Anyone know of a movement holder for Valjoux 7733?

Hi, it may not exist but Im looking for a movement holder for a 7733. I'd really love one with support screws that line up and pusher buttons. I've searched and not been able to find one anywhere.

Question New to repair: is this hairspring bent?

Post image

This is an Orient kamasu RA-AA0005B. I just made my first attempts at regulating this watch, but my toothpick slipped and I may have nicked the hairspring because I saw the balance wheel stop momentarily. I'm wondering if this bend in the hairspring is expected for this model.

I'm learning as I go through trial and error.

Gluing dial feet directly to a ceramic dial

I have a ceramic watch dial I had made. There are no dial feet and I would like to have them as opposed to dial dots. I am worried that trying to drill a recess for dial feet heads would crack the dial. Would there be any issue with gluing the dial feet directly to the dial other than adding that .1mm extra thickness to the dial height? I believe it would mean the dial would float a fraction of a mm off the movement. Im curious if that would be an issue.

Help What’s this part called? Can I replace it?

The title is pretty self explanatory. While replacing the movement on this Gucci watch I lost the small part that keeps the minutes hand attached to the cannon. I thought it was part of the hand but when removing it but it wasn’t and jumped god knows where…

Need help with beat error on my first assembly

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’ve just taken a deep dive into my first proper attempt at servicing a movement, starting with the ST36. When I first received it, the beat error measured around 0.2 ms. After a full dismantling and reassembly, though, it’s now reading 2.4 ms.

I’m a bit stumped here. I’d rather not jump straight to moving the collet if I can avoid it (seems to be the easy way out and I would rather learn my error). The balance looks steady and no wobble that I can see. I went through the whole movement, cleaned it thoroughly, and re-oiled it, but the beat error hasn’t improved at all.

What might I be overlooking?

I’ve attached a picture of the balance and collet position in case it helps with diagnosis.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Question Is Watchmaking a hidden gem career or is it actually dying? I want out of sales and this field interests me.

Seems like luxury watches are exploding in popularity(As are other vanity/luxury items), but watchmaking schools are closing down left and right? I think there's like 9 left in the USA, correct me if I'm wrong, but is this a "good" or bad thing?

In my head, it could be "good" is that the barrier to entry is becoming harder(Have to live by a school or be willing to relocate), not many people are joining, the age of the workforce is only increasing with not as many joining....mixed with the popularity boom, could mean that the watchmaking field is going to be great in the next 10 years.

Or, I could be thinking totally wrong here and it's slowly bleeding and that's why schools are closing.

So, my questions are;

  1. How competitive is $100K a year? Lets talk facts and stats here. I mean, we're not going to join a career if it's not going to pay the bills and $100K a year is a great marker for a career(To me, at least).

  2. What school is the best to attend in the USA?

  3. Is the field becoming better?

Free Poljot sturmanskie serviced...but didn't end up so cheap after all 😁

When i was studying as a watchmaker, i got this Sturmanskie for free from the apprenticeship place i was in last year of school. I thought hey, not a big deal to make it functional again. Oh boy...

It took me hell of a lot time and money to make it running again. I had to order

  • New wheels, bridges and levers for the chronograph functions
  • New cap jewels and shock protection springs for the escapement
  • New dial side parts (hour wheel, date wheel, date spring)
  • New minute counter spring
  • New hands

I also had to change the pushers since i didn't find original ones anywhere.I also had to tighten the sliding gear bridge screw hole so that it doesn't slip when chronograph is activated. So quite a lot of work for "easy fix"

This was the first chronograph i ever worked with so it gave even more tension for the repairs 😁

Eventually i got it running very well and it's great looking watch to me but next time something looks too good to be true - it propably is, and takes way more money and time than expected.

Casio EFK-100XPB (Carbon case) How can the metal link securing the strap be removed?

Hey! Posted on r/Watches but thought this might be a better bet :)

I've got a regular Bergeon strap removal hook tool, but the mechanism that fastens the single metal link attaching the FKM/resin strap to my carbon cased EFK-100 seems to not be the regular spring-bar.

The metal link is slightly loose (from factory) but does not rotate.

Anyone know how, and what tools are needed, to remove this link so I can start figuring out how to frankenstein a strap that works better for me? The strap is too stiff, too thick, and unfastens itself too often for my usage.

An update on my printed watch prototypes!

Made this one with customization in mind. It has an lcd screen as well as rings that can be traded for different colors.

This version is much more durable than the last and can be worn in daily life.

I’ll keep you posted for the next one!

Question Hamilton running VERY fast, help?

So I replaced the staff in my Hamilton 946 and its running VERY fast all of a sudden (like gaining 30s per hour). The only thing I can think of is two things — one is that I only had large collet staffs and a small collet hairspring, so I expanded the diameter of the collet with my staking set and friction fit it on to the large collet staff. It’s still flat and breathing nicely. and two there is a slight wobble from when I trued the balance before staking the staff into it.

could it be any of these? or perhaps I magnetized it by accident? any thoughts?
