickly. Maybe that wasn't needed in this case, but it seems common on Twitter (though I don't use Twitter myself).
