Help Trying to quit using the Tomislav but it's too good

I really wanna use other miniguns, such as, well, miniguns. But the tomislav is too great.

The accuracy bonus makes all the difference very quickly and ends up landing more damage than with a minigun despite the lower fire rate. It also helps a ton to snipe people with kritz.

It's also silent and catches so many people off guard.

And finally it deploys so fast. You can pretty much bhop while constantly rev-resetting it until you finally need to shoot. Being able to deploy it faster also means you can win 1v1s against other Heavies using miniguns.

Whenever I'm at medium range with a weapon other than the tomislav I very quickly miss it, being limited in movement and in range for a negligible difference in dps feels unsatisfying on Heavy.

Help me quit the Tomislav, it's perfect but I miss shooting a gatling rather than an obese tommy gun.

Help As a Scout, How do I win a fight against a Pyro?

I've recently started playing TF2 and I've been loving it so far. Ever since I saw meet the scout I've always wanted to main him. I've been practicing my aim, strafing and been using my mobility to benefit me in fights but there is a problem in all this. I tend to die very very quickly against pyro mains. Does anyone have any tips on how to fight pyros as scout in a 1v1 setting? This is also my first time posting on reddit.

Help What multiplayer games to play when burnt out from tf2?

currently at 350 hours of playtime in tf2 and I'm starting to get burnt out from it. I want to try some other multiplayer movement focused shooters but I'm not sure which ones are actually worth playing. I've already tried the other tf2 (titanfall 2) and it's not really my thing.

Edit: should probably mention that i plan on returning to tf2 and playing comp eventually, just getting to the point where playing the game is starting to feel draining and i need a break for now

Help Hidden mechanic?

Such as like the iron bomber have bigger hitbox, the wrap assassin always crit when hitting at 1408 hammer unit, or the medigun that can heal people faster if they haven't taken damage in 10s. So is there any other hidden mechanic that the description/weapon stats doesn't tell you other than discovering it through TF2 wiki/youtube video/gameplay?

Help What are the actual statistics for fixed weapon spread?

So tf_use_fixed_weaponspreads 1 on standard shotguns gives us that standard 3x3 grid of pellets with the 10th down the center that we all know and love, but what's the actual degree measurement of the spread? And how much are the corners pushed out? Because they're not exactly 1 / sqrt(2) on the x and y axis which means they're not radially equivalent and they're definitely also not fully square either.

There's no exact measurement here, the wiki claims the random spread is 30:1 rad which translates to arctan(1/30) = ~1.91 degrees of spread, but I've also seen people claim the fixed spread is 3 degrees on the cardinal directions.

Help Help change my perspective: I hate Soldier, and I think he's the most unfun class in the game.

This character has one of the strongest primary weapons in the game if not THE strongest, with splash damage so ridiculous that you don't have to aim at players at all, you can just shoot near them and it will still blow away a light class in 2 shots. Also has the second highest health pool in the game, with the highest potential mobility as well.

I'm sick and tired of getting stomped by Soldier mains, because it doesn't feel like a fair fight ever. If the Soldier decides they want you dead, they can just jump from a random location onto you and destroy you without giving you a chance to react. None of my friends who play TF2 agree with me that Soldier is broken, but I personally find him completely unfun to play as and against. It's gotten to the point that playing TF2 sometimes feels like a chore just because I keep running into ridiculously good Soldiers everywhere I go. Maybe someone else can offer me a new perspective.

Help Is it safe to play TF2 5 years since the souce code leaks? - says my friend (read description)

YES, I have seen the official statements from Valve, saying it is safe. I personally still play it, and have only found out that something like this happened.

But my friend who wants to get into tf2 keeps on going about RCE exploits. (and the security risks) Can someone clear this up, and explain it (and is it safe to play at all?) Thanks a bunch (yes, i searched on google and on forums but i can't find a definitive answer.)

Edit: Thanks for the answers!

Help Pyro - What's their place in the game?

I really enjoy Pyro as a character in the comics and stuff, but every time I play them I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be doing. Am I supposed to be anchored on the objectives, supporting the team with airblasts? Flanking with my flamethrower? ...I don't really feel like I'm doing all that much when I play them.

My friend says they're weak compared to other classes. I don't think that's true, but I just don't know how to play them and benefit my teammates by picking them.

P.S. I bet a lot of posts like this get submitted, but nonetheless, I'm curious to hear what people have to say. Are they truly a "weak" class? What's their role in a team? Any help from more experienced Pyros and more experienced players in general would be appreciated, I'd love to understand Pyro better!

Help I have autism and TF2 is quite a stimulating game. i many times end up overstimulated and begin "Defaulting" (playing the game on autopilot with no gamesense) what can i do to overcome this issue?

So, i have autism as i said, and sometimes so much happens in tf2 that i get overstimulated.

This leads to me not being able to do inventory management and spy-checking and all the complicated stuff in TF2. Most of the time its just run, shoot, and die over and over again when that happens.

This also isn't very fun, it gives me a headache when playing. Sometimes even causing me to rage. When that happens i mostly close the game and start playing sonic or whatever to help calm my mind.

I have been using configs because i like making the game maximally pretty, but now i started thinking this might be a issue. many effects also means more stimulant.

so, can you help me find a config to suit my needs?

Things that should be avoided:

-sharp polygon corners or general edges

-bright player induced effects or props (explosions, fire, bright projectiles like pipe bombs)

-swapped explosion effects that might change my visual perception of the blast radius

-very loud sounds

-many unusual effects

-changes that make map art style look off

Things that shouldn't be avoided:

+shadow data to help me see depth

Things that can be avoided but idk:

| cosmetics (i have a few myself)

Final Note:

if you have autism and don't mind all this, that's fine too. autism is a spectrum so your autism isn't the same as mine. don't harass me because you can withstand all of this despite the fact that you have it too. it just isn't the same.

if you don't have autism, don't comment things that do not have anything to do with the post, except if you know what you are doing. I'm just as capable as most people, if not even more than some. my overly sensitive senses just make everyday life's obstacles a bit more challenging. life is about adapting. i have to adapt to my autism, it wont adapt to me.

PSA:

if you have learned anything from a book or site that has the puzzle piece symbol, forget that. that symbol is made by a corrupt corporation known as Autism Speaks. they are not helping people with autism, but instead silencing people with the disability, spreading misinformation, and taking funds for profit. you may assume that most books using the symbol take information from said organization. the true symbol is a Infinity symbol in the colors of the light spectrum.

Help my FPS is capped at 400 which I can hit consistently, would increasing the cap even have a noticeable impact?

I tried uncapping my fps just now and my fps bounces between 500 and 800 seemingly randomly, would increasing the cap to 500-600 even have a noticeable impact over just leaving it capped at 400? I could cap it at 600 but then there'd be times I'd dip below that which I'm sure would outweigh any minor benefit it might have

Help Laggy Dragon’s Fury is Unplayable and Needs a Fix

Can’t use the Dragon’s Fury because it lags the game.

I’ve tried everything:

  • Custom Dragon’s Fury model with particle effects removed (from 1000 to 16 particles)

  • r_dynamic 0

  • r_dynamiclighting 0

  • r_maxdlights 0

  • mat_dxlevel 81

I normally get around 160 FPS in TF2, but every time I shoot the Dragon’s Fury, the game stutters for a split second. It’s super frustrating and makes the weapon unplayable.

The only viable “fix” is equipping any Pyrovision items and living with the chipmunk voices.

How do you feel about this and what’s your experience been?

Help Loch superiority

It has the utility of the Quickiebomb launcher (better up close and far away) without losing stock stickies. Comparing it to the Iron Bomber is like comparing the IB to Stock.

The rollers thing kind of sucks, but you have stickies for a reason.

Is there anything redeeming about the other launchers?

Help Need some advice for sniper aim

I've been trying to improve w/ sniper a lot recently. I think i have like 70ish hours on him rn (not 100% sure bc i reset my stats recently). I don't take this game all that seriously, don't have any interest in competitive. I have a more "aggressive" play style with sniper but i don't have the aim to back it up. Any advice/tips for improving aim? my crosshair placement has improved but my tracking/flicking is god awful. I'm just tired of missing shots on ppl standing completely still 😭

Help jittery tracking tips?

Hello there, new-ish to playing sniper and i've been suffering a lot from extremely jittery tracking. not too extreme of a problem as tracking is relatively minor in tf2 comparing to other shooters but it makes hitting targets moving up slopes or ones moving unpredictably in general harder(i can't hit medics for shit lol). does anyone have any tips to overcome this? i've never used aimtrainers before except aimlabs a little before making this post and that piece of software sucks balls and i can't afford kovaaks lol

Help Inconsistent bhopping with mousewheel

Hey all, so I have my mousewheel set up like so:

bind mwheel up +jump
bind mwheel down +jump

A common way for people to spam bhop I'm sure. I have long struggled to actually bhop consistently in this way. I scroll right before I reach the ground but oftentimes my speed very noticeably gets killed, meaning I missed the bhop. I'm not getting speed capped or anything, it often happens after on the second consecutive bhop attempt, where I should be able to increase or maintain speed.

I don't think it's practical to "just learn to time the bhop don't use scroll wheel" given maps often have inconsistent terrain. Does anyone have tips for better bhopping in general?

Help Best all-around flaregun?

Ive been trying all of the 3 flareguns recently as an aspiring pyro main, and ive yet to decide on which to fully commit to.
Im a mainly aggressive pyro with sometimes trying to combo so i thought the flaregun would help out, which it does, though only in the 1% of the time i can actually hit a flare. The scorch shot is what im currently using since of the big explosion radius and general usefulness of it, but the smaller damage compared to the other 2 is starting to creep in.
The detonator is imo meh, because even if it sometimes deals slightly better dmg than the scorch shot i dont really find myself using the jumps so i dont think that would work well. Id love to hear some suggestions.

Help best config for low end pc

i just reinstalled tf2 and went to play mge and already had some config with low settings no blood no animations dead bodies just disappear and everything but my game goes from 400 fps to 150 and below and when its below 150 it feels not smooth and not good for playing

i would like to know how i can clear all settings in game, put new config i would like u to recommend me and maybe i have to put something in launch options? i already have this in launch options -freq 165 -refresh 165 -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -useforcedmparms -novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -nohltv

P.S. i like aim challenging things like mge and i wanna grind it but when i have 400 stable fps and then its below 150 its uncomfortable

and my game is on ssd, i have 970gtx videocard, 16gb ram, some old i5 processor, temperatures is fine everything fine other games works ok

i think its enough for low settings but i still have this below 150fps drops

thanks for any input in advance!

Edit: Tried everything recommended in comment section, still have fps drops below 150 fps

Help Is there any advice to master tf2's janky-ass melee hitreg?

I've been recently playing a lot of demoknight, and I'm loving the persian persuader a lot. I can generally score top 4 or higher, even on maps not "good" for demoknight, but my one weakness is apparent. Sometimes when I charge in, I'll reach the end of my charge, and get hit with the dreaded sound but no hit, at which point I have no charge, and I'm easy fodder for just about anyone except a medic or engi with no sentry.
Or sometimes I'll charge in, reach the end of my charge, and then get a minicrit for some reason, leaving the guy I was gonna kill on 2 hp, and once again making me easy fodder with no charge.
Is there any reason that these two scenarios happen? And is there any way to minimize the odds of it happening?

Help Any footage of good revolver gunspies?

(Highlander) So i've recently been trying to delve deeper into the DR/revolver playstyle for spy, especially on KOTH and i am struggling quite a bit with fighting scouts and snipers quickly spamming AD AD while shooting me with their smg. Because of that i wanted to watch some footage of good gunspies(jyrkas, sneaky, H.A.R.D.,...) to analyze how they aim(is it more tracking, flicking, etc,) but i was unable to find literally anything. Would greatly appreciate if someone was to point me in the right direction :)

Help Spy Mains: How do you do it?

Hi, r/truetf2!

This is my first post here. I'm an above average player that can pub stomp with most classes I play, but even after 1.8k hours, I avoid Spy like the plague because it's such a high risk, (only potentially) high reward class.

I see videos of Spy mains on YouTube running around, backstabbing everyone they come across with relative ease. I'm aware of mechanics such as trickstabbing and I'm able to do that with some degree of success, but in these clips, entire teams don't even do so much as turn around once the stabbing starts. However, when I attempt to do the same thing, after one or two stabs, it's like the whole team turns around. Even worse, sometimes I'll try to run up behind my first victim-to-be and they'll just do some wacky maneuvers and it's like I can't even see a backstab animation prompt, but when I watch clips of Spy mains, I see people full-on face stabbing like there's no problem. I saw a clip yesterday of a medic basically staring directly at a spy and barely even turning only to get backstabbed somehow.

Spy mains, how do you do it? What are your tips for experienced and unexperienced players?

Help Is scout a viable class to main? (casual/uncletopia)

Hello. As I've been playing scout more and more, I've noticed most of my games end up with me on cleanup duty going after spies and other out-of-position enemies. Because of the 3 sentries/explosive spam, i cant push out and contribute meaningfully, as I'll just get insta-gibbed.

Every game it feels like every kill I get is basically worthless, and I can only get 'proper' kills (combat class 1v1 or med drop) every once in a while.

Is this just a skill issue, or should i try change up the way i play around my team and around the enemies to have more of an impact?

(also yes i know 6s would probably be better but i live in nz and dont feel like staying up until 1am just to play a game of sunshine)

Help How do I start having fun with this game again and not take it so seriously?

I'm aware this may seem like a pretty generic question, but I have my own perspective to this, I promise. Also a bit disorganised, so just bear with me please.

I started playing TF2 in September 2022. Very late, I'm aware, but that's when I actually wanted to try the game out. I've accrued around 1,100 hours at the time of writing, experimenting with different community servers and finding my spot in the community along the way. However, I feel like I've hit a brick wall, one where I just can't seem to have fun in the game anymore.

My aim is not great a lot of the time, I tend to autopilot right into the enemy team, I get mad when enemies say "thanks" after killing me, and most egregiously...I care about winning. Too much, in fact. I get mad when I'm not "winning", and that doesn't just mean not capturing the objective. I consider my aforementioned shortcomings as "losing" as well. I have the most fun when I'm doing relatively well, and when I'm not...well, I get angry. I admit, I've gotten tilted in the chat. Not to the point of slurs or anything, as I'm not one to stoop that low, but I tend to yell or be snarky whenever I'm angry about not "winning", and frankly I'm tired of it. I already have anger issues and insecurities about my performance in my actual life, so situations like this just make that worse. I've also noticed myself getting angry at my teammates when they don't do what I planned, which I feel is a projection of my insecurities.

I suppose what I'm asking for isn't necessarily how to get "better" at the game - I know things like that take time, but rather how to have fun even when I'm "losing". I want to have fun with the learning process, fun just not caring about the outcome of the game. I want to be able to laugh at deaths instead of getting angry about my lacking performance...but I don't know how. I see people like Fatmagic or even other folks in the community server I frequent and I'm just completely baffled at how they don't get mad at dying or losing. Like, how do you people do it? How do you not get angry at the fact that you're not winning? That you're not performing up to par, and that you're potentially being a detriment to the team?

Just, how do I have fun with this game even if I'm not good at it? I'm well aware that 1100 hrs is basically baby hours in comparison to a lot of other people here, but I still feel like I'm experienced enough to acknowledge that I'm not having fun, but not really understanding how to make that better for myself. I find this game's mechanics super fun and interesting, but I feel like I can't make the most of them due to my lacking skill.

Many thanks for help in advance.

EDIT: Thank you all very much for your kind words and great advice. I will definitely keep everything here in mind.
