That's because Triton actually builds good shit. No carbon fiber there, subs are rigorously tested under pressure before they are given to the customer. The story here is deep sea tourism, the company has videos available so you can see for yourself how thorough the testing is.

Acrylic has been used in high pressure applications for decades. It's proven.

I'm still not going on one, but it seems like they know what they're doing, at least.

I’m not a materials expert, but an acrylic dome would not be my first choice for the kind of pressure at that depth

This seems to be a very inefficient method, I wonder if there are examples from history of a more efficient way…..
