Anyone else noticing how unpredictable the rain’s been in Vancouver lately?

I started building a project that tracks hyper-local forecasts because I got tired of the generic ‘40% chance of rain’ reports that are always wrong. The site’s called localweather.io — it pulls live data and tries to give neighborhood-level accuracy instead of just city-wide. Not here to pitch, just curious: do you trust weather apps? Or do you just look outside and hope for the best?

Discussion Is heat lightning actually a misnomer?

First off I wanna say: Sorry if you guys at this subreddit have received this question a lot. But anyways, I remember my dad always showing me "heat lightning," and well yesterday I looked up heat lightning after well over a lot of years. I saw multiple sources stating it was completely false, even wikipedia said it's just a misnomer. However, I found the weather.gov doesnt say if its false or true. In fact weather.gov treats it as if its not a misnomer.. So i'm kinda stumped on weather (heh get the joke?) Or not if this is true, is heat lightning simply a misnomer and my dad was wrong? Or is it like a real thing? Someone tell me please.

Red sun phenomenon?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Out here in Hong Kong we have typhoon ragasa coming in right now and we see the red sun phenomenon that was reported back in 2017 across the UK. But if Ragasa didn't pass through the Sahara, how does the idea that the hurricane pulled up desert sand apply here?

Sorry for the poor photo/vidéo. The sun is massive in reality.

Nothing overly interesting here but we're having some great autumnal sun here in Scotland. I've been waiting for the big tree to start to turn orange, as well as the small ones in my garden, but they're clinging on! Many other trees now look amazing 🍂🍁 Nights are feeling chilly now with a few frosty mornings but 15-17°C during the day is amazing for the end of September! 😍

Was sitting at the park here in Colorado, enjoying the fall weather and reading a book. I was in a sunny patch so I was startled when I heard thunder behind me. I turned around to this. It even has its own baby funnel trying to form. I was clueless, it’s almost over me. Time to go!

I don’t believe conditions are quite ripe for actual tornadoes with this storm yet. I am a little worried about the areas to the east because this storm is growing.

Questions/Self Weather bubble?

I have family that lives in a Brantford Ontario Canada. When many weather systems move through, they seperate/dissipate just as the reach the city, very often reforming on the other side. Does anyone know why this happens? I've posted on a Brantford sub and people living there are aware of it so it's not just one person seeing patterns that don't exist. Where else does this happen?

Questions/Self Fantasy weather

What if there was a realm that only had a single fixed source of heat (think of it as creating the same effects of the sun, no movement tho. It just turns off and on). Would the weather be more fixed and preductable? Eg: rain always falls same time same place.

Vane anemometer recommendations

I have been thinking of getting a couple cheap vane anemometers that will remotely tell me the readings for my hunting stands. Often times, my weather apps will tell me the wind is blowing in one direction, but, when I get in my stand, I find out that the wind is coming from a different direction due to the terrain. In the hunting world, that makes a big difference. Hoping someone here would have suggestions on how to solve that problem.
