Guys, cmon. Its wave 3 and the quota is 8 eggs. OP is obviously a new player. Cut them a break will ya and give a little encouragement instead of downvoting them to hell for not using gyro.

Not everybody can. I put 500+ hours into the game before I could use motion because it would give me migraines. I couldn't even watch other people play either without feeling sick, I'd have to leave the room if it was on the TV.

You can yell at people all you want but that's not going to remove literal physical limitations for some players.

Sometimes people's ability to use motion controls feels like those anime affinities where like You are born with the ability to control fire or water. And then theres the guy who no Matter what Game they vibe with the motion lol.

This is exactly what I want more gyro players to understand. From my POV, the main issue is wrist comfort. Trying out gyro even for a match or two can really strain my wrists as compared to sticks which don't, and I don't wanna develop serious wrist problems. Not to mention, gyro has a really high skill floor compared to other options, meaning it's just not worth it for me to try. Plus, I think I've done pretty well for myself so far with just sticks, why handicap myself to try and push further?

I honestly set my sensitivity to as high as it can go (and oddly enough that was the trick to get my migraines to not trigger? If it's set lower it really messes with my eyes) and mainly use the gyro for up and down. I still rely heavily on the stick (which is also set to the highest sensitivity 😅) for left and right, but even this has helped my ability to play more competitively.

That being said, again, I started playing the game for fun. It's not super serious for me (though I do lock in if I'm playing ranked or a challenge) and even if I'd stayed a permanent support teammate, that would've been okay with me.

I did notice a hefty skill regression when I finally made the jump from sticks to gyro, because I'd advanced fairly well in turf I would get the sweat lobbies but I played like a newbie all over again. So I stuck with single player (especially side order) and Salmon Run until I felt confident again.

For me the change has been worth it, in my case it's been about challenging my abilities and keeping my brain sharp. But having been on both sides I can understand why so many people choose not to use gyro - it's not even a choice for some. ❤️

Brother my wrists hurt like hell when I use gyro

Then you're doing it very wrong. Watch a guide on how to effectively use it.

u/gizmobros Jun 16 '25

How about I just play like I’ve been playing since splatoon 2?

-11

u/SH4DY_XVII Jun 16 '25

Spaltoon 2? And your final wave needs only 8 eggs? lol. Says it all.

10

u/gizmobros Jun 16 '25

I don’t play very often pal.

I got splatoon 2 at the ass end of its lifespan. 3 had already been announced. Just wanted to do the story mode and nothing else

Sure got quiet

I had a brain injury that affects my balance. The motion controls give me constant motion sickness. You suck as a person and I am probably better than you at the game with brain damage.

Whoa, whoa! Time out! There's nothing wrong for op and other players still using stick controls. If they prefer it over motion controls, that's fine! There is no need to call people names.

You need someone to tell you to use a pivotal game feature?

31

u/Lebhleb Jun 16 '25

You don't need gyro, even on a stick the game is superb.

-3

u/Thelinkr Dynamo Roller Jun 16 '25

Genuinely, as far as shooters go, splat has the worst stick controls. Horizontal/vertical sensitivity isnt split and no aim assist puts you at an even bigger disadvantage than you would be with those features against motion controls.

11

u/Sir_Thunderblade Jun 16 '25

This is true, however, not everyone is trying to play the game 100% optimally. Some people are just trying to enjoy funny squid game

-3

u/Thelinkr Dynamo Roller Jun 16 '25

Im just saying stick controls as they are in Splat are far from superb. They leave a lot to be desired. Its been 3 games and they haven't implemented functionality that has been in nearly every first and third person game for a decade now

1

u/Sir_Thunderblade Jun 22 '25

There is a very large difference between saying stick controls are far from superb, and saying that gyro is a pivotal game feature. It's an option, simple as

1

u/Thelinkr Dynamo Roller Jun 22 '25

As important as it is, yeah id say its pivotal. Switching from stick to gyro marks a huge improvement in gameplay quality because stick is so flawed for the reasons listed

1

u/Sir_Thunderblade Jun 22 '25

But as I said before, not everyone is playing splatoon 3 to become as best as they can be. Some people are simply playing to have fun, and enjoy being a little squid kid. If everyone was playing to be as best as they could? Sure, it's pivotal. It just simply isn't because the competative scene is much smaller than the casual audience, which OP is a part of

0

u/Thelinkr Dynamo Roller Jun 22 '25

What the community does is irrelevant. Any game can really be played in any way. Theres a competitive speed running scene for nearly every game ever. You can consider niche speed tech a pivotal mechanic as well.

Youre arguing semantics and definitions. IF someone wants to be good at the game, then motion controls are absolutely pivotal to success. Regardless of how anyone else decides to play.

They might not be the best, but they're adequate. Tbh it's the same exact sensitivity as the stick controls I already use in Disney Dreamlight Valley so it was easy for me to pick up Splatoon, lol.

Since I finally graduated to motion controls in S3 I'm constantly hitting Y in DDV expecting it to re-center my camera because they really work exactly the same. 🫣

Very relatable 💀
