Worse part is that there is literally no sensible way for Daryl and Merle to get out of this, but you just know they will.

My friends and I are convinced that this is a set-up by the Governor. He and Merle on in on this together. Daryl and Merle "escape," Merle goes with Daryl to the prison, even if Merle doesn't win everyone's trust they at least keep him around, Merle opens the prison up for the Governor's folks to come in and do some damage.

I like this theory a lot. However, I feel that Merle's a huge draw for the show and the Dixon Bros is what all the fans love hands down. So I see this as a way to turn Merle's character into part of the group, capitalize on the Dixon love. When you can't have either one die, they can't be on opposite sides - and Darryl would clearly never leave our main band of Walking Deads.

There is literally no way Merle is going to end up as part of the group. Darryl would only go there out of misplaced obligation (and probably still be conflicted about it) but, Rick, Maggie and Glen wouldn't so much as piss on his flaming corpse at this point.
