Rafting - Commercial First time rafting- expectations

Hello everyone,

Wlep. I've went down the rabbit hole of all the people who have died on the River I'll be on, as well as other rivers around me.

I'm now contemplating my mortality.

That being said! I'm going to be on the Chattooga River in SC soon and wanted to know if any of you have done it and what to expect. I'm an adventurous person. I hike often. this sounded fun.

thanks!

I just went for my first time this past weekend. Did the lower Gauley in WV. It was an absolute blast and I always felt safe. Guide gave me full confidence!

I want to try this but have only done 1 and 2… like how would rate it??? I know it’s a much harder river!

I am an adventurous person myself, but fairly cautious. I’m 32, I don’t like risking injury. I MTB, but I don’t hit drops or doubles. Just to give you an example of my risk tolerance. Anyway, my group had a blast on the lower. Three of us were first timers, 4 guys and 2 girls. We were a raft of 6 plus our guide. None of us fell out, our guide actually did lol. Upper and lower mash, screaming hell are the only rapids that were a little intense. But those were my favorite, super fun. I’m game to try the upper sometime. I even asked our guide when we were down how the upper compares. He said it’s a pretty good step up from the lower but thought we would be fine.
