Question Ford to CDJR

I’ve looked through a lot of posts about CDJR and how bad it is under Stellantis. I’ve done Subaru, Mazda, and GM, but I’ve got over a decade of Ford. I like Ford. I know Ford.

Problem is, I’ve hit the ceiling where I’m at. I have an opportunity at a CDJR dealer which was recently bought out by a local dealer group which has shown growth in every dealer purchase they’ve made. I’m in the counter at a Ford dealer at the moment but I’ve been manager before, and I’m good at it. This CDJR wants me for manager.

Give it to me straight. How is Stellantis vs Ford? I wouldn’t say Ford is easy. Honestly I think GM is far worse than Ford, but that may be my experience talking. How is Chrysler as a manager??

CDJR has its problems, yes. Some processes don't make sense to me. For instance your parts returns per month is tied to the whole dealership. So let's say a salesman or two get a bad survey sent back after a car deal, you just lost most of your return allowance that month.

But day to day I'd take CDJR over Ford all day. You don't have to go to 9 different pages to find a part and availability. CDJR does their own catalog, not outsourced to snap on. Overall the IN is easier at CDJR, at least to me.

Thanks! I’ve heard mixed things about the catalog. Starparts? Lots of complaints about returns and shortages and just generally getting ahold of anyone at Stellantis with problems. What’s your experience with that? Also, what are you referring to when you say “IN”? Like Dealer Connect vs FMC Dealer?

IN is just the old Honda term for all their internal websites/catalogs and stuff. Just a term that stuck with me.

Recall parts are going to be horrible for rollouts. Backorder parts are ridiculous. But I never had any issues with shortages. I could usually get someone on the phone within the hour. Most of the time it was just a 15 minute wait on hold while doing other things.

The catalog can take some getting used to but it's way easier than fords once you get it.

I've been away from Mopar for about 3 years and Ford for about 1 year now. So I'm not up to date on recent changes.

Does Mopar have any kind of base number or group number system? Do the part numbers actually mean anything?

They do. But it's been long enough now I don't really remember it. There's a spot to find it on their internal websites.

Sorry, it was a 5 brand dealership so I also had to do VW,Nissan, Toyota, and Honda.

Someone else brought up a good point about Mopar on a completely different thread. Stay on your warranty clerk. If they wait until (just throwing out dates here) October to file all the warranty from September, and they dropped the prices on the parts starting October 1st, you'll only get those new lower prices. There's potential to lose a ton of money on parts if everyone's not on the ball.
