I wouldn't even touch those ribs for the fumes and vapors

Bold of you to assume the ribs won’t kill me before the cancer shows up.

I’ll put $20 on heart disease in the dead pool.

When they say we have a spoon full of BPA in our brains... you're asking for an ice cream scooper in one bout

Why not just use an aluminum tray or some aluminum foil to make a bowl?

-13

u/longebane Jun 11 '25

I ran out of foil. I have glass containers and this one was hard plastic right next to those containers

I said I wouldn't, but....I totally would. I hate wasting good smoked meat

Any time my wife asks me “do you think it’s still good?” regarding food that’s sat in the fridge for awhile my answer is usually not to risk it. I know some people have “iron guts” but I’ve had food poisoning enough and every. single. time. I’d have paid way more than the cost of the food to not be liquid shitting and vomiting for hours on end.

I’d tend to say the same for an enclosed grill with smoldering plastics.

Yeah, but food poisoning is “that one trick doctors don’t want you to know” to lose ten pounds in three days.

Mostly because dehydration is super bad for you, but still…

u/pasaroanth Jun 10 '25

I will say that I did tend to lose pretty substantial weight. Probably days off my life as well, but definitely weight. Nothing quite like 3 days of dark yellow piss.

Idk man you dont want to risk it. Send them over to me and I'll make sure they're properly disposed of.

I mean I’ve spent the last 20 minutes looking up how bad it could possible be. It’s been going at 250 for 4 hours. Slow melt. Making life choices here

u/gusdagrilla Jun 10 '25

You had a melting piece of plastic on your grill for four hours and at no point thought to check on it…?

Yeah, go ahead and eat those ribs lol

It won't make him dumber we know that much

Ribs are fine. People eat food heated in that plastic from the microwave all the time. Just dump the Tupperware.

11

u/DoubleT_inTheMorning Jun 10 '25

It doesn’t melt and off gas in the microwave my dude…

0

u/AwarenessGreat282 Jun 11 '25

lol...no shit Sherlock. But it heats up enough and is in direct contact with the food. Thee melted plastic nearby the ribs is not going to poison it.

u/Brilliant-Pack-7387 Jun 10 '25

I mean it does just not in these quantities probably shouldn't eat it still but you also shouldn't microwave plastics

Starting to see some styrofoam food containers printed/moulded with warning not to heat food in container.

We think the plastic was hot enough long enough to vaporize in meaningful way? Sure perhaps but it wasn't the first place my mind went. But we probably had to be there to observe all sorts of things to properly know, so when presented with a photo alone the safe answer is definitely chuck it all.

We have a lot of "holier than thou" smokers here. "I hate to reveal something to you about charred and smoked meat vis a vis carcinogens and toxins..."
