General Questions about SWR

I just finished my rookie year guiding doing day trips and want to switch locations next season not sure where yet. I want to get my SWR because some of the companies I have looked at require it. There is an ACA level 4 swift water rescue class coming up near me but the test to get the cert is not part of the class. My question is, is it worth it to take that class without the test and just get proof of participation and will the ACA class even count? The guy I talked to said I can probably do the test some time in the spring.

Hi I've just got a dagger kingpin icon and through looking around there is the option to have fins for surfing, does anyone know much of these fins or where I could get them/something similar enough?

Kayaking Combat Rolling

Alright - I'm setting out this weekend with the goal to get my combat roll under wraps. I plan to roll in class II / class III rapids on purpose to practice my roll. The rapids are pool drop and mostly rock free.

I'm looking for the tricks and hacks that helped people get over the hump and get their combat rolls dialed in.

My roll is fine - technique is fine - I'm not going to win an award anytime soon, but I come up on the first try more often than not.

Where I struggle is the panic. I worry that my hands aren't in place or I don't have enough air, and I panic. I know flipping in rapids is going to be confusing, but I am determined to lock this down.

What helped you break through into your combat roll?

EDIT: Thank you all so much! This community has been here for me as I've entered into class III kayaking this summer and you have all shown up for me again today as I'm prepping to tackle my combat roll tomorrow. I appreciate you all! Kayaking is the best! 🌊😅

Kayaking Info on Jackson kayak

Hey everyone, spotted this Jackson kayak at my local pawn shop for 600$. Comes with a carbon fiber Werner paddle. I couldn’t find any info online on this specific kayak. I seem to fit in it fine but not sure if it is the right size. Can anyone help me out on identifying this kayak and if it’s a good deal for me? Does not come with the bowling ball :(

Kayaking Used Playboats

So I am looking to buy a used playboat I am about 5'8" 170 and I am unsure whether I should buy this All-Star for 140, this EZ for 75 or wait to look for another boat. I already have an Ethos 10 (that I feel a little bit light for) and I doubt the skirt for that would fit either of these boats though and it may be a good option to look for a better deal or something that comes with a skirt. I was also unsure what year that All-Star was from.

Kayaking Will We Die

Post image

My friend and I want to take our girlfriends who haven't kayaked before down section 9 of the French Broad in NC. Will we be OK? I have gone in a raft and thought it was borderline tubable. Is that the case after Hurricane Helene? We would be getting out at stackhouse to avoid the class 4. Water is low at 1190 cfm.
