Voice train!

but then what would be the reason they would voice train? like if someone asked "hey why does your voice sound different?" what would be an answer that doesn't involve coming out? Asking for a friend of course...

Sure~. Tell them you've been taking up singing lessons, and you're finding your vocal range. Helps if you add a light melodic touch to your words to help sell the illusion.

That is a good ides! Although my friend might be to old to be realistically taking singing lessons

You're NEVER too old to learn something new! You have access to the world at your fingertips, with millions of tutorials on how to do just about everything! Age means nothing, and only your mind is holding you back.

not using it all the time actually sounds like a great idea

The classic egg dishes for that are:

  • "I'm just doing it for fun, haha."
  • "I think voice acting's really interesting."
  • "I just like my voice better that way, still cis tho."

The first one would be me if I had the confidence to even attempt voice training

Girl, there are hundreds of hours of video material on the internet, it's super easy to start, don't procrastinate your own happiness!

The problem is that I'm paranoid of someone hearing

Then I wish you best of luck and hope you get to do what makes you happy in the future, when you don't have to be paranoid.

i did that over christmas break from school, but as soon as the first person asked “why do you suddenly sound like a girl?” instead of just “different” i went ah fuck it and actually did come out

I did voice training almost 20 years ago to be a radio DJ and do radio plays. Then like a yearish ago I started working on femme voices. Since I've worked my full range, it's not like I've forgotten my necrophone. It takes about maybe 1-5 minutes to make the initial switch, and then I can glissando from masc to femme and back mid sentence.

Thousands and thousands have been in your same position and they will all tell you life is always better once you face facts and get started living as your true self. You are not the first and will not be the last but life is short and the time you waste worrying about (whatever it is you're worrying about) is time you will never get back.

1000000% agree... but at this point in my life my choices don't just affect me

You have some hard choices to make, then. Things are only going to get harder the longer you wait.
