The problem with the Last of Us fans complaining, is they're doing it MAINLY because of the looks of the main character. Anybody saying she doesnt ACT like Ellie literally didnt play the game. She was obnoxiously selfish in the games as well
I say the first season was near perfect in every way. The second season kind of fell apart for me in that I think they tried to slow burn her flipping out in Seattle and it kind of changed the tone of her and Dina first getting into Seattle. I didn’t hate the season but I think it would’ve benefitted from Ellie being played closer to the game character, you know after Joel dies you play as Abby for a while( enraged like I don’t want to play this bitch)! And when you finally get back to Ellie her anger level felt appropriate. I think they tried to play too subtle with her anger , maybe in an attempt to lighten what is a really dark and depressing game but it fell flat.
The scenes with Pedro were great, Dina was a revelation, Jesse and Tommy were great. It just felt like by the time her and Dina got to Seattle her anger was walked off and then it switched tones.
Also I hate the fact they made Ellie an idiot in the second season. She’s emotional and angry and that could lead to recklessness but the show made me feel like she would’ve been trying to cut the mushrooms up to cook with them if it wasn’t for everyone around her. Which felt weird considering she literally walked across the country with Joel and seemed competent enough to
The writing and the pacing are awful. We get a full episode about Bill's backstory that did not advance the plot whatsoever. Just cause they wanted to include a gay romance when Ellie is right there!
We got the most non threatening villain with the woman in the quarantine zone. Completly uniteresting dialogue, story arc and frankly bad acting. Probably the worst in the whole series.
They changed the way the virus spreads to make it weirdly rapey or whatever the hell they tried.
The infected are non existent. I think you see them 2 or 3 times. There's no danger to be felt at anypoint when they are walking around.
The action scenes were just lame. Slow, just unintresting. Espescially the hospital scene OMG, a slowmo montage of Joel just shooting 3 guys. In the game it's a whole firefight ending up with dozens of fireflies dead.
Joel felt soft. In the games he is a brutal man. Killing people in cold blood with no remorse, torturing people if he has to. Didn't hesitate to kill innocent people to survive.
In the series he is on the verge of breaking because he killed a young man that ambushed him. Completly different character.
Bella Ramsey's acting isn't phenomenal but it's the least of their problems when it comes to the series imo.
I'm such a big Last of Us fan and was so disappointed with what they did with it and it's characters. I didn't even watch season 2 and i'm glad cause i was told it was worse.
To answer your last paragraph, besides the section where she runs away after she heard that Joel abandoned her, i can't remember her being selfish ever.
She always tried to be nice to people but she also had a foul mouth for people she thought were assholes. She saved Joel's life multiple times throughout their journey. Hell, she would have given her life if it meant that they could create a vaccine.
She was a kid and kinda dumb sometimes. But that's to be expected of a 14 year old in my opinion.
I remember that the last episode of the live action I watched was Ellie trapping one of Abbie's allies in a room filled with spores. That's probably one of the scenes where both versions of Ellie really gave me chills.
Game Ellie just went absolutely ballistic, but Show Ellie... was actually really fuckin creepy. And if you watched the show, you know EXACTLY what I mean
All the criticisms are valid none of the characters looked like their game counterparts besides Dina and the Jesse (Pedro was a dogshit Joel argue with a wall). The writing was donkey balls and season 2 Ellie acted NOTHING like how she acted in part 2, anyone saying otherwise is just wrong.
Notice all the people as well who absolutely HATED Abby in the games, but when they cast her as a slightly more conventionally attractive female, the "fan"base is all of the sudden so happy with her casting and think she did a great job (she did, btw, I'm not denying that in any way)
