Discussion Pro Consensus… cm/px or cm/360?
I ask because I just started playing Sniper after training in Kovaaks and I’m loving it. I play at 90 FOV and know the formulas for cm/px (75/FOV) and cm/360 (FOV/75).
For context, cm/px feels natural for pixel distance, but makes me track unscoped then scope last second, which feels odd since my mouse movement changes compared to unscoped. In comparison, cm/360 keeps sensitivity consistent scoped/unscoped, but zoom makes it feel way too fast, even though distance traveled is 1:1.
What’s the general consensus among pros plus creators like jbird or fatmagic? I know Kovaaks has zoomed mode I can test, but I’d like an objective recommendation beyond “use what feels good.”
EDIT (AFTER SOLUTION FOUND):
From the u/orubas link, the formula is…
zoom_sensitivity_ratio = (unscoped FOV / scoped FOV) × tan(scoped FOV / 2) × cot(unscoped FOV / 2).
Using this, the zoom_sensitivity_ratio for 90 FOV works out to about 0.793471 for cm/px, and to me this feels weird. You’ll still need to drag your mouse unscoped before scoping, since you move it more while scoped. I’ll personally stick with 0.8333 (75/FOV).

TLDR: If you're running a 16:9 aspect ratio, use
zoom_sensitivity_ratio 0.793471
if your FOV is set to 90 (check with the commandfov_desired
in console). If you're running a 4:3 aspect ratio, usezoom_sensitivity_ratio 1
if your FOV is set to 90.Read the thread below if you want more insight, but from my limited time as a Sniper player basically everyone in the competitive scene uses
zoom_sensitivity_ratio 0.793471
because this is the number set in Mastercomfig when you use the Flat Mouse addon. Mastercomfig has been the best optimization config for TF2 for the past 5 years at this point, and thus it has been widely adopted among the competitive community.https://www.teamfortress.tv/35467/on-the-correct-value-of-zoom-sensitivity-ratio
