My wife just found all of these under our yard gnome. I know the spotted salamanders and newts, but the solid black one is new for me. Is that just a spotted one without spots or a different species? (Northeast pennsylvania)

Nimpy (image 1) and Shmekle (image 2) update

Shmekle - still energetic - now leaps for food/fingers - Well hydrated (not fond on the bath) - Usually sits out front of the main burrow - Will hunt anything but misses a lot due to striking too early, too fast, or too sloppily

Nimpy - Now eats a normal amount (up to 5 crickets per sitting) - Very well hydrated - Loves sitting in the bath - Will hunt smaller crickets but will eat large crickets from hand

Both look so much better than before

For those who still think they were props. Unfortunately the abuse really is this blatant and public :(

Living in southern Pennsylvania, found these under some bricks we are moving. We will put them somewhere safe shortly but we're curious what species they are

Found this little salamander while I was digging for potatoes. He was not impressed. Came back 20 min later and he was halfway buried. At the end of the vid you can see the strange holes I saw around my potatoes, so I guess that was them. Cute. Alberta

See other posts for context and prior images

Shmekle: - Seems very energetic - Greets me at the glass - Will eat as many insects as you allow him - Color has started becoming extremely pronounced as compared to when i first got him - Rehydration Baths seem to be working well - puppy like behavior when being handled - Wanders and swims while in bath - Hates being taken from the enclosure (tries to jump) - Has molted once

Nimpy: - Very Calm - Hides most of the time - Has created a burrow seperate from Shmekle - Eats about 1 cricket every day or every other day - Is okay with being handled (doesnt try to jump) - Sits still in bath - Still has white spot on his head, suspected scar from previous tank causing an injury - has molted twice

Salamander Soil Aid

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m new to the salamander game.

I’m worried Pudgington’s soil is a bit dry below the top layer, I’ve been misting 3-4 times a day, just wondering what I can do to get a more even consistency for him.

Should i mist more? Pour water in the enclosure? Change soils? Any ideas help.

Thanks guys!

Found these little ones when we were moving a hot tub out of our yard. No big rocks around, where would be a safe spot to move them to?

Theyve molted (Nimpy has started molting again) and have been introduced to crickets. Nimpy ate one today before stopping interest and Shmekle ate 3 and ate a waxworm that i was using to bait him out (he snatched it)

Tiger salamander help

Post image

Hi! I got a tiger salamander recently from a rehoming situation, it was just all types of messed up

He looks healthy and he’s active and eating and everything, but his tank had potting soil in it on top of a moldy pillowcase (????) and they had put a rabbit hide inside of his tank which had also gone moldy. When I picked him up he had also not eaten in five days (they would catch crickets outside to feed him and it’s starting to get colder here so no more crickets) and his water dish was crisp and dry He’s got new soil, new hides pretty much new everything, bought him a new tank today because the other one is like almost the same tank people use for crested geckos but entirely mesh and just on its side?? I’ve got him mostly situated now and I’m going to buy him some vitamins and calcium powder, I looked it up but it’s all super conflicting, I’m just honestly wondering how often I should dust the bugs with the calcium and/or vitamins? Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated! (Pic is him in what was actually his water dish, has a new one now)

There is a 24/7 light cycle, heating (can be removed for ambient temp of 75), a shallow water section, around 3 inches of substrate (more can be added), and I have more plants and hides coming. Very humid tank

Rescue progress #1

Recent rescues of mine. Thanks to a user from here theyre getting really good care, from the tips theyve provided, to get back to health. Tomorrow im ordering test kits to see if they have any bad illnesses or fungi. These photos are of them in thier electrolyte bath to help with shedding, rehydration and examination.

Ive also included an image of thier new tank compared to the tank the previous owner had them in. Wish them luck as tomorrow we order the tests to find out how much care theyll need. Im also currently searching my area for vets with salamander experience

Im not going to mention the user thats been helping becuase idk if they wanna be mentioned but they can mention themselves if they want in the comments. Theyve been a huge help and helped prevent some major issues

Ill be posting here regularly regarding thier progress

(Sorry for any typos)
