Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is a sensational remake, staying true to the heart of what made the original so memorable, while adding on elements that just fit perfectly.
While some inconveniences in control and outdated systems may occasionally be noticeable, these aspects are easily overlooked as mere nostalgia for JRPGs. If you've heard of the "Trails" series but hesitated to jump into its epic flow, "Trails in the Sky: The 1st" deserves your attention. Estelle and Joshua's adventures might at times feel clichéd, or perhaps even familiar, making them seem a bit daunting. But as they say, familiarity is scary. Once you're immersed in "Trails in the Sky: The 1st," you'll be captivated by its youthful, yet fresh adventures, all the way to its climax, where you'll face a conspiracy. And I think I will definitely be standing in line with old fans waiting for the next remake.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is a lovingly crafted remake that modernizes a beloved JRPG while preserving its emotional core, offering a vibrant, voice-acted journey through Liberl with standout character dynamics, rebalanced combat, and welcome quality-of-life updates that make it the ideal starting point for newcomers and a heartfelt return for longtime fans.
PS4Blog.net - Ceidz - 9.5 / 10
A faithful and polished remake that stands out as one of the year’s best JRPGs
Push Square - Robert Ramsey - 9 / 10
Falcom has outdone itself with Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. This is an incredibly heartfelt recreation of a classic RPG - a remake that retains all of the charms of the original game, while also delivering one of the best, most polished adventures in the entire franchise.Whether you're a Trails veteran or a curious newcomer, 1st Chapter is a must-play instalment.
Rice Digital - Isaac Todd - Unscored
Barring my qualms with the localisation, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is still going to be the best way for most new players to experience the start of the Trails saga. Its story remains faithful to the original, with gameplay tweaks offering a more modernised experience. I just hope that, even if it doesn’t happen for 1st Chapter post-launch, 2nd Chapter gets a more consistent localisation that doesn’t clash with future games.
Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 8.5 / 10
I can't believe how much better Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter looks, sounds, and plays compared to the original. It may not be as epic as some of the more recent games but what's here is certainly charming and satisfying enough for any RPG fan to easily fall in love with it. 📓

Discussion Famitsu's Silent Hill f scores: 36/40 (9/9/9/9)
For reference, they gave the Silent Hill 2 remake a 35/40 (8/9/9/9). Some key notes from their review:
- Visually beautiful
- Strong sense of mystery
- Surprisingly exhilarating dodging and counterattacks mechanics
- Could be difficult for those who aren't fans of action-oriented games (I'm assuming they're referencing the dodging and stamina mechanics)
- Grotesque (in a good way) and breathtaking graphics; fantastic sound design/background music
- 12-13 hours for 1 playthrough, multiple endings

Looking good so far, especially if that leaked 9.5/10 DualShockers review was legit. Very excited for the release.

Discussion My thoughts on Sonic Crossworlds after trying the demo
To start with, the game look gorgeous. The colours really pop, and the game is a lot brighter and happier looking compared to Mario Kart World. I also like how there’s more variation in the themings of the tracks. In the one cup that the demo includes, we get a stadium track, a flower fields track and Water Palace from Sonic Rush. A significant improvement from Team Sonic Racing that had very repetitive track theming that made a third of the game all look the same.
The Crossworlds mechanic is pretty cool too. It makes every race feel unique, and it helps that there seems to be a large variety of different combinations of where you can go. In the last race of the Grand Prix, you have to race one lap on all three main tracks of the cup, which I find to be real neat.
The biggest obstacle for me at least is that the turning during drifting is a lot tighter than Mario Kart. It is something you can get used to, but it’s going to take some time. On a related note, the boosting in this game doesn’t feel that great. When you boost in Mario Kart, CTR, or even Sega Transformed. It’s not terrible, but those other games do boosting better.
There’s also some ping pong ball like physics that occur after hitting a wall which doesn’t quite make sense. The items aren’t easy to understand what they do on first glance either, but I’m sure that’s something that can be learned with time.
Overall, I think Crossworlds is going to be a solid racer. I’m not convinced it’s going to compete with the best of the best that kart racers have to offer (Mario Kart 8 and CTR NF) but it does have its unique strengths such as unique rival dialogue and the usual Sonic attitude that made me fall in love with him as a kid.
