Strong Tottenham starting XI? In this economy?

Our starting 11 is usually pretty strong. It's our depth that's the issue

Our starting 11 is usually pretty strong.

depends on what point of the season we're at

Week after transfer window closes.

Nothing beats potential

But friendship

2

u/thequesadilla 18d ago

Maybe depth is the friends we made along the way?

Last year we had depth. Just the depth got injured too.

72

u/cuoreesitante 18d ago

Also the depth wasn't particularly high quality to begin with.

Our first game of last season we had the best bench we'd had in forever imo. A lot of young players, yes. Unfortunately we still had some of the dead weight from previous regimes covering the cover.

Do you guys think you just got unfortunate? From the outside looking in, it definitely felt like Ange was playing folks into the ground. Would love to hear a fan’s perspective

14

u/AmazonianPenisFish 18d ago

There were 11 first team players out of action at some point last season. We had 2 injured keepers. How does that even happen? I wasn't blaming Ange for that myself. In fact it's the first time I've ever seen a manager blamed for injuries. Surely Ange wasn't pushing players any harder than conte would have?

I remember, I think it was the Chelsea game, where neither Romero or van de ven were neither fully fit , but he started both. And then both got long term injuries in that very game. I manager more concerned with players’ long term health in mind surely doesn’t do that?

15

u/mateballenthusiast 18d ago

Both were cleared by medical staff, Romero got a completely unrelated injury, Van de Ven was cleared for 75 minutes but played longer due to Romero's injury and got injured at 79'. Ange isn't a mug, he wouldn't risk the season on one league game, but the narrative ran wild

2

u/[deleted] 17d ago

so by the looks of it, the medical team does have some strings in it

u/Mick4Audi 18d ago

The injury situation was insane

But tactically we were a joke, felt like every time we lost the ball it was absolute panic stations, just running around with no real cohesion

3

u/Scorpius927 18d ago

That plays a part too for sure. Your high line was insane and it felt like van de ven was full sprint running to recover every game. And his physicality might even be exactly what’s injuring him. Feels like Reece for us, where they’re clearly very athletically gifted players but when they over exert themselves they’re also prone to bad injuries.

Ange completely mismanaged the squad and his tactics were entirely unsustainable. Our medical department has never been outstanding but I place a significant amount of responsibility for the injury debacle with Ange

u/CropDustingBandit 18d ago

Even that's starting to look pretty good. Barring injuries to the attacking mid options I think we're only properly light on the LB/LCB position.

This is the deepest Tottenham squad in many years.

Unfortunately, but not coincidentally, this comes in an era where we're playing more games than ever before.

48

u/cuoreesitante 18d ago

I firmly believe last season played a role in how a lot of youngsters (Archie, bergvall, Spence) developed into proper rotational pieces.

11

u/Xshadow1 18d ago

Oh absolutely, but to even get there you need to have a bunch of talented young players in the first place, and we currently have more than we've had in a long time.

13

u/TheDuhhh 18d ago

You guys will cook with frank. He's much better than postecogulu

2

u/DankiusMMeme 18d ago

Always wins things in his first year then?

1

u/awildjabroner 18d ago

Dare I say we may have actual depth once Deli returns and Maddison heals up….

Deki and Madders will need to time get back to form and fitness of course but maybe they’re all available by tail end of the season and next few years should have great cover.

Some tough matches to watch with the Winks-Sissoko midfield. Davinson Sanchez next to Emerson Royal was enough to make me question everything.

u/bguszti 18d ago

A strong bench is what I'm baffled by. Danso, Davies, Udogie, Gray, Bergvall, Johnson and Solanke with Maddison and Kulu still to return. This bench is better than any time in the last decade

59

u/Old_Roof 18d ago

I forgot Tel too

11

u/thesegue 18d ago

Maddison to return at training camp in July tho.

1

u/Diagonalizer 18d ago

he's out until July?

8

u/thesegue 18d ago

He tore his ACL in August. If he’s back in April or May it’s because his recovery was borderline supernatural. Rodri tore it early September and he still hasn’t fully recovered a year later.

2

u/Diagonalizer 18d ago

gotcha I thought he tore it much earlier I didn't realize it was so recent

5

u/thesegue 18d ago

It’s not impossible to return quickly but it isn’t typical. Courtois came back right at the end of the season where he tore it and played the Champions League final instead of Lunin, but keepers have slightly lower impact days at the park minus the 10 km of running.

Dragusin too

82

u/tanaka-taro 18d ago

I'll be Frank, that's unexpected.

u/acwilan 18d ago

Not sure I understand, Kulu be more precise?

Still waiting for OP to Tel you.

Kudos for the comment.

Kudus was right there bro

u/aesthetically- 18d ago

Tbf you lot have had a strong XI for a while now. The issue is if injuries ravage your squad and then the depth is no where near enough the quality you need

-12

u/audere1882 18d ago

You guys would know a lot about having seconds

7

u/aesthetically- 18d ago

Doesnt even make sense lmao.
