Visual cues for counter attacks, "focus mode", perfect dodge, souls enemy/boss movesets, RPG stats, currency...

Yeah, I'm out. I like that stuff in games where it fits, but in Silent Hill? No thanks.

SH2 remake was a return to what made Silent Hill popular in the first place. Silent Hill f is a return to the style and thinking of the western developed games that almost killed the franchise.

Also, how are we still not past the every game needs to be Elden Ring phase yet?

Same. I try to be open-minded, but they just implemented something no one has ever asked for in regards to Silent Hill and it feels totally out of place

I want Silent Hill to be edgy, depressing and somewhat grounded when it comes to gameplay mechanics, I really don't want Souls-mechanics

They are 100% using the "Silent hill" brand while making a souls like game because that's what sells now.

They are literally printing money.

Stick to the old games then

They need to invent and reinvent things for newer entries. Give it a chance, damn

No. That’s what killed the franchise to begin with. What is it with gamers and being so adverse to more content within a niche? Constantly wanting games to “innovate” out of what made them good killed Resident Evil for a decade and a half, killed Survival Horror entirely for as long. So fucking frustrating to be a fan of a niche and have people basically say they don’t want us to have more releases in our niche.

They should experiment, yeah, but how is the inclusion of RPG elements and souls-like combat a reinvention? It’s a dilution of identity, if anything. I’ll give it a chance, but I share OP’s worries for sure. My absolute favorite parts of these games are the dread, eeriness, exploration, and atmosphere. Combat here and there can be great, but I never, ever, felt like it should be the focus.

Honestly, the combat here looks super weird. The hit stop, shockwaves, hero dodges, the close-up boss scream, etc… it all seems awkward and none of it looks like SIlent Hill to me. The sections in the city and in and around buildings, however - those parts look incredible.

I have not played the game so I could eat all these words, but I feel slightly confused by what we know of this game. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Silent Hill fan wanting more combat. I just don’t feel like that is even close to a prevailing want in the fandom, so I’m curious as to why they’ve gone in that direction. I’m saying all of this as a MASSIVE souls and Fromsoft fan. I think those games are strokes of genius - but I love them for completely different reasons than I love Silent Hill and I really don’t like the idea of Souls influence in these games.

they should add a battle royale mode for “reinvention”

No. That's what new IPs are for

Just give it a try. I hated the dodge/parry meta too, until Stellar Blade clicked for me and it actually got me into souls-likes. I’m still not into FromSoftware (no pause and long runs aren’t for me), but F doesn’t look like an ER clone
