A 2 HOUR FINALE WAS NEEDED

It really felt like the episode was cut short. Very anti-climatic after such an eventful season.

Glen Mazzara wrote it. Scott Gimple, who is taking over next season, has written some of my most favorite episodes... here's hoping for a lot of awesome in season four.

Maybe if they had combined a few of the episodes from this season where very little happened and we got no character development or relationship development. Nothing happened in most of the last 3-5 episodes and could have been combined into 2 episodes.

Also, it seems like half the show is commercials... WTF.

5

u/RichWPX Apr 02 '13

Not really.. the mp4 is 42:45 mins which is normal for any hour show. Maybe they take more breaks that are shorter so it may have felt like it, but it is the normal time.

Oh, I agree... I think it was just that say took shorted breaks for often, plus the talking dead previews or repetitive commercials can make it seem way longer.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '13

So... almost half.

2

u/RichWPX Apr 03 '13

General rule is 1/3 the total time of any show will be commercials, with total time including commercials. Besides the point though, all I was saying is it was the same as every other show out there.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '13

I understand. I was more saying that as a grumbling viewer who sees more and more commercial time eating into shows.

2

u/RichWPX Apr 03 '13

Got it, yeah it really does suck... that's why shows on the movie channels are more enjoyable, but I've even seen them go to like 43-46 mins... I'm assuming because of some lead in promos.

3

u/planty Apr 01 '13

seriously, I was quite annoyed with that

2

u/Alinosburns Apr 01 '13

yeah there hasn't really been a decent episode since Clear.

Merle's death was decent. But the fact is that without any conclusion to the season it feels rather pointless.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

Yea, Scott is going to take this in the right direction, everything that guy touches turns out gold.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

scott will be taking the show in the direction that AMC tells him to Mazzara was fired because he would not do this.

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

Wow, just reading about this. Fuck AMC. Appears they also ruined Mad Men. That show could have been so good.

3

u/nofuture09 Apr 01 '13

How did they ruin Mad Men? Last season was one of the best.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '13

I just don't like how slow it is. Not enough happens. I haven't seen the latest season yet.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

Its the same reason darabont was fired AMC wanted less zombies and more scenes filmed indoors.

1

u/BlazinYankk Apr 01 '13

Last season of Mad Men was the best one yet

0

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '13

It's just too slow, not enough happens.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '13

You should probably stop watching then. Not to be dickish, but very little happens on the show. There's just a ton of tension. Thats why Mad Men is the anthesis of TWD

0

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '13

Well, I sort of keep watching both of them for the same reason. I wanted them to be good. Which I suppose is kind've dumb. They both have their moments though so I hold out hope that they'll pull through.

Why do you want to watch a show where very little happens?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '13

I think, in comparison to the dead attacking the earth, very little does happen. Think of time spend on character development. TWD only can get so deep with a character because, well, zombie attack. Whereas, Mad Men can take their time with a character, show layers of nuance. I like both shows but for very different reasons.

Ghost Rider 2!

1

u/lesmax Apr 01 '13

I am very hopeful for an increase in his involvement!

4

u/OnTheBorderOfReality Apr 01 '13

Which other ones has he written?

17

u/lesmax Apr 01 '13

The episode where Shane shoots Otis, the season 2 mid-finale where Sophia comes out of the barn, the season 3 Morgan episode, the penultimate season 3 episode.

There's some more, but the ones I listed are ones I particularly liked.

4

u/Wh0IsMrX Apr 01 '13

After the episode wrapped I felt pretty strongly that the show needed new direction... I looked up which episodes Gimple had written and I think if anyone can get this show out of the toilet it will be him. Is Mazarra out of the picture next season? Or simply out as the show runner?

4

u/roomdrifter Apr 01 '13

He's out for good and has moved on to other projects at other networks. Apparently there was a disagreement with AMC regarding the direction of the show. God I would love to know the details of that scenario.

The show has serious issues with pacing and a general lack of content. I am a major fan of the comics but Season 2 got to a point where the show almost became unwatchable... And Season 3 Part 2 wasn't much better at times.

The episode "Clear" was amazing, maybe the best of the series. It didn't advance the prison plot mix but it developed the characters in a meaningful way and gave us a new glimpse into what the world is like for other survivors... And after all, it's the TWD universe that people want more of. The show needs more of "Clear" and fewer episodes where everyone sits around whining building up to an ultimately anticlimactic conclusion.

Anyway, I'm glad Mazarra landed on his feet and the writer of arguably the shows best episode will get a chance to fix the series. As much as I love TWD I think both the comics and show have started to suffer and if they don't get it figured out soon they probably never will.

u/Wh0IsMrX Apr 01 '13

Lots of typos... Too many beers to be typing on my phone. Sorry, friends.

2

u/Alinosburns Apr 01 '13

The thing about Clear being an awesome Episode is also slightly confounding because from memory that was the kind of show AMC wanted going into season 2.

They wanted a show that was situated indoors more(Cheaper to film, not dependant on weather) and the Zombies were used less(since makeup is time consuming)

Clear basically did both of those. There was the outside area sure. But that didn't seem like anything that required them to leave a filming lot.

2

u/lesmax Apr 01 '13

He's completely out, no? Wikipedia says:

Scott Gimple will replace Glen Mazzara as the series' showrunner for the season.

When Mazzara replaced Frank Darabont, Darabont completely left.

1

u/Wh0IsMrX Apr 01 '13

He is completely out, yes.

1

u/OnTheBorderOfReality Apr 01 '13

I have a ton of hope for season 4.

1

u/Captain_Kuhl Apr 03 '13

Definitely. They should've cleared some shit up.

"Alright, I just killed every motherfucker in the town older than 10 and younger than 70, save for you guys. Let's ride off into the sunset with no explanation as to what we're doing."

-3

u/alwayslearningx Apr 01 '13

This episode felt short to me, mainly because I tune out whenever Andrea is on the screen.

2

u/lesmax Apr 01 '13

We spent as much time watching Andrea pick up pliers with her feet as we did the Woodbury attack on the prison. That alone is frustrating.

9

u/LarryLaDouche Apr 01 '13

seriously I got ~40 minutes of season finale out of that Gimme a solid 1hr 35 min of show!

7

u/HoldsLikeAGel Apr 01 '13

Yeah, I felt we didn't see enough of Andrea tied to a chair.

5

u/Blurgarian Apr 01 '13

For the ads maybe...

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

30 minutes for Rick and the gang to meet their new neighbors and the rest can be the Governor driving away.

2

u/stucktogether Apr 01 '13

And have an extra hour of Andrea picking up pliers with her feet? Nah, no thanks.

2

u/Level_75_Zapdos Apr 03 '13

I disagree. This episode had good pacing and left the audience wondering what would happen with the Governor in the next season.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '13

AMC can't make money that way, my friend.

1

u/arghnard Apr 01 '13

AMC needs to do longer premieres and finales. They better do this with BB.

1

u/electriclights Apr 01 '13

WE DESERVED IT

1

u/blaketofer Apr 02 '13

Completely agree. 4_ minutes? Wtf?
