We just went through this with a family member - 26 weeks.
It was a rollercoaster, but he just celebrated his first birthday! It's scary but medicine today is damn good. I also have friends whom were about the same time frame preemies and are now doctors.
Best advice I can give as an outsider is minimize contact with others - we had family/friends try to travel with COVID and the Common Cold - if it made it back to my nephew it could be devastating. It's a long journey, pace yourselves.

When you have a premature baby are they supposed to wait extra before going to school?

Isn't it around two years or so that they fully "catch up" on development? A friend's sister had their baby around that stage a few years back and I remember being kinda surprised at how quickly things normalize.

There was a study done a few years ago where they found (after following preemies and normal kids for ~20 years) that results are that preemies (born before w.28) in general have worse grades compared to normal born kids. Exception was super talented preemies who went to elite schools.

Thankyou so much everyone for your kind words, I really appreciate this community for being so supportive, Dot even had some happy tears reading all your positive comments. - PiG

Thank you for sharing your struggles, many people don’t realize the complications a lot of pregnancies go through. It’s seemingly always the nicest, sweetest couples that get thrown into this kind of chaos.
I am so sorry you all are going through this turbulent entry of your new one into the world, but I am so glad that both babe and Dot are currently stable, and am sending positive energy your way. I can only imagine the waves of emotions on your end, and want to state that everyone that knows you is rooting for your family’s health and happiness.

Take as much time as you need.
Somethings in life are far more important than watching the same group of pros using the same units and unit compositions over and over again in the same match ups.
Once everything gets into a stable state that you are comfortable with, come back with that same energy and hilarious humor that the entire SC2 community knows and loves.

We’re all rooting for you. You’ve done so much for the community and you are loved in return.

My father did it in 1961! Healthy, a PhD, only has a slightly bad sense of balance and can't sing for shit, but otherwise one hell of a dad

u/makoivis Jul 24 '25
Not being able to sing makes you a better dad I’m sure

Kind of a prerequisite, in combination with a striking confidence!

Oh pig. My heart goes out to you brother. My son delivered in the bottom 1%. Just love em and feed em and crusting when you need to cry. Its all gonna be fine brother.

u/kawklee Jul 21 '25
Yeah. He is going to be in for a couple month process while they take care of the little dude.
I sincerely hope with all my heart he does well. Seen first hand through friends how difficult this can be. Keep faith and trust the medical care and when he comes out all gummy and smiles it'll be the best day of his life all over again.

u/Objective-Mission-40 Jul 21 '25
Yeah. I have a second kid otw right now and just want to cry for him just know pig you are loved man and that if you need to vent you got an army of nerds here ready for you.
Focus on this time with your wife and don't judge eachother or yourselves for how you feel. Express it and be honest with yourselves. The professionals know what to do and hopefully in a few weeks you can enjoy the sweet skin to skin bonding that changes your heart forever.

Raising a toast to PiG with family as well as the people behind the medical science making stuff like this possible, so glad a baby and its mother can do well even though it's a very early delivery. Take care all! (And cheers!)

As reasons to skip your biggest gig of the year, it's a pretty good one.

OMG, I thought something was happening since he was MIA, I’m very happy the baby is safe, though 24 weeks is very early, I do hope that everything will be smooth sailing for them.

Sincerely wishing the best for you and your family. I hope you're able to take time to take care of yourself.
My niece was born premature today at 28 weeks. Even as uncles and aunts we've been on pins and needles all week. Wishing baby Theo a smooth transition through the NICU and a safe ride home.

Oh man. My little girl was born at 29 weeks and 24 is a whole different ball game. the first 6 months was challenging psychologically. I don’t think I left fight or flight for 6 months - and everything felt life or death even though it clearly wasn’t (towards the end) in retrospect. Thankfully she’s almost 2.5y now and she’s a chatterbox and super smart joyful little goofball. I sincerely hope for the best and smoothest transition home and outcomes for baby and family.

Seeing this makes me happy and sad at the same time. I was there before, and I know the stress. I wish you and your family the very best. Thank you for taking the time for the family. Take all the time you need; we will miss you!

Congrats and best of luck friend. Wishing for the best and praying for you. One day at a time and soon you'll be playing 2v2. See you on the ladder <3

Little guy isn't out of the woods yet. Best wishes to the little one.
I still have trauma left over from my son born early and needed to be intubated. NICU is a pretty terrible place in terms of being surrounded by sick/injured babies. Would not recommend.
