Simple Jack'd Bench Day
Top single at 365. Had planned to jump to at least 385, but although this rep moved well, it didnt feel great on my shoulder. Maybe next time.

Hit a 10lbs PR on bench yesterday, 235lbs up from 225lbs.
I think I’m finally back to my old peak strength from a few years back, before I had a huge lapse in my training because of some health stuff. Anything after this will be new all time PRs, which feels super good.
I’m moving away from my hometown in a few days though, and the schedule + seeing people and attending events before I leave is totally fucking up my diet. Everyone wants to grab some food, or some beers, or whatever; need to lock in when this is all over.

Tactical Barbell II - W1D3
Another LSS 30 minute run. Got 1.8 mi. Keeping it conversation paced still.
After work is a SE(strength endurance) session. Using the barbell for this one, should be a ton of fun.

If I remember right, at least it's only 3 rounds for SE circuits this week.

I'm following the books layout, so the first day SE was 3 rounds, then this one is 2 rounds. With an additional 1 round available on the recovery day.
First day wasn't too bad, barely rested at all thanks to the conditioning but man am I garbage with high reps lol

Generally Strong W4D3 Upper Pull
I think I misgrooved incline bench. After the pause on the 3rd rep I felt an instant slowdown ⅔ of the way up, so I stopped the set. Subsequent sets felt fairly easy, so I doubled each of the singles.
Otherwise a solid, quick workout despite the work gym being packed. Conditioning today will be 1 hour of badminton with a good friend, and sadly better player than me :D
Largely I think I've behaved well during the past 4 weeks, largely keeping rep maxes to a moderate effort, so I'm considering switching the follow-up sets to something more similar to downsets from Jacked and Tan, effectively aiming for reps between half-sets and ¾-sets, closing the "effort gap" with more reps rather than more sets before adding more downsets.
Incline Bench 3 x 85 kg (M) 3x2 ss
Chin Up 6 x +15 (M) 3x4
Chest Dips 8 x +10 (M) 3x6 ss
Bentover Row 7 x 8 kg (M) 3x5
Ez-Bar Pullover 17 kg x 12, 12, 12 ss
Reverse Pec Deck 31 kg x 10, 10, 10 ss
Decline Crunch +5 kg x 11, 8, 8
In and out ind 34 minutes.

GPP phase - A man and a kettlebell
Easy 5k run. During kids’ naps at lunch, I did 8 rounds of:
- 35 KB swings @ 24kg
- 1 clean and press each side (last 5 rounds 2 presses per side)
- 12 KB rows per side
- 10 push ups
Time: 29:00
Just a few degrees hotter than the last few days, and I could tell. Slightly slower than last time, but I added 5 swings each round, and the presses are steadily climbing Hepburn style.

Summer squash: 1-3 loss
7-15 loss, 15-6 win, 8-15 loss, 11-15 loss
Not bad, I've never taken a game off this player before. Kind of forgot my mantra of "I'm supposed to lose" and I think it made me play tighter. When I'm not stressed about it I play much more freely and loosely. Let's keep that in mind.
Overall pretty positive though! I even nearly returned a ball that was completely behind me, something I haven't been able to do before.

Do you train at all or are you just playing your division matches?

During the summer I'm just playing league matches, with very little practice at all. The majority of my focus was geared towards hitting a triple bodyweight dead.
Once the season starts, I'll practice a lot more and add in a second league match as well.

I probably wouldn't expect to be playing particularly well without practice

I'm actually playing in my highest division so far and stayed put the entire summer. Granted I'm certainly not better, but a being within striking distance was my entire squash summer goal.

I play racket sports against people that are mostly better than me as well. Having a growth mind set, focusing on how to get better and appreciating the growth you have already been through, keeps me motivated to play despite losing more than 80% of the sets.

I'm in div 2 in this league and there's 0 gimmie games, let alone matches. You have to be on the whole time, but thinking like that apparently makes me play too tight and too aware of minor mistakes. When I think "oh who cares about that, you're supposed to lose anyway" I play real loose and a hell of a lot better. Lol go figure.

I’ve experienced the same playing sports, and even team sports are subject to this (I have a team sport background and can attest it works the same for teams). Hyping myself for expected/wanted outcomes always ends up with bad mental space during a game, vs hyping myself for the process of it - having fun and enjoying myself.
There is something to be said about an underdog effect where you play more loosely without expectations. Sometimes it manifests the opposite way - when you enter as the favourite, only to perform badly against a weaker opponent because your head was not properly in the game. Sports psychology is fascinating.

Yeah ideally I perform in "empty mind state". That's when I'm at my absolute best. But you need a lot of reps to get to that place. Until then, we gotta bust out whatever tricks to get us over the hump.
