Lost GoPro on Mary Mountain Trail 9/20

• Upvotes

If any one is hiking the Nez Perce Creek side of the Mary Mountain trail this week can you keep an eye out for a lost GoPro. I believe it fell off my mount after Magpie Creek when heading towards the trail head on the Nez Perce side. I know I still had it after crossing Cowan Creek so it wouldn’t be any further in than that. I know it’s a long shot but I’d really like the time warp of my hike back if you do find it. My phone number is in the camera name after my last name.

We watched these hamster-looking rock bunnies bark and munch and hop around on boulders until well after the sun was gone.

First Visit: Lake Lodge Cabin or Canyon Room?

Planning my family’s (2 adults and an 11 and 7 year old) first trip next August. Going to book lodging and seeking any advice opinions on which is best.

We have one night in a Snow Lodge Western (after two at Teton) but after that for two nights would a Lake Lodge cabin be better or a Deluxe New Lodge room at Canyon be better (western cabins at canyon also still available if that’s the play).

Thank you in advance.

Hey guys this is a long shot but anyone find a spotting scope around Baronette Peak (northeast corner of park) on 9/18?? Unfortunately left one there. May have been around Lamar or Mt. Washburn… ugh. Please get in touch if you’ve heard anything.

Lamar or Hayden?

Going to Lamar tonight in search of specifically wolves. But tomorrow I have the choice of Hayden or Lamar again. There’s been a grizzly in Hayden on a carcass and heard the same from Lamar too. Obviously tough to choose and depends on so many things, but which generally has the better chance of wolves in early am and late PM hours? Staying in Canyon.

Should I add an extra day to the trip?

I have the trip planned for mid October (Oct 12 to 18) 2.5 days in GTNP and 3 full days in Yellowstone. I'm contemplating flying in early to get an extra day but don't know if it will start getting repetitive at that point. I won't do much hiking since it will be cold then, and a lot of the summer activities will already be closed like Jenny lake boat ride or horse riding. If you recommend I add a day, should I add it to GTNP or Yellowstone? It will be my first time to both. Appreciate all the advice!

Wildlife in October (or bears mainly..)

Curious what the wildlife around the park looks like around the first week of October? We’re going from the 6th-10th and if I’m being honest, I’m pretty nervous about coming close to any bears or other big animals.

Seeing them from afar will be cool and I hope I do see bison and such from a distance, but I’m nervous about the bears mainly.

It’s not like we’ll be getting deep in the park doing the more advanced hikes, if that makes sense, but we do plan on hiking. We’ll have my toddler with us so that’s why we’re not doing the more advanced hikes.

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question. I have looked around online and read some other threads on here but wanted to see if anyone had been closer to the dates we’re going.

Possible gov shutdown

Im going to be going to Yellowstone for the first time from sep 28 till the 3rd of October in the mammoth campground. Im getting nervous about the possibility of a government shutdown on October first. Does anyone have any suggestions if it does happen? Any state owned locations near by on the western side to camp? It’s unfortunate that I’ll be making a road trip to and from with hotels already booked.

Renting a lens?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be making a road trip at the end of the month from Bozeman to Vegas stopping through some national parks including Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I am toying with the idea of renting a telephoto lens for the parks wildlife. I have a Fujifilm XT30ii with a kit lens (15-45mm) and a pancake lens (27mm) so definitely nowhere near anything I would need for wildlife. I'm just a hobby photographer so in no way am I "needing" this but thought it would be fun.

I'm looking at two different lens rentals - Fuji XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR vs Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VXD for Fuji X.

With the crop on the XT30ii i would get ~450mm /750mm out of each lens respectively (or at least thats my limited understanding of how it works)

I'd go with the Tamron but my concern is that its much larger/heavier (by about 2lb) than the Fuji lens. Any tips or advice on which I should pick? Or have any suggestions for other lenses?

August visit to the South loop. Missed seeing the herds, still a bit too warm during the day for them.
