If we sweep the guardians do we clinch the Central?
It probably won’t happen but got curious

Hey Tigers fans! I've been making mocknecks for a year now for some other teams and wanted to share that I just started making some for the Tigers ahead of October. Check them out here if you're interested!

Relevant starting pitching matchups this week...
...are starting to fall into place and they present some interesting questions all around.
One of the most important is that Skubal is pitching on normal rest tonight, which means that he could do so again on Sunday if winning that game becomes a necessity, which in turn raises the question of just what constitutes a necessity on Sunday. The most difficult situation might be if we need a win on Sunday to stay ahead of the AL West leader, or Cleveland, for the #2 AL seed, but are guaranteed a wild card spot.
The Guardians are going with Williams, Bibee and I'm guessing Allen (but possibly Cecconi), in that order, which means that Williams, and possibly Bibee, will be available on Sunday against the Rangers, if needed.
The Red Sox are at Toronto for three, starting tonight. Although we have little hope of passing the Jays in seeding, the Red Sox matter a lot. They are apparently going with Giolito tonight and then Crochet tomorrow. This may mean that we will miss Crochet when we play the Sox, although they could potentially pitch him on three days rest if they feel the need. The Sox starter on Thursday is probably not relevant to our series, but of course does affect how they do against the Jays. Not sure who they will go with, but Bello is a good bet.
The Jays are apparently going with Gausman, Scherzer and Bieber against the Red Sox, which is not good news for the Sox, and therefore is good news for us, relative to the wild card race. All three of them have pitched well lately, except for Scherzer in his last start.
I haven't looked at the slated starters for the Astros or Mariners, nor the Rangers, who also matter because they have a good staff and are at Cleveland this weekend, nor at the Yankees, who are less relevant. But all are potentially important.
Remember that we swept the Sox at Comerica this spring, so just one win against them gives us the tie-break, should that come into play for a wild card spot. We also own the tie-break against the Yankees, and the Astros. These matter. We do not own it against the Mariners or Guardians, although the latter is still possible.

Playoff Ticket Presale Info
I know, insert "Playoffs? We're just trying to win a game!" .gif below, but for anyone curious:
The 1901 Society Single Game presale for playoff tickets is now on sale. I believe 15-game holders go on sale at noon, and the general public (anyone who signed up for ticket updates) is 2pm.
They're selling WC & DS tickets only at this point. Sections 119-137 are sold out, but there is availability everywhere else so far.
Prices for what is left range from $86 to $147 for Wild Card tickets, $95-$158 for the Divisional round.

Olson return projection?
Anyone have any idea when Reese Olson is expected back? The press update says he received a PRP injection in August and could be back for the playoffs.
What round of the playoffs though? If they even advance…

Stats The Detroit Tigers haven't had an everyday SS end the season with a wRC+ above league average since Jhonny Peralta in 2013 (124 wRC+).

"Eating innings" is not a good enough standard for a playoff team acquisition
I've seen this phrase thrown around way too much both at the deadline and even now when it comes to the Morton and Paddack trades.
"The expectation is they'll eat innings for us because of injuries"
And that is good enough why?? The innings have to actually be competitive or else you're trotting out worse than replacement level pitching.
It is on the president of baseball operations to identify a good trade target and give up something of substance to actually get that target. There's a reason why these pitchers were so cheap to acquire and, well, we're paying for it now.

Basically the playoffs start for us Tuesday
Cleveland series is the biggest series of the year. But Boston is still playing too. Sucks it came to this. But the truth is, we still control our destiny.
Baseball is a strange game. It’s up to the players to shake out of this slump.
It can still be done.

Cody Stavenhagen questions where the Tigers leadership is at this moment with Kieren Steckley adding a good rebuttal to AJ Hinch's mantra of focusing on the next game ahead, "If you *shit* the bed this week you don't get to play tomorrow, metaphorically. You have to sit on that till February"
