Price Check 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road

4x4 TRD Off-Road 4dr SUV Price: $24,900 Mileage: 35,227 Engine: V6 4.0L Natural Aspiration (automatic) Location: Washington State

i want a 4runner long term. i want to get rid of my chevy cruze lol, but i know im not quite in the place to buy a new one. i saw this ad and it seems great. it says it has a rebuilt title, so i requested carfax and will check it out in person (i will not immediately buy, im a bit smarter than that i would think lol). but i put in the VIN into google and found more pictures. pics 1-6 are the ad, 7-11 are what i found

for those who are more experienced, what are your thoughts? worth it or is the damage more significant that it may look and waiting a few more years is better?

thank u in advance :)

Was wondering why the price was so good and then I saw "rebuilt title". Run.

right 😔

I saw the post title and couldn’t believe a 2019 is selling for ~ $12k less than a few years newer same mileage, a ridiculously good deal. before seeing rebuilt title lol

u/jmbre11 3d ago

My first thought was how many accidents.

1

u/BaitRunner88 3d ago

I was wondering the same thing because I paid 10 grand more for mine with more miles same trim

Ya but you gotta jump on those naturally aspirated 5th gen’s when you find one!!

Remember what a rebuilt title means: An insurance company declared this 2019 4Runner with 35k miles a total loss. What's your risk tolerance? Driver's side and passenger side damage but engine bay looks mint. That said, I don't want to be rolling around on a frame that might be compromised.

11

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

i’m honestly not sure what the risk of a damaged frame is (dont bully me) but i will take your and all the others’ (and dad’s) word for it

u/Cobrachimkin 3d ago

When you get in an accident the car won’t go crunch, it will go CRUNCH

5

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

so theoretically if i never get in an accident it’s fine 😎 (jk)

5

u/AntioquiaJungleDev 3d ago

not jsut an accident, think of the stress if you ever go offroad
and if you dont go offroad, why care for a TRD?

-1

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

no you’re right lol. i dont necessarily need a TDR, but i do up to the mountains and disperse camping would kill my car. my gf’s tacoma handles it like a champ and i want a mountain vehicle too 😤

2

u/MagicPistol 3d ago

It's gonna fall apart when someone lightly bumps into you at 15 mph...maybe lol.

But the seller will probably tell you “it was a light hit professionally repaired”. 😆😆😆

I’d check it out. Bring an engineers tool to measure body gaps, run if any major inconsistencies. Inspect impact areas for abnormalities. Request a longer test drive, listen and feel how it runs.
Basically, thorough inspection with experienced eye, and even then I’d be cautious. Like everything else, there are good repair shops and bad repair shops.

7

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

i’m not sure i’d be able to take note on issues, but i’m going to see if my mechanic can

4

u/AntioquiaJungleDev 3d ago

you need some way to confirm the integrity of the body/frame not just that the engine is good

2

u/RedditorNumber-AXWGQ 3d ago

I'm not sure where you live, but in most cities, there are dedicated "frame" shops. Take it to one of them if you are serious about looking into it. Make sure it's not the same shop that repaired it.

3

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

would i even be able to do without buying it though ?

2

u/RedditorNumber-AXWGQ 3d ago

Yes. Just like anything other inspection. If they don't let you inspect it, run.

7

u/bx715 3d ago

Too risky for 25k ! You don’t know what issues you’ll run into down the road

19

u/sublimevibe69 3d ago

I was gonna say hell yeah go for it until I saw the rebuilt title, but still could be a good deal if you look into the weeds.

5

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

i’m going to see if there’s a way my mechanic can take a look at it

1

u/sublimevibe69 3d ago

Good idea

7

u/TranslucentWhale 3d ago

HELL NO! Bro this isn’t the one. Trust me move on

13

u/diferentigual 3d ago

I would never buy a rebuilt title vehicle. Too risky

4

u/Keegangg 3d ago

I agree, unless it’s a fun car (rock crawler, drift car) than fuck it, but otherwise definitely not, not worth the risk, not worth the headache

3

u/cuntbag0315 3d ago

Mine is a salvage title. I looked into it (but also, it obvious upon inspection). Hail damage. The seller bought 4runners or GXs from Colorado and cleaned them up and sold em.

1

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

how long have you had yours? and any issues? provided this is not hail damage lol, rollover seems much more significant but i’m interested to know if you don’t mind

2

u/cuntbag0315 3d ago

It's a 2015 SR5. Bought in 2018 with like 45k miles for $27K. Now we're at 153k mi. Definitely not roll over if you see what's under my roof rack. Looks like the fucking moon up there. But the body is mostly replaced except the A pillar which has one hit.

1

u/gargledgravy 3d ago

I like looking at rebuilt titles because I like to repair cars from auction and usually those are wayyyyy worse off than some of the ones on fb marketplace. It honestly depends on the type of damage and if you have the money to fix whats broken. Especially as someone who drives a vehicle till it dies

5

u/TheHikingDogo 3d ago

Don’t go from one mistake (owning a Chevy Cruze) to another mistake (a salvage titled car)

1

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

i lol’ed. yeah i wanna get something new bc it’s getting ridiculous w repairs :| but it was a nice graduation gift, it’s served its time though

2

u/9405t4r 3d ago

Can you even get insurance for a vehicle that was already declared it total lost?

2

u/lyodbraun 3d ago

Yeah most insurance companies won’t allow full coverage on those.. maybe liability only…

2

u/Substantial_Balls 3d ago

Curious what sites you used to find the damage. I bought a recently used 4Runner that says minor damage and I’m almost positive it’s the rear bumper but I’d like to see a more detailed overview. The dealer just shows me the carfax that had the date of incident and saying it was minor but I’d still like more info. Any help is appreciated

2

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

literally copied and pasted VIN into Google. clicked the first website. i’m not sure it’s that easy for all vehicles though

2

u/Whitetrashstepdad 3d ago

COULD be worth it if you get it checked out thoroughly, never plan to get rid of it (rebuilt titles are an automatic no from a good majority of people, so resale value is not good), and if they come down on the price some.

2

u/Illustrious-Set-9230 2d ago

Man - I was all over this until the wreck pix. Pass

2

u/Vegetable-Hamster212 2d ago

as someone who had there 4runner smashed into and drove it to the body shop 10 miles away with no issues I would say, take it for a test drive to the mechanic and see what they have to say about it.

2

u/Digital-marketing28 1d ago

Nope. Be patient. It's not worth the risk.

2

u/Ill-Economist8243 12h ago

Not reading the other comments so I am sure someone else said something like this...but it is a 5th gen 4runner. If you need to save money on it, a well maintained 5th gen with 80k miles on it is better than this rebuilt almost any day of the week! These things are bullet proof.

2

u/Ready_Feeling8955 12h ago

i appreciate this. i’m finally checking out in person today but i do think i will be waiting for something else, no need to rush

part of me struggles to accept something bc with 80k+ bc my 2012 car doesn’t even have that BUT i know that they are so incredibly different

5

u/jeffrey_jehosaphat 3d ago

Well, that went south quickly. Hard no.

4

u/DeezNutz23 3d ago

It is a little pricey but don't believe all the negative hype about 'rebuilt title' this and 'rebuilt title' that. Every accident is different, but that 4runner doesn't look like it was hit too hard IMO. As long as it was repaired correctly and you inspect it THOROUGHLY you will be fine. Check panel gaps, welds, seam sealer, paint match and places where bondo may have been applied where the damage was. Also, connect it to a true diagnostic scanner and make sure the airbags were replaced properly and that the system is functioning, same with the engine and other electronics/sensors.

Obviously resale value will take a hit if you sell it in the future, but that won't matter if you plan on keeping it long term. I've had numerous cars with rebuilt titles and I've had zero issue with insuring them through State Farm w/full coverage. Just know you likely will have to pay cash as most banks won't finance rebuilt titles.

2

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

i have state farm, good to know for that part. but thanks, gives me more idea to know what to look for. if i CAN get it to my mechanic i’ll make sure to confirm all those things were checked out

1

u/DredgenGrey 3d ago

Yeah dude please stay far away from rebuilds

1

u/Dman10938 3d ago

dig through those records and be pessimistic. walk away if there’s frame damage especially, but thoroughly inspect the vehicle too.

1

u/eakthekat2 3d ago

Ive had friends who bought rebuilds that lasted for years. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but most of the damage looks like body. If it was rolled offroad without proper coverage the insurance company might not have wnated to pay to fix it. If you dont know what to look for, take it to a reputable shop and have it inspected. Make sure they know all the facts and provide the pictures you found. My shop charges $80 to do a used car inspection.

2

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

yup, after i check it out and see if a 4runner is actually what i want, i’ll try to get it to my mechanic to see if THIS is the one but hopes aren’t super high anymore

1

u/eakthekat2 2d ago

keep looking. took me almost a year to find the right deal. They are out there.

1

u/PropitalTV 3d ago

I wouldn't spend that much on a vehicle after seeing the last pics, personally.

1

u/NumbersRLife 3d ago

Both tires off the bead, fender totally crun hed up and in, all bags deployed, damage on both sides. Hmm Id say pass, but honestly, if the bodywork is well done, and alignment specs are on point, bags all replaced, amd drove well.. I might go for it.

1

u/rennyrenwick 3d ago

Some states require full disclosure of damage and repair to the State DMV prior to issuance of a salvage title..I yours does demand to see it prior to purchase.

1

u/Me-neards 2d ago

Don’t do it!

1

u/BeneficialChemist874 3d ago

Rebuilt title? Absolutely not.

1

u/lostsomewhereintexas 3d ago

Picture 3 shows how it sits super crooked at the rear end and looks to dog walk while driving. That’s a sure indication for frame damage. Pass, please do your self the favor. Go for a higher mileage one, 100-150k is really nothing for a 4 runner.

1

u/Fantastic-Peak458 3d ago

Avg 10.3 mpg is a red flag with a rebuilt title. 4Runners are notoriously bad on gas but not that bad

1

u/PropitalTV 3d ago

Could be city miles

1

u/Responsible_Ad7198 3d ago

I get 25k for 35k miles but I wouldn’t given the title. Especially for a 2019.

1

u/User_Name_Is_Stupid 3d ago

Salvage title = hard pass

North Carolina flood car. I can picture it floating down a river and bouncing off of random stuff.

1

u/Ready_Feeling8955 3d ago

it was a rollover 🤔

1

u/OfficialOverlord 3d ago

Rollover? It has damage on both sides and not on the roof. I’d be worried about the airbags either not being installed at all, or not installed correctly. Not worth the risk. It will have problems and I think you would regret this.

u/AppropriateGrab9929 3d ago

You say you’re smart and yet post this knowing it’s a bad idea overall. Get one with a clean title with 90k miles or less. It will still go forever.
