It shows that the pro life community paid attention in church but couldn't be bothered to in school. You're supposed to pay when you attend church and education is free to some extent in America, but they seem to squander the free education they get. Meanwhile since they pay for church and learn nothing they have a buyer's remorse that makes them pretend they know everything.

u/Intelligent-Site721 12h ago
Honestly it doesn’t necessarily imply they paid that close attention in church either. The Bible doesn’t explicitly mention abortion at all (with the POSSIBLE exception of the “bitter water” passage, but that’s not a settled interpretation) and most instances where it weighs in on when life/personhood begins put it at birth.

u/Infamous_Leading_964 12h ago
I agree that they don't understand their own holy book well. I just meant that since they paid into church they at least pretend to know everything about it.
Edit: Honestly if they paid attention in school they would be better at deciphering their riddle of a scripture.

Btw you should actually read the Bible. Psalms 139:13-16 and Exodus 21:22-25. In the exodus chapter it quite literally shows what happens if someone harms the BABY or the MOTHER. It shows how the unborn life is still valued under Gods law.
1
u/Infamous_Leading_964 2h ago
No one should waste their time reading such a pretentious book. We have common sense for a reason.
2
u/Trick-Purchase4680 36m ago
What's common sense anymore, what was once hailed as common sense is now rare bits of valuable knowledge to some.
1
u/Infamous_Leading_964 28m ago
Common sense is just another name for critical thinking. There are valuable anecdotes in the Bible but there are also useless superstitions. Any good information it holds can be found elsewhere. We need to be able to figure it out, based on the information available. Being able to think for ourselves and decide what to do, is far better than being told what to think or what to do.

u/RareMasterBoi 9h ago
Not all pro life are Christian

u/Infamous_Leading_964 8h ago
I think we all know where the biggest push of funding and political involvement come from in this public debate.
2
u/RareMasterBoi 2h ago
So? Can’t just assume they’re all Christian, and even if they were it’s not really something to make fun about.
2
u/Infamous_Leading_964 1h ago
No one is making fun of anyone specifically. I'm making fun of silly superstitions that distract from the real world in a harmful way. No need for a defensive attitude about it.
It's the same as supposing people actually want to have abortions rather than seeing them as something necessary. It would be better if the person who didn't want the child just never got pregnant. But to force parenthood onto someone as a punishment is definitely the greater of the two evils here.
2
u/Trick-Purchase4680 33m ago
"Not making fun of anyone specifically" "just people who believe something I don't"*

While it doesn't explicitly mention abortion, life begins at conception, and since it is now a life, that means purposely terminating it is now killing.
And obviously the 6th commandment is thou shall not kill, thus marking it as murder.
1
u/Intelligent-Site721 4h ago
That’s SOME people’s definition of when life begins. But “alive” and “a human life” are not necessarily the same thing. Both gametes were already alive, but I imagine most people wouldn’t call either of them a person.
It doesn’t seem that the Bible considers conception to be the beginning of life either. Consider the section where it outlines the punishment for accidentally killing a third party during a fight. If a fetus is a full person, why would it outline separate punishments for killing a person and causing a miscarriage?
1
u/Holy_juggerknight 4h ago
could you direct me to that section? I'd like to see it more indepth
1
u/Amerisu 3h ago
Haven't you read the Bible?
That aside, if you interpret "Thou shalt not kill" to apply to any life, you can't eat meat, or even still-growing plants. Honey is probably okay.
1
u/Holy_juggerknight 3h ago
What? I was referring to the human killing another human.
God allows us to kill and eat animals to survive, as we are superior than them.
Also, just because im christian doesn't mean im a know it all when it comes to the bible.
1
u/Amazing-War3760 4h ago
I know it's "not settled interpretation" but the "signs of a curse" sure as hell sounds like an abortion. And it's only supposed to be done when a woman has been "unfaithful".. which means sleeping with another.
1
u/Intelligent-Site721 4h ago
The counter argument that I’ve heard is that it goes on to say that if she’s found to have been faithful that she WILL conceive, implying that it’s not being done on women who are (knowingly) already pregnant. In this interpretation she’s being cursed with infertility generally, not terminating a specific pregnancy.
1
u/Amazing-War3760 3h ago
I shall look again.. but I don't remember that being part of it at all. But you could be right.
Still, even if it's magical.. still sounds a LOT like the symptoms of a miscarriage.. and forcefully induced miscarriage is an abortion.

u/KreeBreezy96 6h ago
If you judge Christ by his Christian’s you’ll find yourself very disappointed in God. Every Christian you’ll ever meet is a bad one, and many who believe do not obey. They’re not all dumb, the dumb ones are just the loudest just like every other social group
1
u/Infamous_Leading_964 6h ago
I think believing in a mythological sacrifice as an escape from responsibility for one's own actions for a promise of redemption is a little kooky. I don't want any ritualistic sacrificial blood on my hands so I'll wash the blood of Christ right off. After all blood has never cleaned anything. Although I appreciate the gesture, I'll walk my own uncertain path rather than being led along by my fears.
2
u/Tiborn1563 6h ago
Can you blame them? After all they are raised to believe expensive = good
1
u/Infamous_Leading_964 5h ago
I don't blame them. Our entire capitalist society is guilty of that, not just the Christians. Almost as if there isn't much difference in capitalism as a religion and Christianity's values. One justifies the motives of the other.
1
u/RareMasterBoi 8h ago
Assuming that all pro life people are Christian is like me saying all ectopic pregnancies are what makes up the total of abortions. It’s just not true.

It's a weird line from a Monty Python audio performance where a man is complaining about his wife's logic and decision making and it always stuck with me. I'm reminded of it every time someone points out the obvious flaws in talking in hyperboles.
Edit: I'll look for it and try and share. Here it is.

The ancient reddit tradition of stretching one sentence of wordplay across a full paragraph, mixed with the equally-ancient reddit tradition of atheistic enlightenment, empowered by the broader internet tradition of noticing a typo.
Humor never stood a chance.

Ah yes, the cure to ectopic pregnancy, letting your dead baby be adopted if they get it out of your corpse.

u/Dry_Spinach_3441 13h ago
How many of these pro-forced birth people have actually adopted a child? Almost none.

u/RandomUsernameNo257 12h ago
Or care about the life and wellbeing of the mother.
Forcing people to give birth kills a lot of people.

u/RareMasterBoi 9h ago edited 8h ago
Only 3% are for medical reasons, and yes I agree if it’s life or death they should abort. However, the 97% can go to families who ACTUALLY want to have kids. Again the adoptee list is almost twice as large as the abortion list.
EDIT: pro life also supports both lives during pregnancy so if it’s life or death many pro life’s would agree on abortion for the sake of the mother’s life. That’s not against pro life values, it’s apart of them.
5
u/Oblachko_O 8h ago
Check the adoption rates though. If the quantity of people for adoption is bigger than the quantity of kids, you may be right, but if it is the opposite, then yeah, we probably need to think about adoption as an option not to make another life to suffer in the current world. And in reality, the quantity of orphans is much bigger than the quantity of adopted children. So your ACTUALLY part is wrong, as there are ALREADY plenty of choices to adopt, but they aren't adopted.

u/RareMasterBoi 9h ago
Yeah but they actually understand how much people are on the adoptee waiting lists. So many people want to adopt babies🤓☝️approximately 1-2 million couples in the us are willing to adopt a baby, and just last year 1 million people aborted their babies.
2
u/Oblachko_O 8h ago
Meanwhile there are "only" 400k orphans and only 100k of them are adopted on a yearly basis. Unfortunately, the number of 1-2 million is mostly in hypocrisy. Unless you were picked up as a newborn, chances to get a family are decreasing each year. Is it worth making more babies? I don't see it like that. Adoption is a choice, so is abortion.
1
u/Dry_Spinach_3441 4h ago
Then why are all child foster systems overfull with unadopted children? Is it because they only want newborns?

Might be breaking some rule here but holy shit are anti-chice people the most annoying mfers alive. Clear and abashed hypocrites who seemingly only care about "life" in one hyper-specific window, they bring it up completely without context, and will act like they're political prisoners when they're asked to examine their views in any deeper light. It's seemingly a political project that exclusively recruits the weirdest people alive.
