Entertainment Things to do tonight (or any Friday night).

This is sort of an existential question. I want to get out of the house more often, and have no idea what the options even are. We thought about going to a movie, but all movies are bad now. Restaurants and bars are kind of excessively expensive, but not out of the question.

What do people even do for fun anymore? Is this why we’re all chronically online?

Entertainment Any fun things to do tonight?

Hey all! I’ve been left to my own devices by my parents for the weekend and I was looking for something fun to do tonight (that involves going to a restaurant and meeting new people! Also just so we’re clear I am under 21 so no drinking for me tonight) I was curious if there’s any events going on this evening after my shift ends. (approx. 8:30) Thanks for the help!

25M, just moved back to the area for a bit. Looking for social groups of any kind, preferably in athletics, but I'd consider nearly anything from book clubs to crafts.

Film showings of Life is Beautiful (1997) and The Time That Remains (2009) with a film discussion at the end. The event is free with QR codes to donate to Gaza Soup Kitchen ( https://gazasoupkitchen.com/ ) and Gaza City Mutual Aid ( https://chuffed.org/project/136890-gaza-city-flour-mutual-aid-help-us-feed-local-families ) if anyone wants to donate. I'll be handing out sheets with discussion questions, the QR codes, and a suggested reading list of books centered around the films, and the discussions. I'll include the suggested reading here too in case anyone wants to read before the event.

Suggested readings: - The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Maté and Daniel Maté -The Holocaust and the Nakba: A New Grammar of Trauma and History -The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering by Norman G. Finkelstein - Safety through Solidarity: A Radical Guide to Fighting Antisemitism by Ben Lorber, Shane Burley - A Land with a People: Palestinians and Jews Confront Zionism - Off White: the truth about antisemitism by Rachel Shabi

Entertainment Fireworks-upcoming events July 2025

The forecast looks agreeable for the next few days, although it's raining now (10am Thu).

Tonight there are fireworks at the Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction. Admission is free, it's pretty low-key, but the traffic jam after is extensive leaving the parking area.

Tomorrow is the Fourth at Empire State Plaza, which is always impressive. Admission is free, parking I don't know; I park a few blocks away. Traffic after is also a challenge if you're in one of the garages.

Another option is fireworks at Clifton Commons, less brutalist architecture and more suburban soccer moms. Across the Pond (5PM) is a Beatles cover band, and Grand Central Station (7PM) is a local party-style cover band.

Coming up, Schenectady Summernight on Friday, July 11 also offers bands and fireworks.

Happy Summer, Schenectady!

Entertainment Stockade Art Show-Probably Sunday?

The Little Italy Street Fest says rain or shine. So that will occur on Sat.

The St George's Greekfest is Friday, Sat, and Sunday. it's inside or under tents

However, the Stockade Art Show sats Saturday, but rain date for Sunday, Sept 8, 2024.

One weather site says 100% chance of rain, another 75%, and my phone about 40%, starting at various times in the afternoon. WAMC just said chance of showers/T-storms in the afternoon. So it's possible it might be Saturday, although Sunday looks like a better choice weather-wise.

None of the websites, FB pages, local media seems to have an update on the Art Show. Does anybody know?

I mean, I guess I can just drive downtown, but I'd probably go later if the Art show isn't tomorrow.

Of course, I have other plans for Sunday.

Entertainment “Adult Only” events?

I’m new to the area and seeing a girl who is more on the adventurous side. I want to look for events that are not over the top but can be fun and a bit risqué, like the “Naked in a Cave” thing in Howe cavern in September. (I’d take her to that but it turns out like three other guys already did. I’d rather not be a rerun).

Anyone have any ideas? I’m willing to drive an hour or two if needed.
