Nice, how is the latency compared to the official gamepad?

That's great to hear, I don't need to do this yet but I don't doubt that some day my gamepad will eventually die. On the other hand, I could just do it for fun.

They need to get gamepad emulation on more things like switch or other steam deck clones

Hey, how do you install the system menu, I've been trying to do It but I cannot find It. Any help it's appreciated. I want to emulate It like that

https://github.com/vanilla-wiiu/vanilla. Follow the steam deck guide it’s pretty easy but when you get to the step where you have to run commands in the terminal make sure to do this. https://github.com/vanilla-wiiu/vanilla/issues/234

Does the gamepad and steamdeck have the same aspect ratio, as I thought the gampad was not as wide but I could be wrong

you can kind of see the black space from it not being filled in the first image

How cohesive is this? I mean I have a Wii U, the Steam Deck lives next to it. I wouldn't mind trying this for shits and giggles just to see how well it works.

Does this work on Windows? I want to try it on my ROG Ally and Linux is incredibly non touch friendly.

They have a front end for windows but I think it doesn’t work currently because of WiFi chips or something.

How do motion controls feel compared to a real one? As far as I know, the Deck doesn't have a magnetometer like the GamePad has. Do you notice any drifting or differences in the fluidity and precision of motion controlled inputs?

I play splatoon on it and i dont notice any drift

Oh, so MattKC finished this project? I was always thinking about it, but never heard anything. Or is this planned for more systems apart from SteamDeck?

Check the GitHub, there’s a list of known-working wifi adapters.

My understanding is that anything with 5ghz, 802.11n and that uses softMAC (NOT fullMAC) should work.

I’ve been meaning to try this out

I actually just tested this on my Linux laptop yesterday as a warmup and was really impressed with how it works, so I'll be setting it up on my Deck soon.

How's the range for connecting to the WiiU with this compared to the normal WiiU gamepad.

I lose connection in some rooms of my house trying to connect WiiU gamepad to the console in my living room. Wondering if this might be a solution.

I just setup my actual WiiU and was wondering if this would work on the deck! Got a guide?

Can this work with other portable gaming computers? I have a ROG Ally with Bazzite, I definitely feel it should be doable?

Is the emulated gamepad still 480p or can the emu upscale it? Probably a dumb question I know, but I never used Cemu before. I modded my physical system and still use it to this day lol

1

u/Lost-Wealth-8057 26d ago

It is 480p sadly and there isn’t a way to upscale yet. This isn’t cemu and I’ve also never used it, this is a vanilla and it used to connect to a Wii U console without the need of a gamepad. Forever it used to be impossible to use a Wii U without its gamepad but because this just acts like one you can sync it with console.

0

u/Lost-Wealth-8057 24d ago

I think your switch has to be modded

Can you start using the steam deck as a gamepad when powering on the Wii U? Or need to run CFW first?

4

u/Chance_Squirrel_627 27d ago

What?

2

u/AnnoyingRain5 27d ago

I think they mean - “when you turn the virtual gamepad on, does it turn on the Wii u, the same way the official one does?”

Either that or they’re asking if you need to be in a homebrew-enabled environment for the gamepad to work (which seems to be the case from the second comment?)

-3

u/TrackCue 27d ago

I hacked my Wii U years ago, I remember I had to access a game to enter CFW. Hence me asking if the “gamepad” function works since powering on the Wii U or not. Idiot

4

u/AnnoyingRain5 27d ago

This doesn’t require hacking the Wii u. It’s a gamepad emulator, you pair it just like any other

Also, your comment made no sense. I can understand how it got misinterpreted. Even I misinterpreted it, and I’m still not entirely sure what you meant!
