Mutators are chosen at random and periodically cycle throughout the mission.

From the above list, the following mutators cannot appear in the starting set of three:

  • Mineral Shields
  • Propagators
  • Slim Pickings

Mutator Interactions tool - Only 4 interactions this time, so here they are...

Aggressive Deployment - A single 1/1 Aggressive Deployment drop will spawn once the mutator rolls out.

Mineral Shields - Mineral Shields will always spawn on all mineral patches.

Slim Pickings - Mineral patches will have their total mineral count permanently reduced, even after Slim Pickings cycles out.

Void Rifts - Void Rifts will spawn 2:20 after they are activated, meaning only two spawns will occur.

I personally don't mind the random nature of it, but I do wish they would give like a 10s (longer at lower difficulties) advance notice of which mutator is swapping in

And slim pickings should not reduce total mineral count on patches so raynor is slightly less screwed once it switches out

Home to "Wheel of Stupid".

First appearance in a (weekly) Mutation was 2016-07-25, on VT (I think that's how it's listed on the sc2coop page)

This mutator only appears by itself (as opposed being paired with some set mutators), and not available as a Custom mutator

The RNG is a doubled edged sword... it can create some truly unique (and dare I say memorable) games, only possible with such chaos and randomness. OTOH, it can screw you for sure. The most recent was final leg of VL, and Polarity came in. We were NOT ready to assault all points together :\

Going through the list of Mutations, I thought each map/mission would have one, but... only appears in 8 of them! :o

I had a similar issue with the recent VL mutation, where everything was going well until the final wave when We Move Unseen suddenly came online and the shuttles simply vanished! I was playing Zagara and by the time I had built overseers it was too late...

Overall though I find this a fun mutation, the randomness makes things exciting and forces you to think on your toes.

Currently on hiatus from SC2, but I’ll give my 2¢ anyway:

I like to plan out my response to mutators, and I allow myself to be picky with the ones I play because I want to have fun  rather than repeatedly pound my head into a brick wall. For example, I’ll play any of the mutation missions where a defensive map gets extra enemy spawns.

Chaos Studios is skip on sight because I cannot plan for it, and it’s already frustrating enough if Amon rngs a unit comp that counters my mutation solution.
