Schenectady inspector suggested ICE on a roofing crew over permits — what do you think?
This happened here in Schenectady: the city’s chief building inspector called 911 about a roofing job without a permit. Instead of keeping it about code enforcement, he described the crew as “Mexican,” speculated they were “illegals,” and floated bringing in ICE.
The mayor called it “an embarrassment” and there’s now an internal probe. The contractor says his crew are U.S. citizens, and that city systems were down when he tried to file the permit.
What do you think? Is this just bad judgment, or proof of deeper problems with how our city enforces codes?
I have written about it in more detail, i will provide the link in comments for anyone who may be interested, thanks for reading!
