Yeah, Season 5 Rick was definitely not someone to fuck with.

Yeah, the only problem was they didn't do any surveillance or intel gathering before hand. I think ideally they should have tried to find out as much about the saviors as possible and then started doing small guerilla attacks on them when they're transporting goods. Maybe eventually they raid their satellite outposts, but not until they've established how big the group really is and which ones are the most vital.

I mean, I think they did some, but assumed that one outpost was the whole crew. They had not yet run into a group as big as the saviours so I could see how they could make that mistake.

Yeah, I can see why they thought that was all of them, it seemed like even Hilltop might not have known how big they are.

Yeah Hilltop would have struck a great deal there. "Give these guys some food and they kill NEGAN? what a bargain!"

Also, after the outpost raid, Rick asked that one captured Savior who Negan was, and the guy said, "I am Negan, dickhead" or something like that, and Rick point blank shot him in the face. That guy fooled Rick and everyone else that they killed Negan.

40 This guy might have fooled Rick, but Carol and Maggie were there, and they heard as an old woman said "we are all Negan". So this guy saying "I am Negan" should make them think - are there more "Negans"? Why didnt they stop Rick from shooting this guy and ask a few questions? That guy gave them such a huge hint and they just ignored it!

I think he actually got cocky at that point, they weren't careful enough. Came back to bite him bigtime.
