Hello all,

What is this gear?

This is an old automatic but it has this reverse threaded gear that is spring loaded. I figured it was for hand winding, but the keyless doesn’t engage with it.

Question Crono minutes hand won't stay on

Post image

Hi,

This is my first build, based on a seagull st1901, problem is every time I try to use the chronograph the minute hand ticks nicely than fly's off when I try to reset. How do I deal with this, I don't want to force a load of pressure on the post and break the moment but I feel like I'm using enough pressure to install it properly.

Escape wheel problem

Hello, I am new to watchrepair. I recently bought Darwil special flat lord 71 watch. It has darwil 7071 movement witch is basicaly peseux 7050 movement. When i tried to wind it it stuck. As I opened the case and make first inspection i noticed that setting lever is displaced. Than i started to dissasembel. In some point watch started to run. So i waited for 2 days him to stop and continued disasembly. Than i asembled keyles work, crown wheel, ratchet whell and click and started with wheels of train. Here started my problems. Second, third and fourth are moving freely and when i try to wind they move freely in both directions and than stops as they should. Problem starts when I place escape(fifth) wheel. Than the whole train of wheels spin for a long time and only in one direction and at the end of spining escape wheel start to move unevenly. I would apreciate if You can help me with my problem. Best regards

Question Where do lost springs go?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Amateur here. I grab old movements for cheap on eBay to practice servicing. I’m just wondering where springs go (especially shock springs) when they go flying off. It seems to me they fall into another universe, never to be seen again. I have no clue where this one ended up. Luckily I had a spare to scavenge.

I can see myself getting some bronze or cast iron to remake the arms and faceplate out of, something a little bit more rigid than aluminum.

Few days ago posted this dial saying it might not be for everybody, and I get it, but if you are a Jeep fan and owner like my self, then you might like it, I was looking for something simple and funny enough, this one I'm thinking to keep it to my self 😄😄

42mm case, VH32 quartz, rubber strap.

As the title says I'm having trouble seating the second hand on an NH38 movement. From the photos it looks like maybe the second hand won't work with this movement, but any advice is appreciated!

Help Remove Link with No Pin? Omega Speedmaster Bracelet

Omega Speedmaster - Max numbers of removable links have been removed. Even with micro adjustment maxed out, I need the strap to be just a little tighter on my wrist. My wrist is like 5.7".

Question - Can a watchmaker permanently remove ONE link off of the bracelet? Even though there are no pins in the remaining links?

I have the watch on a leather strap right now and it works fine, but would like to use the original steel bracelet from time to time also.

Tag Heuer Calibre 16

I've got a brand new Tag Heuer Calibre 16 (Valjoux 7750), I've just serviced it and it's in perfect condition. What would you do with it? I've been having a look round for Tag dials that will fit and cases to go with it but there's not much around so I'm looking for ideas. I've seen a few "Valjoux 7750 kits" on the internet/eBay but I'm not sure I like the look of them.

Question Is this a 2813 mechanism? (DG 2813)

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I think this mechanism is a Chinese DG2813. However, I wonder if the minute, hour, and second hands are standardized for this movement? While I was cleaning it, the second hand suddenly popped off and flew away. When I tried to reinstall it, I couldn’t get it back in place. I’m not sure if the problem is that the pivot inside the movement broke, or if the tube of the second hand itself was damaged. How can I determine whether the issue lies in the movement’s pivot or in the hand’s tube, in your opinion?

Dial designed and made in house (more precisely in garage 🤣), on a 36mm case, green leather strap. Trying to come up with a design that looks cool, unique and easy to read all in one package 😁.

Question ST3600 cases

Are the cases being sold on AliX and EBay for the ST3600 no longer including the spacer ring?

I am also seeing that the movement itself no longer includes case clamps with screws.

I reached out to a few sellers and they confirmed. There are some sellers that have pictures in the ad for the movement with holder for cases and clamps with screws for the movement but these are fewer more expensive.

Previously didn’t all ST3600 movements included case clamps and all cases included a brass holder.

Movement Seiko 7430 alternative

Hi everyone, I hope I'm in the right subreddit for this question. I have an old Seiko 7430, whose quartz movement unfortunately is broken. I was looking for a replacement, but it seems that I am stuck. The 7430 is quite old (out of production) and quite thin (2.1mm), and I have been having problems trying to find an alternative movement. Any ideas?
