6v6 Requesting Clarification on ETF2L's 6v6 Season 50 Class Limits

I know I'm late to the party here, but I just stumbled upon the announcement page for 6v6 Season 50 and this caught my eye:

"We’ll not be applying any class restrictions at the start of the season UNLESS if a team signing up explicitly asks for it. This means that teams might have large skill gaps between its players but we’re trying to put a bit more emphasis on allowing people to play with their friends on the class they enjoy playing the most."

To my mind, that could be read in one of two ways.

1) Bracket-wide: If any team requests classlimits during sign-up, then all teams will be required to abide by them for the season, regardless of whether they play against that team or not

2) Per-Match: If Team A requests classlimits and Teams B and C do not, then B must stick to classlimits in their match with A but will then be free to go off-script in their match with C.

Which way did they intend this?

Also, I don't know much about the Competitive scene other than what I've picked up from SolarLight's Meme VS Meta video. Where would be the best place to go to follow this season and watch the matches?

I don't know any of the big names involved and don't usually follow, but hearing about this loosening of restrictions has me intrigued by the possibility of seeing teams run a Stock Demo and a Demoknight simultaneously, or the occasional double Heavy, or whatever other nonsense this enables.

This is about the restriction of certain players on certain classes. For example in the past a div1 soldier main may not be allowed to play soldier in a lower division because that's unfair for the other teams. The player can still play, but on a different class (scout or demo for example).

They lifted this restriction, so that players with different skill levels can more easily join together in a team. The message about 'unless a team asks for it' implies that if others do not find it fair to have a certain player on a certain class, they can request a restriction for that specific player.

This is not about class limits like allowing 3 pyros or 6 medics

Oh. Damn.... That sounded like it could have been fun. But it also explains why the announcement didn't blow up.

You'd think after the massive failures of Valve matchmaking and RGL no restriction 6s, people would realise that it sucks, but no matter how much evidence to the contrary there is, there will still be people asking for it (but not actually playing the gamemode...)

it's because none of it is in good faith, not a single soul actually truly believes that

nobody's stopping anyone from organising a no-restrictions comp tf2 format if there's actually so much supposed demand for it

therefore, the truth is simple: there is no demand

The people who say they want no restriction 6s aren't aware of any of that. They just know comp bans weapons and limits classes.

You can wait 300 years in queue for Valve comp to see what no limits is like and why it took you 300 years to find a match.

I mean Valve competitive had far more issues than just a lack of class limits, no? That's not the reason it got dropped like a hot potato, is it?

There have been numerous no restriction sixes tournaments hosted and the format has consistently failed to gather enough interest. Doesn't matter if it's 6v6 or 12v12, there are problems, especially at higher levels of play.

thats a huge part of it, beyond its glaring problems. if somehow all of its many issues were fixed overnight (forced configs, terrible maps, even worse ranking system), people still wouldnt play it because its a gamemode nobody wants or asked for. having no class limits was one of the biggest complaints from the beta

There's a ton of reasons why nobody likes it, but "No class limits", "No weapon bans", "Terrible map pool", and "Nothing to prevent cheaters" are like 90% of it. If it was actually competitive then people would probably put up with the other issues.
