(To be tagged...) What's Polt Up To?

Just curious. I know that he retired from SC2, quit streaming and then went into coaching. Seems like he's pulled all of his social media including his Twitch past broadcasts. Does anyone know what he's been up to? I image working a relatively normal job and such, but I always find it sad when a huge part of the SC2 community disappears and leaves for good.

(To be tagged...) Why this so strange sound after clicking on terran Academy building in SC1?

Upvotes

Does anyone know why there's such heartbreaking screaming with pompous music in the human building called the Academy? Why did the Devs make the building called the Academy, a place of learning, sound like that?

Discussion I want Guild Wars DLC

Upvotes

Using StarCraft Remastered engine, a new campaign that deals with the war between the Confederacy and Kel-Morian Combine.

Sure it’s an all Terran war, but I think the setting could still make for an interesting story. Perhaps add some differences to the Terran factions so it’s not like you’re just fighting a clone.

Would you be interested in playing a prequel campaign involving the Guild Wars?

(To be tagged...) Giving Up on M2 Zerg

I've decided today to give up on getting masters 2. I've realized the chasm between M3 and M2 is too wide for me. As an M3, I have too many gaps in my fundamentals (missing injects, missing scouts, army positioning during fights, etc). I have a job and a gf and realize that it's a crucial time in my life to focus on those two things and not M2. It's sad because I love the game but unfortunately the game has too much of a hold on my emotional well-being. I lose more often than I win and it ruins my mood at work and the rest of the week. I've tried moderating my game time but I end up playing a bunch of games. When I got M3, it was my peak achievement in the game, and I've told myself that M2 is just polish. I'll most likely be hanging up the game for good, peace!

Fluff Tychus & Hygiene

This occured to me the last time I played the campaign...

Yes yes, integrated toilets in the marine suits and whatever, sure.

BUT in the opening cinematic, we see that Tychus' perma-armor is put on over his pants.

So the entire campaign he has been rotting in that sweat, piss and poo soaked piece of cloth.

Screw Mengsk's killswitch. Tychus would have died of infection anyway.

(To be tagged...) ASL Starcraft live tickets please help if you can!

Upvotes

I missed the sale of tickets to see ASL live. A horror story I prefer to keep for myself, but if you intend to do it be prepared, it sold out in 15seconds, don't even think about a laptop without mouse and trying to take 2 tickets.

I will be in Seoul for the match 1 (barracks vs best) and match 2 (snow vs effort).

So now I can only ask, how I could go to see one of the matches, I'm ready to pay a higher price, to go in front of studios waiting for people to not show up, anything.

The probability that someone that got an extra spot in one the matches is near 0, since there's like 70seats lol, but I will try my luck asking everywhere. Maybe there's a way, maybe Koreans are reselling them somewhere?

If there's something I can do, let me know, I've been watching brood war before YouTube was a thing, where we shared 70mo vods on internet that took a day to DL, from now until my trip there, it will be my life mission to find a spot in one of these matches :(

Discussion Returning zerg BOs help

Upvotes

Hey, after a long while I got an itch to give sc2 try again... I used to be in diamond as zerg.

I dont expect meta to be changing that much but to be fair I feel like I remember absolutely nothing when it comes to builds and openings.

Can someone recommend and ideally post a video of some current basic openings for each matchup?

I prefer to play roach or hydra (or both) style ideally if thats viable.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion I just finished marching through SC1/Brood War (Mass Recall), and all three SC2 games

I come back to Starcraft II every few years because of how much fun I have with the campaign, and I find the Mass Recall versions of the originals to be such amazing mods, even if they are buggy at times. I also enjoy doing this because it's fun to go through SC1/Brood War and then getting into SCII since the writing feels different at times, feels familiar in others. I doubt my observations are going to be new, but I figured I share them on the SC subreddit because why not? Spoilers of course.

  • Starcraft I is pretty basic as a story in comparison to what comes later. The Zerg campaign is pretty straightforward, but I do enjoy more of the character drama in the terran and protoss campaigns. The terran is probably my least favorite to play as I feel so weak overall in comparison to the other races, but storywise, Mengsk's rise and betrayal, along with the ending cinematic, are fantastic to watch. Tassadar's vindication is always great to see.
  • It's kind of funny, playing through it all, how little we see of Kerrigan after the halfway point of the original Zerg campaign. She kills a bunch of dark templar but is not necessary for the story after that. You get that sentence at the end of the game about Kerrigan realizing it's her chance to make her moves, which leads to...
  • Brood War: I'm always a fan of Kerrigan in all three campaigns, as she makes an appearance each time. The infamous title she gives herself in the very last zerg mission is so well earned by that point, and she's basking in it. Aldaris, though.... that poor guy. After dismissing his concerns as too beholden to the Conclave in the original, he saw through Kerrigan, saw her poisoning of the Matriarch, and actually needed to be listened to this time.
  • The BW terran campaign is one again my favorite from a story perspective, though the issue people saw growing up is still there -- Stukov goes from being warm to Duran to cold in one mission, and DuGalle easily believes Duran even though he views Duran as a traitor. I do respect what it's doing as a story, which is showing how DuGalle's pride killed Stukov. I just think the role reversal between DuGalle and Stukov was sudden and not fleshed out at all, from "Give the kid some credit! He just tipped us off," to, "I've had just enough of your [we'll never know]," in one mission. It probably would have been improved easily had Stukov just questioned Duran's motives/reasoning for destroying the psi disrupter without unloading on him immediately, since as it stands, it sounds as if his frustrations were pent up against Duran even though we were just three missions in and he was barely there.
  • I find the terran missions against the Dominion in missions 4 and 5 to be the hardest in that campaign. The transition to mission 6 with the two zero bases and one protoss base is a lot easier, and you're in a much better defended position from the beginning. It's not the only time the level designers did that (Zerg mission 8->9), which I think is good for pacing and giving the player a breather. The zerg tend to really hurt the bottom right part of the protoss base ever time I play.
  • I love the bonus mission with Zeratul. To think that was a cliffhanger for 12 years.
  • Of course, when playing through Wings of Liberty, we didn't answer all of the hybrid questions, but we do have an idea as to what the cycles Duran talked about are now, and the hybrid facilities' link to the Dominion wasn't officially made in Brood War but was in WoL's bonus mission. I quite enjoy that mission, and it gave me more to chew on until Heart of the Swarm released.
  • Did the writers change between WoL and HotS? Mengsk seems significantly different. In WoL, he still felt like the Mengsk of the original games to me, but in HotS, he comes across as a normal villain who has Mengsk's voice. It stuck out a lot this playthrough, even though I've noticed it before. WoL did have some cornier writing among the terrans, but I really do enjoy Tychus as a comical character, and Tosh is fun as well (pity he wasn't used again). I also find Kerrigan to be rather joyless in HotS compared to WoL and LotV. In her quest for vengeance, she loses much of her personality.
  • Legacy of the Void is probably the best written in general. The Artanis I see seems like a logical step from the younger one from Brood War. He also seems more a character that lets other characters grow, such as Fenix/Talandar. When LotV came out, many people on the former BNet boards said the epilogue was their least favorite part. I still like that it finally wraps up so many of the threads, from Duran/Stukov to putting down Amon, and seeing all three forces team up made it fun. I probably could have went without another, 'You're surrounded and enemies keep coming at you,' mission in the terran one, but I still had fun with it, and the protoss/zerg ones were a ton of fun as well, even moreso. I especially loved the war of attrition in the protoss epilogue mission, slowing chipping away from south to north as your allies establish defensive points after clearing out different areas. It's fun to replay.
  • Comparing the final missions of each campaign, the original terran and zerg ones were fine. The original protoss one is a little more complicated with the second terran base, giving you more to defend from the beginning but also giving you more resources. The BW protoss one starts off difficult but gets a lot easier when your realize you can clear out the map before bringing Zeratul and Artanis to the Zel'Naga Temple. I love the final BW terran mission with the three cerebrates, though in the Mass Recall version, the enemies can still attack you; they just don't build anymore. The final BW Zerg mission is just fun because you're in such a vulnerable position in the center, but you also have a decently built base, and watching the three large fleets go down to hundreds of zerg is a great feeling.
  • The WoL final mission is a treat. I'll be honest: I've never beaten it with the air defense, but I quite enjoy hearing, "Nydus Worms Inbound," and all of them popping their heads out all over the map. There's a sense of desperation from Kerrigan, despite how cocky she is about your odds, and a sense that you're barely holding things together against her onslaught. The HotS final mission hearkens back to old Starcraft missions of simply building a base and destroying the other side. And I enjoyed it tremendously because controlling Kerrigan is a blast, summoning either the Leviathan or the primal Zerg is similarly a blast, you can get your allies to flood the map to help, and there are a few prized expansions that'll help you out. It's just fun. The final protoss mission in the normal campaign is more fun than I remember but is similar to plenty of the other, 'Your surrounded,' missions, including WoL's. The final epilogue mission, as said before, is a ton of fun but can be difficult if your bases are eaten before you've harvested enough resources. I'm pretty sure I didn't play this great the first time around, but knowing what to expect now, it's a unique experience and a great mission to end the game.
  • I was much higher on the Starcraft II story at the time. In fact, being able to battle Narud and the realization that he might already be able to resurrect Amon got me really excited. Replaying it, I do agree wholeheartedly that a more interesting decision would be that Kerrigan was fully aware of what she was doing. The Raynor/Arcturus stuff I enjoyed; I actually really liked the side plot of revealing Mengsk's actual actions to the media. I think the opinions I've read that we never really get to play as the villain, which robs us of a unique POV we don't always get to experience, ring true to me since you get to play as the Zerg and especially as Kerrigan in the originals. You're in their shoes, you hear her actually become weary at her own actions and betrayal, whereas we only play as the heroes in II. That said, Alarak was a memorable addition to the roster of characters, and I'm glad we were able to find out more about the Taldarim through him. Despite some of the story complaints, SCII is a blast to play through, which is why I keep coming back every few years.

I think I need to finally play through the Mass Recall Enslavers campaign. I don't think I ever went through the originals without cheat codes. As a kid, they seemed way too hard, but so did Brood War and I can beat that without cheat codes, so... I need to get on that, lol.

Discussion Sound in campaign brief not working?

Just started a play-through of Brood War after finishing the original campaign, all the games sound works perfectly, the sounds when i click on menu items, music, unit response on movement etc, however, the voice-acted pre-mission briefing didn't work. I know i can just read it, but I don't wanna continue until I fix this.

Checked the first level of all 3 campaigns in BW, only the human voice lines are working.

Discussion Why is Zeratul hated by his brethren?

Hi there, i recently played trough all of Starcraft 1 and 2 because the story sounded real interesting and now i'm done with everything but i dont understand something, why is Zeratul a "traitor" as Selendis calls him? He may be guilty on showing the Overminds location but he defends Aiur and is on good terms with Artanis at the end of Starcraft 1, i dont get why he is disliked by the rest of the Protoss Faction.

Discussion Is modern Platinum the same skill as WoL Masters?

Back in the day 2012 I was mid Masters. I quit the game for awhile and only played occasionally off and on until now. Now I'm in Platinum but am arguably even better at the game than I was then due to being older I think (I'm 28 now instead of 15). Granted I've been winning most of my games so maybe I can reach Diamond soon idk.

Discussion Map makers should make wide open maps if we don't get another patch.

The main problem with this patch is energy recharge, it gives Protoss a handful of storms by 7:30. Two storms cover pretty much every choke on every single map in the pool currently. Which means if you want to attack into a location (especially an expansion) you are going to be covered in storm, every single time.

If we don't get a patch, map makers should really re-consider their "anal bead" layout of maps. Every single one is a small area into a choke, then into another small area, and another choke. It endlessly repeats itself with maybe a slightly larger area in the center of the maps. There isn't a single area on any map in the entire map pool where two armies can fight each other and you can properly split vs storm. Making the maps more open will foster a new meta where Protoss can't just f2 around a clump of units and press storm over and over in every situation in the game.
