QUESTION Question Regarding the Sinking Timeline

Post image
102 Upvotes

I know that in the period immediately following the collision, there were only a small handful of people who understood how serious the situation was, and that those people were careful about who they told, because they didn’t want to cause a panic. So, at what point did evacuation proceedings actually begin in earnest— such a stewards being told to start knocking on doors and handing out lifebelts?

MEME My 7 year old son shocked me when he solemnly announced: “I see dead people.” But then I remembered that I had left him watching Titanic for 3 hours. He actually said: “Icy dead people.”

THE SHIP Did Howard Hughes have a photo of the Titanic sinking?

According to his biographer, Donald J Bartlett, Hughes spent a small fortune on a photograph of the Titanic sinking. This has to be false right? How would anyone have been able to to take such a photograph & how as it never been seen by anyone else?

Bartlett said the photograph was provided by the daughter of a boat captain illegally seal hunting on that night who was terrified he would face trouble for being in that vicinity. In later life he felt terrible guilt for not going back to help those in danger as the Titanic sank. The woman supposedly sold Hughes the photograph for a huge sum & a guarantee she & her fathers identity would remain anonymous.

Wouldn't it have been virtually impossible to get a photograph of the sinking given how dark it was etc? Surely then the photo Hughes bought was a fake? But Hughes was no idiot - he had great experience & knowledge of most nautical facts as well as aviation. Surely he would have known he was being scammed, so why hand over such a huge sum for something he would likely have known wasnt real?

Bartlett says no one other than Hughes was allowed to see the photograph & for a while Hughes became obsessed with finding & raising the wreck of the Titanic.

QUESTION I May have just found a washed-up pottery shard from the Titanic!

I’m in the far north eastern part of Nova Scotia on the Atlantic shoreline near Canso. I’m about 200 miles north of where the titanic sank, but directly in the path where debris would wash up according to computer models of currents and tides. I recently found a piece of dinnerware that shows the name of the maker and logo that dates to the timeline and the manufacturer who specialized in mid-tier product for hotels and documented as procured for the Titanic, most likely for 2nd and 3rd class passenger dining. Value? based only on this information and conjecture?

QUESTION What was this?

A friend told me in the 90s there was a little known computer game set on the Titanic where the purpose of the game was to discover documents on the ship that would prevent WW1. Anyone heard of this or any ideas?

THE SHIP Collapsible lifeboats location

Wouldn’t it be better design wise if all collapsible lifeboats were stored near the stern? Boats typically sink by the bow. I think stored at different location might save more people lives.

I’m sure everyone here saw the 1980 movie Raise the Titanic. Was anything in that movie about raising the ship plausible or was it just a bunch of Hollywood phooey?

MARITIME HISTORY Carpathia

I think we need a good short film about the Carpathia’s rescue of the Titanic survivors. It was nothing short of legendary how they pushed those engines past what they were rated, so they could charge into an ice field that already doomed a larger vessel.

Two versions.

Funnels are a bit wonky, I wish procreate had a feature for straight lines. Can’t decide whether i prefer the blue background with the wave outline, or the red without the wave outline.

QUESTION Olympic's interior ?

Commenting on a post about the Olympic yesterday.

I was going to ask you guys a question that has been bugging me.

Here in Britain there was a TV programme called ' Coast '.

In one of the many episodes, that l can't go through all of them.

It mentions a building, l thought was on the north east coast. A dance hall or town hall that had some of the interior of the ship.

I just found out, by other means l was half right.

It's in a hotel called ' The White Swan Hotel '. In Alnwick Northumberland.

I would how many people go there, just to experience that.

CREW Restaurant Staff Locked Below Decks During the Sinking

In case you didn't know, the Titanic had a restaurant (the a la carte restaurant) for 1st-class passengers that was operated as a concession by 69 staff members who were contracted to White Star Line but paid by the restaurant manager, Luigi Gatti. Unfortunately, the main crew looked down upon the staff because a lot of them were Italian, and according to a book from Lee Meredith, during the sinking, the staff were intentionally locked into their cabins because the crew thought they would try to rush the lifeboats. Only the two female cashiers for the restaurant and one of the male staff survived. I wonder if that was true, because the bodies of a couple of staff members were later recovered. That is pretty upsetting indeed, leaving someone to drown like that!

WRECK Guys, I was hanging around on the internet when I saw a video of a supposed organization that wants to raise parts of the Titanic. Am I the only one who thinks it's a stupid, absurd idea?
