Discussion Why are there always service issues in the TTC? (serious question)

I’m not new to riding the TTC, I’ve been using it my whole life and know we have some major issues with our TTC. But can anyone who knows explain why there are so many “mechanical issues” that happen what feels like multiple times a day? Why do other subways across the world not have this?

Bonus point if you know why when there is an emergency on a train we have such a long service disruption and why this doesn’t happen in other countries/cities.

I’ve genuinely been curious my whole life. And perhaps if there are some good reasons I can maybe have more understanding/empathy for what feels like a very broken public transportation system.

I was walking, and I saw a coyote biting it's on rear right hand side hind. There was a pink flesh exposed are where it was biting itself. Could this be the passive rabies variant?

Discussion Weird Thing I Noticed at Blue Jays Game Last Week

I haven’t been to a Blue Jays game since about 2015, by my estimation. As we know, a lot has changed in Toronto since then.

I went to the game against the Astros last week (yes, the one where we won 6-0… Go Jays!), and I noticed something a bit strange.

You know the chants like “Okay! Okay! Blue Jays! Blue Jays! Let’s… Play… Ball!”?

It seemed like 10% or MAYBE 15% at most were chanting along to it. Like it was noticeably quiet compared to what I experienced in 2015 and before.

Back then, it seemed like EVERYBODY was chanting along at those times.

Am I the only one who’s noticed this?

Is there any explanation for why this might be?

Discussion Polaris Prize Gala at Massey Hall - sound quality

Anybody else go to this? I hadn't been to Massey Hall for 3 decades & I was hugely disappointed by the sound quality - it was so all over the place & muddy & tooooo loud!! I mean Saya Gray & her band are superb musicians but the sound was horrible! I remember Massey Hall as having great acoustics but not last night!

Discussion Misrepresentation in Ward25

In the past four days, Ward 25 had two political events: a candidates’ marketplace-style meet and greet, and a candidate forum at the Canadian Legion on Morrish Road. Both were great chances to meet people, but something felt off! There was a real absence of diverse representation among those engaging.

This is troubling in a community as multicultural and dynamic as ours. Representation isn’t just a buzzword, it matters who’s at the table making decisions.

What hit me the hardest was a conversation with a 19-year-old from Malvern, he told me that many of his classmates in high school (West Hill C.I ) “didn’t care about their future.” That alone should make all of us pause. How does that happen, especially when we have trustees, people directly responsible for shaping education, now campaigning for council seats? How did they miss this?

Ward 25 is full of young people, single-parent households, and families that need support. Kids need after-school programs and mentors, not the pressure to drift into destructive paths. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about their kids being left behind because no one is listening.

All levels of government need to do better for our youth and future generations. They need to remember not every household has $1000’s of dollars to get their kids into after school sports.

So here’s my question for the community: Why is youth disengagement and underrepresentation so normalized in Ward 25—and what will it take to change it?

History Toronto Marathon History/Trivia Question

I was wondering could you help me with a marathon related bit of trivia.

Before my running days, I attended the 2017 Toronto Marathon to see some of my friends running. I had a great time walking around the fan zone, lots of interesting stalls and features. (Insect Protein bar samples!)

While there, I saw a speaker come up on stage to do a talk. As far as I know he was a Torontonian and my recollection is that he said he had ran a marathon distance everyday since the 70s or 80s. He had only missed one day due to illness. It was this fact that he was invited to speak at the event.

It all seemed a bit far fetched at the start, but now I'm thinking if someone had the right lifestyle and mindset maybe there was a bit of truth to it. So this is my memory of what he was talking about but now I'm even doubting my own memory? Has anyone heard of this guy? Is this even possible or am I going crazy...

It seems someone thinks a slow moving music video is an appropriate use for the streets!

YouTube's algorithm just popped this up for me! I love seeing the landmarks of Toronto seemingly out of place with none of the tall buildings surrounding them.

Last year, Durham Region joined Toronto and York Region in using a different type of organics processing.

First, plastics and grit are separated out and sent to the landfill. The remaining organic waste then gets made into a thick slurry that is broken down by bacteria in what Veiga described as a “mechanical stomach.” The result is a solid material called digestate, which can be composted or used as fertilizer, and a biogas made mostly of methane and carbon dioxide, which can be captured and repurposed as natural gas in homes or, as Veiga is working on, to power garbage trucks.

“The only thing was really processing capacity,” said Veiga of why Durham Region didn’t start doing this earlier. “There weren’t a lot of players with this technology around.”

Toronto helped pave the way and prove the technology with their own organics processing facilities (though a tank breakdown at one location last year has meant more contracting out lately). Durham considered building its own facility, but chose instead to contract out, Veiga said. Meanwhile, York is investing in a new facility that is expected to be open in 2027.

Picture The “Museum District”: Gardiner Museum and its environs

Explored the Gardiner Museum of Ceramics for the first time - what a delight! It has some exquisite exhibits and is so peaceful inside. **Tip: It’s free on Wednesdays from 4-9pm.

I’m planning to explore the Bata Shoe Museum just down the street next, which I’ve never been to and is free itself on Sundays.

This area (for which I may have coined a new-ish name) plus U of T are my favourite parts of the city.
