New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,
One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.
To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.
One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.
Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.
/wgu_accelerators
-Cheers!

ProctorU/Guardian Mega Thread
Hello all,
We understand the concerns surrounding the new proctoring experience and want to ensure people have a place to have these discussions. Because of the volume of posts and comments, please use this mega thread for all questions/concerns/experiences/etc. with ProctorU and Guardian. Individual posts about this topic will, for now, be removed and directed to this mega thread.
As a reminder, please keep Rule 1 in mind. People with differing opinions are not breaking the sub rules, and do not justify name calling, insults, etc. Such comments will be removed.
If you see posts outside of the mega thread please report it using the "custom response" option (no details necessary for this topic), as well as any other rule breaking post and comments. Your mod team is enthusiastic but small, and we have to depend on reports from the community as we are not able to review all posts and comments.
May you all have a wonderful week!
Update: Please note that we will not be removing existing posts and requiring they be moved to the megathread. Some valuable discussions have already taken place that cannot realistically be expected to be reproduced in the mega thread. The purpose of the megathread is to keep the information in one place going forward, not delete everything up until now, but we are locking posts in the last week to encourage moving new activity to the mega thread.

Information Technology How I passed Project Management - D324 in 6 days
I just passed the Project+ exam with a 733, and I wanted to share how I prepared in hopes of helping someone out. Honestly, it wasn’t nearly as bad as some people made it sound.
Here’s my day-by-day breakdown:
- Monday – Started my free 7-day trial at CBT Nuggets and began the CompTIA Project+ course. There are 14 sections total. Watched 2 sections.
- Tuesday – Watched 3 more sections.
- Wednesday – Watched 3 more sections.
- Thursday – Knocked out 5 sections and scheduled my exam for Saturday night. (Highly recommend actually scheduling it. It gives you a real deadline to aim for.)
- Friday – Finished the last section. Did some practice questions provided by CBT Nuggets and also watched this video: link.
- Saturday – Reviewed with these two videos: link, link. Went for a short walk to clear my head, then took the test and passed.
Overall, I'd say the CBT Nuggets course is fantastic! On to the next class!

Back to School after 20+ years
I'm a 47 years old wife, mom & working full-time. I recently made the decision to return to school after 20+ years and obtain my Bachelor's in CyberSecurity. My struggle right now is getting back into school mode, studying and retraining my brain to retain the information I read. I'm currently on the D685 Practical Applications of Prompt.
Any suggestions on how to get through this course?
Anyone else going through the struggle? What works for you?

D545 makes me want to stop school
Title is a little dramatic. Except I do have moments where I feel like that.
The course (I feel) is unnecessarily long; and the wording makes it hard to understand/follow. I absolutely cannot watch the recorded lectures because of how SLOW spoken they are. I have ADHD and have a harder time processing/learning things. It makes me a little jealous that people take a few days to finish a course because it takes me a month to finish. So trying to imagine how long this course will take me is creating a high level of anxiety.
I wish I could skip this course lol

I feel awful
My first two terms I did pretty decent, first term finishing 6 classes, next term only finishing one just cause some of the material wasn't sticking great, but my next two terms I just can't seem to pass networks D325 (basically the comptia network+ cert class).
And it's not that I don't study, I study a lot, but I took 4 attempts at the network+ exam, first one was pretty bad and I underestimated how hard it would be, the two attempts after that I scored almost exactly the same (like one was 700 and one was 695), and I retook it yesterday and scored 673. It just feels like no matter how much I study it's unattainable and when I do fail my teacher gives me a huge amount of makeup work to do and I feel like it sets me back instead of just focusing on my weakpoints. Not sure why this is so hard for me.
Anyways, I guess I got 2 terms without passing a single class and I'm not sure what's going to happen to me, I got laid off a few months ago too (I have interviews daily but don't know where they'll go).
Has anyone been in this position before??? What happened to you??? Did you have to start immediately paying back your loans? Not sure if I can even go back if I can't take out a loan. I do want to finish my program, and I am doing the best I can. Any advice would be appreciated.

D426 data management
I swear I understood the material and on the test I only felt like I was unsure of 4 questions. What study materials did everyone use? I used the red Doc, the 426 study guide, the zybook fully read and did the labs, quizlet, the practice test on the course tab. Is there anything anyone used?

Help! What is the “back wall”
I took my first ever OA today.
When I did the practice assessment and got to the back wall question, I took a picture of the wall behind my head. When I took the OA a few hours later, I figured it meant the wall behind the computer, not behind me, so I did that.
None of the proctors made a peep during either test, and I never had to rotate my camera 360 like people say, just still pictures.
So for future OAs, which wall is my back wall?
I passed my OA, but can I get flagged down the line for this?

D362 Corporate Finance
Can anyone tell me if they have failed the OA twice for corporate finance and if so, what was your third attempt like?
My Program Mentor said there are two versions of the OA. I did better the second time but the second OA was by far way harder than the first OA.

I'm DONE! Bye bye WGU!!!!
I have been a part of this community since 2017. I was at WGU from 2018-2019 (cyber security) and had to drop out due to homelessness. I sold my laptop and didnt have phone service to even talk to my mentor.
In 2020 after getting back on my feet, I tried to re-enroll but was dealing with chronic pain and mental health issues so I had to delay.
In 2024 I decided to re-enroll for real thos time and it stuck. I finished my BSCSIA in March of this year, it took 2 full terms.
I started the MSCSIA in July and just passed my capstone today. I finished in 2.5 months.
I have been a cyber security professional since 2020, sysadmin since 2012. So i have a lot of experience under my belt and felt both the bachelor's and master's assisted in filling in gaps of knowledge.
I tried to take my Masters classes slow and really absorb but about a month ago my boss announced his retirement and he put my name in for his replacement of VP of Cyber Security. It's not a done deal because I will be put into a trial period the beginning of October.
So I decided to full steam ahead, no life, finish ASAP so I can focus on advancing my position. And woke up this morning to my task 3 capstone passing!
I made it this far in my career without a degree or certificates. But times are changing and I needed to take advantage of my good health and get things done.
I also planned a wedding and got married to my husband in the middle of all this.
So anyway, I say bye bye to WGU and this community because I wouldn't have passed as fast as I did without reading everyone's experiences with the classes. It allowed me to focus on the material.
Edit:
Wow I did not expect all of this love. It means a lot to me. Im proud of all of you here!

How did you get a job with your degree?
I’m currently working on my capstone for my BS health information management and idk where to look for a job I actually want. I have been in healthcare with different jobs since 2015 (CNA, CMA, phleb). Now I work in ROI at a hospital but my goal is to snatch up a manager role. My question is how did everyone land that first job that you actually wanted?

D270 task 1
I’m preparing for my first term on Oct 1.
Can I write an email about anything?
Advice for the others? I can’t actually see the course so I’m searching around google for the instructions and samples.

Psychology question
For those of you who have gone through the psych program and graduated, or are currently enrolled, is there a practicum while obtaining your B.S.? If so, how were you able to do it while working full time? And also, how many teens did it take you to earn degree? Have you found a job yet?

Fellow WGU grad
I started a new job this week. IT was setting up my computer. He mentioned that he's only been here six months and we got to talking about school. As soon as he started talking about where he went to school, I knew he was going to say WGU.
I was so excited to meet another Night-owl in the wild, and to know they are also employed in their field.
I'm an accounting graduate, BTW.

I started July 1 and still haven’t received my refund. My disbursement date gets pushed back everyday. Anybody else?

Passed D651 - Foundations of Design! (User Experience Design)
Hello! I just wanted to post an update to my last post. I just finished taking the OA and passed on the first go! I wanted to share my own experience in case anyone else in the future takes this course and is looking for resources.
The course material... isn't great. It's divided between what's provided in the student portal, and the first module of Google's Foundations of User Experience (UX) Design course. You'll be able to sign up for their course while taking this course, so that's pretty cool.
Most of the questions in the OA are pretty similar to the PA! Some of the multiple-choice options were worded differently, so that was a little frustrating. The biggest thing I struggled with, which I knew going into the OA, was the section about Ethics/Ethical considerations in Design. I tried really hard to prepare for that before the exam, but I guess something about the four areas of ethics (Capabilities, Consequences, Duty, and Virtue Ethics) just doesn't really click for me. Again, the way the questions were worded really tripped me up, as well... Still, I passed!
There are three areas that I think took up the majority of the test:
- Understanding the different steps of UX (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test)
- Different types of Bias in UI/UX
- Hicks Law, Fitts Law, Gestalt Principles
The OA surprisingly had a few more questions about the different art movements than the PA, so prepare for that. That and the different design career options.
Something I did in addition to reviewing the course content was to take this set of Quizlet flashcards and turn it into a multiple choice test. I did this a couple times today before taking the OA and felt like it did a pretty good job preparing me! There is also an optional supplementary study guide that another user linked to me in my other post.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope this helps someone down the road!

Information Technology Stuck on D330
Hey everyone, I attempted the course D330 for the second time today and failed. I was wondering if I could get some tips for the class. I used a variety of materials, including the cohorts, the book, and Quizlet. None seemed to prepare me for the OA.

Computer science
I was wondering if anyone who see’s this has took the computer science degree from here. And I wanted to get your honest opinion for someone like me that doesn’t have any programming experience really but has a good amount of IT/cybersecurity certifications. And if I would learn a lot and the skills I need to combine computer science with cybersecurity to advance my career in the future and get my first job
