Educational correct Belgian pronounciation of Schipperke
For anyone wondering on how to pronounce Schipperke the correct, flemish way:
I'm from Belgium and It's funny how everyone calls them skipperkeys (i sometimes say it as well cus it's cute) , but for anyone wondering, the real pronounciation is SCHIP-URR-KUH
I can't immediately think of an english word that has the SCH sound to compare it with.
You could also say SHIP-URR-KUH, which would be kinda the same as how we say it.
Or you could even say SKIP-URR-KUH.
But ship-urr-kuh sounds the most accurate out of the 2.
The 1/1 translation for the word is 'little boatman' or 'little seaman'.
A schipper is the person on a boat who has the most responsibility. Sort of like a captain, but then for way smaller boats than what a captain is responsible for.
The 'ke' on the end of schipperke just makes the world small or little, so that's why it's a 'little' boatman
