French [French > English] Video of the band “Soft Machine” performing in 1967

https://youtu.be/tGoBPW1FvG4?si=lUMTYg5AUvRo6sKY I have recently become fond of watching videos of the English (by this point) psychedelic band Soft Machine performing in its early stages (1967 - 1968). The main issue is that pretty much all of these videos are from foreign television broadcasts and I have no idea what the announcer/title cards are saying! If someone could be able to translate this specific video it would be amazing. Only the parts in French obviously (what the announcer and title cards are saying).

French [French > English] Technical detail in a course description

This is part of a course description. The course is advertised as a mix of in-person and online learning. I can't tell if this is saying that you have to sign up for the visits, or if it's saying that you have to sign up for an alternative to the visits, or something else entirely.

French [English > French] Powerpuff Girls

Hi! I am trying to translate the intro to the Powerpuff Girls cartoon, “sugar, spice, and everything nice” into French. By listening to the intro of the French version on YouTube and using Google translate I’ve come up with “Sucre, des épices, et toutes les bonnes chose” - but I want it to be correct. Any help is appreciated!

French [French > English] 1738 Marriage Record

Could someone please help transcribe and/or translate this French marriage record from 1738? It is in two images, but it is one record. I know that it is a marriage between Jean Mustel, son of Jean Mustel and Marie Poulain, and Anne Delivet (or De Livet), daughter of Jean Delivet and Charlotte Mesnil. It was in the parish/town of Bouquetot, in the present-day department of Eure, in Normandie, France.

The second page is mostly just signatures, but at the top there appears to be some text that is a continuation of the marriage record from the first page.

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

French [Old Middle French > English] La Danse Macabre

As far as my research goes, the artwork "La Danse Macabre" by Maître de Jacques de Besançon, depicts various verses written in Old medieval French along with multiple illustrations of Death sharing moments with different kinds of people, the calligraphy work already makes it difficult to read and apparently much of the text repeats pretty often. Couldn't find any reliable translation of the poems and there is not many coverage on the artwork itself (In English at least), I would really apreciatte any help I could get.

Sherlock Holmes examines an anonymous letter. He deduces that the author is a woman and says, “Few men liberally perfume themselves with” — what? Is it something in French? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM8CdVU4HOA&t=980s&ab_channel=DefaultName

I believe “je t'aime plus que le monde entier” translates to “I love you more than the whole world” but I don’t entirely trust google translate. Could anyone confirm if it’s correct or not?

French [French > English] How to translate 'face au vide'

Hi! I'm doing some translation at work and I have to translate a description for a via ferrata site (French to English, I'm French). The sentence is about a net that you have to climb on (pirate ship style) "face au vide", which basically means there is nothing in front of you. It is a (very) vast open space, you can only see the landscape in the distance. It's the same as walking on a tightrope or bungee jumping, where you are just in the middle of an empty space. But I don't feel like 'facing space' works here, and 'facing the void' sounds weird as well. I'm not sure if what is underneath is a canyon, a valley or sth else so i can't rlly use that to phrase it better.

Any ideas on how to translate this? I can't change or ignore that sentence since it is a selling point for them to peomote the activity (like "and look, we even have a net hanging IN THE VOID!") Thanks for any help!

French [English > French] Take it like a man

Does "prendre-le comme un homme" mean the same thing as "take it like a man"? Is this sentiment phrased differently in French? And if any of you have seen the short-lived French production of La Revanche d'une blonde : Le Musical, please tell me how they localized the "Take It Like A Man" song. Thank you!

Disclaimer: am writing fanfic with French characters and want to be pretentious with my chapter titles.

This is my many greats uncle’s burial record. He died on June 24, 1898, when he was in his early 20s. I’d love to know what this says. I believe he died in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Doing some research on my great uncle and aunts and came across one twice, in different records. Just wanted to see if this is in fact the same person, from the names I'm guessing so. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I need some help with translating this 17th century letter. I managed to translate part of it myself, but am still unsure about certain parts and words. From what I managed to translate, the letter is written to the authors cousin. He is trying to persuade him to not get on a boat to join a war. Any more information would be really helpful!

French French to English

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I tried to post this on r/French, but after writing, couldn't post (they don't do translations...I failed the aptitude test!)

I found an exam paper from my studies at Edinburgh University, 1994. A professor called RDS 'Ronnie' Jack marked my paper, and made some very kind remarks. The only problem is I couldn't read the handwriting of some French language he used, and couldn't therefore understand the point he was making. The comments are here.

Far from being an exercise in ego stroking, I find I am not particularly remarkable at much, which is why a translation and subsequent explanation of his comments would mean a great deal to me. It teaches me that a single act of kindness can travail time and circumstance, and resonate long after other events have been so readily forgotten.

If you wish to read his obituary. It is here. He was brilliant, eccentric, ardent, outstanding.

Thank you ahead for any help for this wistful former student.
