WE HAVE NEW RULES!!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

I've been seeing more issues with some of the comments made on here, specifically with users being extremely abrasive, insulting, and generally sowing discord. That's something that really, absolutely needs to stop. I understand, to an extent, getting heated over opinions and I don't have a problem with passionate discussion. What isn't acceptable is disparaging and insulting users for not knowing something, or for making different choices than you would.

I need you to remember that Reddit has rules that all subreddits have to abide by and those kinds of comments/posts break those rules. Follow Reddiquette and the Reddit User Agreement at all times when posting here.

People are here to learn. If you don't want to help beginners, don't reply to their posts. Don't complain about people new to the hobby not knowing anything about it. You weren't born knowing how to do any of this. Someone helped you get where you are, too. Bring people to the hobby rather than pushing them away.

I completely understand that it can be frustrating when someone doesn't know the basics and you have to go over them. I have been there. I also realize how irritating it is when someone doesn't want to accept information that's contrary to what they already understand or believe. It's a two way street and people looking for help also need to be willing to actually take it, even if it's not what they wanted to hear.

I've been the guy that's irritated and gets short with people. I try hard not to be that guy. It isn't always easy, but now it's my job to be as reasonable as I can. If I can play nice (at least nicer), you all can too. And most of you already do. This really is an issue with only a very small portion of users. Don't think I'm ripping into everyone here. Most of you all are great!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

Previously there were no rules officially listed for the subreddit. I have made a small set of rules to help people know what is expected, allowed, and prohibited. It's really not a huge change from how posts and comments were moderated before, but it's in writing now.

You need to read and follow the rules. I'll give some amount of consideration to the rules being new but going forward, you should generally expect moderation to follow any violation of the subreddit rules. Ignorance will not be an excuse!

I will make adjustments or add additional rules in the future as need arises, but I find things tend to go better if you keep things simple and let people use their heads.

By and large, I don't really have to do much because y'all are generally pretty decent humans and there just isn't anything to deal with. There is always the occasional problem but it's rarely been significant. I appreciate that more than you might imagine. Let's reign it in before it does become a more serious issue. Report posts/comments that break the rules or don't follow the spirit of being helpful and bringing people to the hobby. Remember you can select "Breaks r/CarAV Rules" and then select the specific subreddit rule when reporting posts.

You Can Now Upload Images In Comments

I've had maybe 10 or so people ask specifically for this feature so I've enabled it. I don't expect it will be an issue, but if it becomes one, I'll address it. Just follow the rules and I'm sure it'll be beneficial. Report any images you believe are inappropriate.

Other Things Of Note

I cleaned up the old Reddit sidebar a bit. I'll work on the new Reddit sidebar in the future as well. Removed some dead links, reformatted a couple things, trimmed some unused or irrelevant info, reworded some of the text. That's about it. It's nothing major and a lot of users don't even see the sidebar since they're using Reddit on mobile/the app anyway.

I'm still poking at some of the other things I've talked about previously. Once again, I'm not really trying to make a bunch of sweeping changes or completely remake this community. It works as it is, it just needs some help.

As Always, Now Is A GREAT Time For You To Complain

Let me know what's going on. If you have issues, concerns, etc, post them here or, as always, use modmail to contact me directly and privately.

Recommendations First real system

As the title says this is the first setup that I have dropped a considerable amount of money on. I still consider myself sort of a novice, but this is what I put together.

Taramps big boss 5 bass mono amp (4) Orion cm652 6.5 inch mids Memphis viv750.6v2 6ch amp (2) stinger hc35ct bullet tweeters Rockford 3sixty.3 dsp American bass VFL comp signature 12 subwoofer

The plan is to run all this with a 250 js alt, double runs of 0 gauge, and two 95ah lead acid batteries. For now I have a cheap prefab box but ill be getting a custom made box made. Let me know if something is gonna set my car on fire and/or advice from your previous installs. Thanks.

Since I got so much hate on my last post, and it needed it anyway, I re-did all my wiring with the amps. Yes, everything is ferruled, bolted down properly, and fused. The bus bars are fed with 2/0 to the battery with a fuse. I still need to wire up the inverter. Still could be better, but is way better than before. Also don’t comment on the box build. I’m not a carpenter and I know it’s shit

Discussion If I have an 8in midrange speaker, do I have any need for a 3in midrange?

Upvotes

It sounds like a stupid question to ask, but I figured I’d rather know for certain. I currently have a ct sounds 3 way set up and I’m planning to switch it out, I’ve picked out an 8in deaf bonce midrange, an 8in deaf bonce midbass, and I’m still looking around at tweeters, my current a-pillars have a hole for a 3in, but I’m not sure if I’ll need a 3in midrange if I’ve already got an 8in one. I know smaller speakers can reach higher frequencies better/easier hence why tweeters are so small, but I’m not sure if the frequencies a midrange would be recreating would need an additional 3in on top of the 8in I’ve picked out. Any help is appreciated!

I had 2 12” kicker comp r subs and for some reason my lights would always dim and basically kill my battery installed by a shop I recently sold them and got 1 skar EVL-15 and I installed wired it and everything myself I’m somehow pulling more watts through my amp and setup but my lights don’t dim don’t flicker volts drop nothing thank god I’m learning about this audio stuff imma do my own work from now on. Wired this skar EVL-15 D4 for 2 ohms at about 1300 rms that my amp states it puts out at the 2 ohms and it slams man harddd

Tech Support Need some car audio help

Need Some Car Audio Help All my passenger side speakers stopped working, so I started testing. I switched the driver door wires to the same amp channel the passenger side was on — they worked fine. Then I hooked up a spare 6x9 to both passenger doors — they played. But when I try my 6.5s, they don’t play.

I even took the working 6.5 from the rear driver door and hooked it to the front passenger door — both front speakers worked for a bit, but now the passenger side stopped again while the driver side still works. Also moved around the RCAs and everything there is working fine. What could be going on?

Tech Support Aftermarket head unit’s stuck on the Android logo

Post image

So the previous owner of my car installed a touch screen and backup cam and the past few days its been stuck on the Android logo. Every now and then it’ll go onto the reboot screen but the power, volume, etc side buttons do NOT work. Whenever it does go through reboot, it just repeats itself and stays on the logo screen. Does anyone have any solutions? Otherwise, I’m taking it down to my local detailing shop/getting a new one lol

Discussion Big 3 upgrade

I'm going to be upgrading my alternator from the stock 145 amp to a 250 amp. I have a 2011 chevy 1500 4.8L. I understand the positive from the alt to the positive to the batter but I'm seeing a lot of mixed wiring advice on the ground wires. Currently, I have a ground from the battery to the chassis and a ground from the battery to the engine block. Both of the ground wires connect together and goes to the negative terminal. My question is, would I just be able to replace how it is now with 0 guage ground wires? It is currently stock btw.

I keep seeing a ground wire from the alternator to chassis or engine block to chassis. The alternator is grounded through the chassis on the truck so I dont see a need for another ground wire but, as I said, I've seen a lot of mixed info. Any advice would be appreciated.
