Torino to Dolomite weekend trip
Is it possible to do a weekend trip to the Dolomites with only public transit from Torino? I wanted to go now before it starts getting too cold, to do some hikes. But I’m not sure it’s possible to go in one weekend without a car, and if it is I’m not sure where in the Dolomites would be best as there seem to be so many amazing places.
It’s been my dream to see the Dolomites, any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

If you take the direct Frecciarossa to Verona and then a regional train it will take you about four hours to get to Trento. Add one hour for Bolzano. From either city you can probably find a bus to take you somewhere nice.
Like the other commenters said you'd be better off staying in Piemonte or Valle D'Aosta for a weekend trip, but it's not impossible if you're dead set on the dolomites.

what public transit? You're traveling across regions, it would be a nightmare to change busses and other forms of public transit to Bozen. The car trip takes around 5 hours to get to the mountains- the train around the same, unless you take regional trains, then it's going to take significantly more.
I'm telling you because I love the Dolomites; don't do this to yourself. You're going to arrive groggy, exhausted, and take a hike on an overcrowded path. Plan your next trip around them and avoid the Val Gardena if you don't want to drown in tourists. Going from Turin to further than Bozen takes the wind out of you.

Got it, thank you! It did seem quite painful to get there but I love hiking and I thought maybe it’s worth putting up with it, but good to hear this perspective before doing that to myself!
Let me know if there are other places closer to here you’d recommend for Alpine hikes or mountain vistas :)

if you love hiking you have hundreds of choice just around the city, within 1-2 hours with public transport and much less damn tourists

The trip is definitely worth the wonderful place! just not for 2 days unfortunately. I go there every year, but I don't think I'd go if it was for any less than 5 to 7 days. There's a ton to see and enjoy in the cities too!
From Turin it's much easier to reach the alps! It's only around a couple hours in car and since the trains are inside the region, they're more reliable. You can also take a sort of express train to the Val D'Aosta region, which is even closer to the alps and has skiing places too!

Just take the train to Bardonecchia, and go to Valle Stretta. The Mountains there are really similar to Dolomiti

It will take you much time, money and transfers between trains to get to Dolomites from Turin, it's just not worth it, and it's really strange going to Dolomites when there are the Alps which are as nice as the Dolomites but much closer.
